The prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver (NAFLD) is rapidly increasing worldwide. When untreated, it may lead to complications such as liver cirrhosis or hepatocarcinoma. The diagnosis of NAFLD is usually obtained by ultrasonography, a technique that can underestimate its prevalence. For this reason, physicians aspire for an accurate, cost-effective, and noninvasive method to determine both the presence and the specific stage of the NAFLD. In this paper, we report an integrated approach for the quantitative estimation of the density of triglycerides in the liver based on the use of autofluorescence and reflectance signals generated by the abdomen of obese C57BL6/J mice. Singular value decomposition is applied to the generated spectra and its corresponding regression model provided a determination coefficient of 0.99 and a root mean square error of 240 mg/dl. This, in turn, enabled the quantitative imaging of triglycerides density in the livers of mice under in vivo conditions.  相似文献

The rapid development of the wearable electrocardiogram monitoring equipment increases the requirements for R peak detection in wearable devices. An improved method called ISC algorithm is proposed with high anti-interference ability for R peak detection in wearable devices based on a simple basic algorithm called SC algorithm. The proposed method is characterized by using the updated amplitude selection threshold, updated slope comparison threshold and RR interval judgement to reduce false positives and false negatives. For data from MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database, the positive predictivity P+ of ISC algorithm can reach 99.12%, and the sensitivity Se of ISC algorithm is more than 95%. For MIT-BIH Noise Stress Test Database, the accuracy of ISC algorithm for both sensitivity Se and positive predictivity P+ can exceed 94% under three common noise, baseline wander, muscle artifact, and electrode motion artifact, where the positive predictivity P+ of ISC algorithm is 44.46% higher than that of SC algorithm on average. For wearable devices in exercise, even under the exercise intensity of 7 km per hour, the average positive predictivity P+ of ISC algorithm is 99.32%, which is 60.93% higher than that of SC algorithm. The high anti-interference ability shows that ISC algorithm is suitable for R peak detection in wearable devices.  相似文献

The content of dermal beta‐carotene can be a good indicator showing the body health. Because, it is involved in production of vitamin A maintaining healthy skin and mucous membranes. Also, it reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases and its antioxidant capacity prevents the formation of cancerous cells. In this work, we use Raman spectroscopy and a low‐cost diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) to detect the dermal beta‐carotene spectra. We apply computational optical clearing (OC) method to in vivo evaluation the concentration of this chromophore. The results show that Raman spectroscopy is a good tool for in vitro detection of carotenoids but is not able to clearly discriminate the individual carotenoids in skin tissue in vivo. The results also show that using OC enhances the ability of low‐cost diffuse reflection spectroscopy for in vivo detection of dermal beta‐carotene in humans. This method can be used as a low‐cost and portable device to screening the concentration of chromophores such as melanin and carotenoid molecules for oncological studies.  相似文献

A previously developed inverse method was applied to in vivo normal‐hemispherical spectral reflectance measurements taken on the inner and outer forearm as well as the forehead of healthy white Caucasian and black African subjects. The inverse method was used to determine the thickness and melanin concentration in the epidermis, dermal blood volume fraction and oxygen saturation, and skin's spectral scattering coefficient. It was established that changes in melanin concentration due to racial difference and tanning, and differences in epidermal thickness and blood volume with anatomical location were detectable. The retrieved values were also consistent with independent measurements reported in the literature. Chlorobaculum (Cba) tepidum is a green sulfur bacterium that oxidizes sulfide, elemental sulfur, and thiosulfate for photosynthetic growth. As other anoxygenic green photosynthetic bacteria, Cba tepidum synthesizes bacteriochlorophylls for the assembly of a large light-harvesting antenna structure, the chlorosome. Chlorosomes are sac-like structures that are connected to the reaction centers in the cytoplasmic membrane through the BChl α-containing Fenna–Matthews–Olson protein. Most components of the photosynthetic machinery are known on a biophysical level, however, the structural integration of light harvesting with charge separation is still not fully understood. Despite over two decades of research, gaps in our understanding of cellular architecture exist. Here we present an in-depth analysis of the cellular architecture of the thermophilic photosynthetic green sulfur bacterium of Cba tepidum by cryo-electron tomography. We examined whole hydrated cells grown under different electron donor conditions. Our results reveal the distribution of chlorosomes in 3D in an unperturbed cell, connecting elements between chlorosomes and the cytoplasmic membrane and the distribution of reaction centers in the cytoplasmic membrane.  相似文献

Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common joint diseases worldwide. Unfortunately, clinical methods lack the ability to detect OA in the early stages. Timely detection of the knee joint degradation at the level of tissue changes can prevent its progressive damage. Here, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS) in the NIR range was used to obtain optical markers of the cartilage damage grades and to assess its mechanical properties. It was observed that the water content obtained by DRS strongly correlates with the cartilage thickness (R = .82) and viscoelastic relaxation time (R = .7). Moreover, the spectral parameters, including water content (OH-band), protein content (CH-band), and scattering parameters allowed for discrimination between the cartilage damage grades (10−4 < P ≤ 10−3). The developed approach may become a valuable addition to arthroscopy, helping to identify lesions at the microscopic level in the early stages of OA and complement the surgical analysis.  相似文献

The effect of chlorophyll fluoresence on the spectral light gradients within a model green leaf was examined under different light qualities (day-light, sunset, canopy) and different quantum efficiencies. Carrot psyllid, Trioza apicalis, is a serious pest of carrot in Northern Europe, as it can significantly damage young carrot seedlings in a period as short as 3 days. This study was conducted to investigate effects of carrot psyllid feeding at different plant growth stages on carrot yield and to assess changes in content of sugars, phenolics and related compounds in carrot roots resulting from the psyllid feeding. In addition, reflectance of carrot leaves was measured to assess the intensity of discolouration in damaged leaves. Results showed that carrot yield was significantly reduced by a 3‐day carrot psyllid feeding period when the seedlings were exposed to psyllids at 1‐ or 2‐leaf stage. However, at 4‐leaf stage feeding by one carrot psyllid did not reduce yield. Sucrose concentration in the damaged roots was significantly decreased, whereas concentrations of some phenolic compounds were significantly increased. The reflectance of leaves of damaged carrots differed significantly from those of undamaged control leaves. These observations indicate that carrot psyllid damage has potential to lower not only the carrot yield, but also the carrot crop quality. No phytoplasma was detected in the carrots exposed to psyllids, but recently, T. apicalis has been associated with ‘Candidatus Liberibacter solanacearum’. The role of carrot psyllid feeding and the psyllid‐associated bacterium in the damage formation are discussed.  相似文献
