The following compounds were isolated from heartwood of Liriodendron tulipifera: glaucine, dehydroglaucine, asimilobine, N-acetylnornuciferine, norushinsunine, liriodenine, O-methylatheroline, (+)-syringaresinol, (+)-syringaresinol dimethyl ether and syringaldehyde. The occurrence of 1-benzyltetrahydroisoquinoline alkaloids also has been indicated by mass spectroscopy. Some characteristic spectral properties of these aporphine alkaloids and their probable biosynthetic pathways are discussed.  相似文献

We analysed the publicly available expressed sequence tag (EST) collections for the genus Populus to examine whether evidence can be found for large-scale gene-duplication events in the evolutionary past of this genus. The ESTs were clustered into unigenes for each poplar species examined. Gene families were constructed for all proteins deduced from these unigenes, and K(S) dating was performed on all paralogs within a gene family. The fraction of paralogs was then plotted against the K(S) values, which resulted in a distribution reflecting the age of duplicated genes in poplar. Sufficient EST data were available for seven different poplar species spanning four of the six sections of the genus Populus. For all these species, there was evidence that a large-scale gene-duplication event had occurred. From our analysis it is clear that all poplar species have shared the same large-scale gene-duplication event, suggesting that this event must have occurred in the ancestor of poplar, or at least very early in the evolution of the Populus genus.  相似文献

Here we tested whether some leaf traits could be used as predictors for productivity in a range of Populus deltoides x P. nigra clones. These traits were assessed in 3-yr-old rooted cuttings from 29 clones growing in an open field trial, in a five randomized complete block design, under optimal irrigation. Variables were assigned to four groups describing productivity (above-ground biomass, total leaf area), leaf growth (total number of leaves increment rate), leaf structure (area of the largest leaf, specific leaf area, carbon and nitrogen contents), and carbon isotope discrimination in the leaves (Delta). High-yielding clones displayed larger total leaf area and individual leaf area, while no correlation could be detected between productivity and either leaf structure or Delta. By contrast, Delta was negatively correlated with number of leaves increment rate and leaf N content. Our study shows that there is a potential to improve water-use efficiency in poplar without necessarily reducing the overall productivity.  相似文献

Meristems are sites of undifferentiated cell division, which carry on developing into functional organs. Using the two-hybrid system with a poplar 14-3-3, we uncovered poplar NIMA-related kinase 1 (PNek1) as an interacting protein. PNek1 shows high homology to the mammalian NIMA-related kinases, which are thought to be involved in cell cycle progression. Using a synchronized poplar cell suspension, we observed an accumulation of PNek1 mRNA at the G1/S transition and throughout the G2-to-M progression. Moreover, PNek1-GFP fusion protein localized in the cytoplasm and in both the nuclear and nucleolar regions. Overexpression of PNek1-GFP in Arabidopsis caused morphological abnormalities in flower and siliques. Overall, these results suggest that PNek1 is involved in plant development.  相似文献

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Inevitable trade-offs in structure may be a basis for differentiation in plant strategies. Juvenile trees in different functional groups are characterized by specific suites of structural traits such as crown architecture and biomass distribution. The relationship between juvenile tree structure and function was tested to find out if it is robust among functionally and taxonomically similar species of the genus Shorea that coexist sympatrically in a tropical rain forest in Borneo. METHODS: The sapling structures of 18 species were compared for standardized dry masses of 5 and 30 g. Pairwise simple correlation and multiple correlation patterns among structural traits of juveniles (0.1-1.5 m in height) of 18 Shorea species were examined using Pearson's correlation and principal component analysis (PCA), respectively. The correlation was then tested between the PCA results and three indices of shade tolerance: the net photosynthetic rate, the wood density of mature trees and seed size. KEY RESULTS: The structural variation in saplings of the genus Shorea was as large as that found in sets of species with much more diverse origins. The PCA showed that both crown architecture and allocation to leaves are major sources of variation in the structures of the 18 species investigated. Of these two axes, allocation to leaves was significantly correlated with wood density and showed a limited correlation with photosynthetic rate, whereas crown architecture was significantly correlated to seed size. CONCLUSIONS: Overall, the results suggest that an allocation trade-off between leaves and other organs, which co-varied with wood density and to a certain extent with photosynthetic capacity, accounts for the difference in shade tolerance among congeneric, functionally similar species. In contrast, the relationship between the architecture and regeneration strategy differed from the pattern found between functional groups, and the function of crown architecture was ambiguous.  相似文献

