Northwestern China has experienced dramatic climate change characterized by rapid warming since the 1980s with the warming trend substantially slowing after 2000. Qinghai spruce (Picea crassifolia Kom.), a key tree species in northwest China, has been predicted to be strongly coupled with climate change. However, how the trends in biomass growth change at different canopy positions under climate change and whether climate–growth responses vary with canopy position remain unclear. A total of 222 trees were sampled by a stand-total sampling strategy in the central Qilian Mountains. Trees were assigned to four canopy positions according to height and distance from neighbors: dominant, codominant, intermediate, and suppressed. Our results indicate that trees in dominant and codominant canopy positions dominate the decreasing trend in stand-level biomass from 1980 to 2000 and the increasing trend from 2000–2013, contributing 81.3 % and 86 %, respectively, whereas trees in the intermediate and suppressed canopy positions contributed less. This result was attributed to a more sensitive response of biomass growth in trees in dominant and codominant canopy positions to climate change. From 1980 to 2000, the stronger decreasing trend in biomass growth at dominant and codominant canopy positions is mostly accounted for by increasing temperature. A more pronounced water deficit might have restricted biomass growth more than that at the intermediate and suppressed canopy positions. However, from 2000 to 2013, drought stress was relieved and summer standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index became a leading factor, which promoted the recovery in biomass at dominant and codominant canopy positions. In a word, compared with intermediate and suppressed canopy trees, those in dominant and codominant positions are less resistant to drought, but dominant and codominant canopy position's biomass can recover more when drought stress is relieved. A more robust understanding of canopy-level growth response and resilience to climate change is crucial to fully understand forest growth dynamics under fluctuating climate conditions.  相似文献

papa is a parental pair allocation and simulator program. The allocation method is based on the likelihood of a parental pair producing the multilocus genotype found in the offspring being tested, which will be referred to as the breeding likelihood. Estimated level and structure of allele transmission errors in offspring are parameters fed into the allocation procedure. The embodied Monte‐Carlo simulator also allows modelling of many allocation conditions, including transmission error and the estimated proportion of missing parents. Simulations may be run prior to the collection of real parents in order to define the minimal set of loci that is necessary to reach a desired level of allocation success. Post‐collection simulations aim at statistically assessing the reliability of nonsimulated allocations. Simulations output values for several random variables.  相似文献

Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PA) have been identified in six species of Arctiidae reared on Senecio and Crotalaria. These include senecionine, seneciphylline, integerrimine, jacobine, jacozine, jacoline, jaconine and a metabolite (C15H25NO5) from Senecio , and monocrotaline, trichodesmine and crispatine from Crotalaria.
The all-red aberration of Tyria jacobaeae (var. conyi) contained much less of the metabolite than normal examples of this species. Female Spilosoma lutea reared on the same plants of S. jacobaea contained markedly more jacobine and jacoline than die males.
Host plant relationships and secondary plant substances are discussed. It is suggested that the Arctiid moths' own deterrent secretions, directed against vertebrate predators, pre-adapts them for feeding on foliage likewise protected against large herbivores by toxic secondary plant substances such as cardenolides and pyrrolizidine alkaloids. These latter substances are more toxic to vertebrate than to insect herbivores, and their dual function of deterrent and insect aphrodisiac puts a premium on their sequestration and storage once a species has achieved the initial steps, and occupied the plant niche concerned. It is further suggested that the polyphagous habits of the Arctiidae result in a more equitable distribution of die secondary plant substances within the Mullerian complex concerned, thus providing a generalized warning message for the potential vertebrate predator.  相似文献

Parasitic protozoa are unable to synthesise purines de novo and thus depend on the uptake of nucleosides and nucleobases across their plasma membrane through specific transporters. A number of nucleoside and nucleobase transporters from Trypanosoma brucei brucei and Leishmania major have recently been characterised and shown to belong to the equilibrative nucleoside transporter (ENT) family. A number of studies have demonstrated the functional importance of particular transmembrane segments (TMS) in nucleoside-specific ENT proteins. TbNBT1, one of only three bona fide nucleobase-selective members of the ENT family, has previously been shown to be a high-affinity transporter for purine nucleobases and guanosine. In this study, we use the Saccharomyces cerevisiae expression system to build a biochemical model of how TbNBT1 recognises nucleobases. We next performed random in vitro and site-directed mutagenesis to identify residues critical for TbNBT1 function. The identification of residues likely to contribute to permeant binding, when combined with a structural model of TbNBT1 obtained by homology threading, yield a tentative three-dimensional model of the transporter binding site that is consistent with the binding model emerging from the biochemical data. The model strongly suggests the involvement of TMS5, TMS7 and TMS8 in TbNBT1 function. This situation is very similar to that concerning transporters of the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), one of which was used as a template for the threading. This point raises the possibility that ENT and MFS carriers, despite being considered evolutionarily distinct, might in fact share similar topologies and substrate translocations pathways.  相似文献

