Agronomic traits, photosynthetic pigments, gas exchange, and chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence parameters of red stem buckwheat
(Fagopyrum dibotrys Hara) mutants induced by γ-radiation were compared with green control at seedling stage. Plant height, number of first-class
branches, and rhizome biomass were inhibited significantly (p<0.01). Chl a, Chl b, and Chl a+b contents decreased with elevated dose of γ-rays, while increasing carotenoid content indicated that buckwheat was capable
of adjusting to the radiation damage. Decrease in net photosynthetic rate was the result of both stomatal and non-stomatal
limitations. Fluorescence parameters, such as F0, Fm, Fv/Fm, Fv/F0, ΦPS2, electron transport rate, and photochemical quenching declined significantly (p<0.01) as compared with control due to photoinhibition, while non-photochemical quenching increased to enhance thermal dissipation.
Lower parameters implied that leaf tissue was damaged significantly by high dose of γ-radiation and therefore leaf senescence

Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a reproductive/genetic technology which has become the subject of public and scholarly debate because it involves the evaluation and consequent selection (and implantation) or destruction of human embryos. This research investigates the way PGD is constituted in the Australian print news media. Foucauldian discourse analysis reveals that proponents draw on their direct knowledge and experience of PGD to support their claims. There is an epistemic divide between consumers and others claiming direct knowledge, and critics and others drawing on indirect or abstract understandings of PGD. This divide characterizes the discourses present in the data and is directly linked to changes in these over the period under analysis. 相似文献

To reveal the role of climate oscillations of the Quaternary in forming the contemporary plant diversity in the temperate Sino‐Japanese Floristic Region of mainland China, we assess the phylogeographical patterns of four Sagittaria species in the region using sequence data from plastid DNA non‐coding regions (psbA‐trnH, the rpl16 intron and trnC‐ycf6) and the internal transcribed spacers of nuclear ribosomal DNA (nrITS). Based on both datasets, the divergence time among the four studied species was estimated to fall in the Late Tertiary (plastid DNA: 7.1–13.7 Mya; ITS: 11.1–16.1 Mya). The ancestral distribution analyses revealed that regions with a great diversity in topography, climate and ecological conditions, e.g. the Hengduan Mountains, Central China and East China, were the areas where the endemics originated. Mismatch distribution analyses revealed that each species had experienced a range expansion in response to Quaternary climatic oscillations. Our findings contradict the hypothesis of Quaternary origins of the endemic Sagittaria spp.; we support the view that modern species in the Northern Hemisphere originated mostly during the Tertiary.