It has been proposed that the stomatal response to humidity relies on sensing of the transpiration rate itself rather than relative humidity or the saturation deficit per se. We used independent measurements of stomatal conductance (gs), transpiration (E), and leaf-to-air vapour pressure difference (V) in a hybrid poplar canopy to evaluate relationships between gs and E and between gs and V. Relationships between E, V and total vapour phase conductance or crown conductance (gc) were also assessed. Conductance measurements were made on exposed and partially shaded branches over a wide range of incident solar radiation. In exposed branches, gs appeared to decline linearly with increasing E and increasing V at both high and low irradiance. However, in a partially shaded branch, a bimodal relationship between gs and E was observed in which gs continued to decrease after E had reached a maximum value and begun to decrease. The relationship between gs and V for this branch was linear. Plots of gc against E always yielded bimodal or somewhat variable relationships, whereas plots of gc against V were invariably linear. It was not possible to derive a unique relationship between conductance and E or V because prevailing radiation partially determined the operating range for conductance. Normalization of data by radiation served to linearize responses observed within the same day or type of day, but even after normalization, data collected on partly cloudy days could not be used to predict stomatal behaviour on clear days and vice versa. An additional unidentified factor was thus also involved in determining operating ranges of conductance on days with different overall radiation regimes. We suggest that the simplest mechanism to account for the observed humidity responses is stomatal sensing of the epidermal or cuticular transpiration rate rather than the bulk leaf or stomatal transpiration rate.  相似文献

 用黑色遮阴网遮光,研究了741杨嫩枝扦插苗的耐阴性。共设置全日照(对照)、全日照的24.5%、7.5%和2.5%等4种光量。研究了光强对叶生长、叶解剖构造、叶绿素含量、光-光合曲线、新梢生长和生物量等指标。结果表明,741杨是一种喜光树种,在全日照下生长,其生物量等多项指标都高于各种遮光处理。741杨对24.5%光量有较强的适应补偿能力,其单片叶面积、新梢生长率、叶绿素含量、叶柄长度等都超过对照,但生物量还是低于对照34.4%。7.5%光量处理已接近741杨的耐阴极限。741杨扦插苗不能长期在2.5%的光量下生活。  相似文献

Abstract: The sensitivity of hybrid poplar (Populus tremula × P. alba) to oxidative stress mediated by paraquat exposure was analysed with leaf discs from wild-type plants and plants expressing the bacterial cDNA of the enzymes of glutathione synthesis, namely gshI, encoding γ-glutamylcysteine synthetase (ECS), or gshII, encoding glutathione synthetase (GS), both in the cytosol. It was expected that leaf discs containing more than 2-fold elevated glutathione concentrations due to over-expression of ECS are less susceptible to paraquat exposure than wild-type plants and transformants over-expressing GS. However, neither over-expression of GS nor of ECS improved paraquat tolerance of the leaves. This result was surprising, because in wild-type plants reduced paraquat sensitivity of young compared with mature leaves coincided with ca. 30 % higher glutathione contents of the young leaves. Apparently, developmental changes in paraquat sensitivity of poplar leaves are controlled by factors different from glutathione contents. Feeding experiments with glutathione and its metabolic precursor γ-glutamylcysteine (EC) plus gly showed that glutathione can provide protection from paraquat-mediated photo-oxidative stress; but at least ca. 5-fold elevated glutathione levels are required for this effect in poplar leaves. Currently, such high glutathione levels have not been achieved by the application of plant molecular biology techniques. The significance of glutathione for the compensation of photo-oxidative stress is discussed.  相似文献