Aim Assess the value of parsimony analysis of endemism as either an a priori (cladistic) and an a posteriori (phylogenetic) method of historical biogeography. Location World‐wide. Methods Parsimony analysis of endemicity (PAE) and Brooks parsimony analysis (BPA). Results Parsimony analysis of endemicity is capable of finding correct and unambiguous area relationships only under scenarios of vicariance in combination with non‐response to vicariance or extinction. An empirical comparison between PAE and BPA, using the poeciliid fish genera Heterandria and Xiphophorus, demonstrates that PAE fails to document much of the historical complexity in this relatively simple system. Main conclusions The a priori assumptions of PAE are far more restrictive than those made by other a priori methods, limiting its utility as a method of cladistic biogeography. The inability of PAE to detect perfect vicariance or biogeographical histories involving dispersal, renders it unsuitable as a method of phylogenetic biogeography.  相似文献

We investigated the site level relationships between fish condition and environmental variables in Sclater's barbel, Barbus sclateri, from semi-arid streams in the south-eastern Iberian Peninsula. These freshwater ecosystems are characterized by strong seasonal fluctuations in flow levels (droughts and floods) as a consequence of their irregular hydrological regime on both an annual and pluriannual scale. We analysed the relationships between 11 ecosystem variables [conductivity, oxygen concentration, water temperature, pH, seasonal water flow, dominant substrate, submerged vegetation, QBR (Riparian Ecosystems Quality Index), BMWP' (Spanish version of the Biological Monitoring Working Party), fish refuge index and fish density] and fish condition by comparing mass–length relationships of nine populations of Sclater's barbel located in five sub-basins with different environmental conditions. Fish condition differed between the populations studied and was mainly dependent on the ecological variables related with water flow and, consequently, the physical structure of the streams, which is directly related to substrate and fish refuge.  相似文献

Our understanding of fish feeding interactions at Tijuana Estuary was improved by incorporating estimates of spatial and temporal variability into diet analyses. We examined the stomach contents of 7 dominant species (n=579 total fish) collected between 1994 and 1999. General feeding patterns pooled over time produced a basic food web consisting of 3 major trophic levels: (1) primary consumers (Atherinops affinis, Mugil cephalus) that ingested substantial amounts of plant material and detritus; (2) benthic carnivores (Clevelandia ios, Hypsopsetta guttulata, Gillichthys mirabilis, and Fundulus parvipinnis) that ingested high numbers of calanoid copepods and exotic amphipods (Grandidierella japonica); and (3) piscivores (Paralichthys californicus and Leptocottus armatus) that often preyed on smaller gobiids. Similarity-based groupings of individual species' diets were identified using nonmetric multidimensional scaling to characterize their variability within and between species, and in space and time. This allowed us identify major dietary shifts and recognize events (i.e., modified prey abundance during 1997–98 El Ni no floods) that likely caused these shifts.  相似文献

稻属药稻复合体Oryza officinalis complex中有5个二倍体物种,涉及B、C和E3个染色体组,分布在亚洲、非洲和大洋洲。其中,O.australiensis是稻属中惟一含E染色体组的物种;O.punctata则是惟一含B染色体组的物种。虽然O.officinalis、O.rhizomatis和O.eichingeri都含C染色体组,但由于它们间断分布在亚洲和非洲,可能在稻属异源多倍体成种中发挥了不同作用。染色体组B、C和E之间,以及上述二倍体物种之间的系统发育关系及其在稻属多倍体物种形成  相似文献

测定了绒螯蟹类各物种的线粒体16SrDNA部分片段的序列,构建了NJ树、ML树和MP树。序列歧异数据比较和各系统发生树都支持新绒螯蟹属(Neoeriocheir)为一个独立的属。在3种系统发生树中,直额绒螯蟹(Eriocheir recta)都是绒螯蟹属(Eriocheir)所有其它成员的姐妹群,并且广东珠江1只直额绒螯蟹标本的16SrDNA部分序列与台湾产台湾绒螯蟹(Eriocheir formasa)的相应序列相同。这些结果不支持平绒螯蟹属(Platyeriocheir)是一个有效的属,并表明E.formosa是E.recta的同物异名。绒螯蟹属(Eriocheir)所有其它成员聚为一个单系的分支,支持中华绒螯蟹、合浦绒螯蟹与日本绒螯蟹属于同一个物种Eriocheir japonica。16SrDNA部分序列的比对表明,产于台湾的日本绒螯蟹的此段序列与合浦绒螯蟹的相同,产于崇明岛的和产于美国旧金山海湾的中华绒螯蟹的此段序列与中华绒螯蟹单元型B的序列相同。  相似文献
