Aim Peak marine taxonomic diversity has only rarely occurred at or near the equator during the Phanerozoic Eon, in contrast to the present‐day pattern. This fundamental difference is difficult to reconcile because the latitude at which peak diversity occurs for living marine taxa has not yet been explicitly determined at a broad taxonomic and spatial scale. Here, we attempt to determine this value in order to compare the contemporary and fossil patterns directly. Location Our data are global in coverage. Methods We used a literature compilation of 149 present‐day marine latitudinal diversity gradients. We summed the number of marine taxa that exhibited peak diversity within 10° latitudinal bins. In addition, we recorded locality data, general habitat (benthic/pelagic), and the taxonomic level of the study organisms. Results We found that peak diversity for most sampled marine taxa currently occurs between 10° and 20° N, even after correcting for a Northern Hemisphere sampling bias. Moreover, this peak position is a global phenomenon: it is found across habitats and higher taxa, within all sampled ocean basins, and on both sides of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. Benthic taxa, which dominate our data, exhibit one peak at 10°–20° N, while pelagic taxa exhibit a peak at 10°–20° N and an additional peak at 10°–20° S, producing a distinct trough at the equator. Main conclusions Our data indicate that peak marine diversity for many taxa is currently within 10°–20° N rather than at the equator, and that this is not likely to result from either undersampling at lower latitudes or the pattern being dominated by a particular taxon. Possible explanations may include a coincidence with the intertropical convergence zone, a mid‐domain effect, abundant shallow marine habitat, or high ocean temperatures at latitudes nearest the equator. Regardless of its exact cause, the position of peak diversity should be considered a fundamental feature of the latitudinal diversity gradient that must be accounted for within attempts to explain the latter’s existence.  相似文献

Abstract

The economic importance of ornamentals has been advancing significantly in many countries due to continuous international demand. Like other crops, ornamental plants are also affected by a number of pathogens and the phytoplasmas diseases are equally important group of pathogens which is responsible for damaging the different ornamental plant species and thereby affecting their market value. In the present investigation, total 24 symptomatic leaf samples of 8 ornamental plant species (C. roseus, R. rubiginosa, C. variegatum, Z. elegans, J. gendurusa, T. erecta, H. rosa sinensis, J. sambrac) were analyzed which were found positive in nested PCR assays with R16F2n/R16R2 primers. The phytoplasma associated with ornamental plant species collected from different districts of UP in the present investigation are belongs to 16Sr I, II, VI and XIV group.  相似文献

Orthologs are genes from different genomes that originate from a common ancestor gene by speciation event. They are most similar by the structure of encoded proteins and therefore should have a similar function. Here I apply the principle used for detection of structural orthology for a genome-wide analysis of gene expression. For this purpose, I determine the mutual similarity rank in all-by-all comparison of among-tissues expression patterns. The expression of most part of human–mouse orthologs in homologous tissues is poorly correlated (average mutual coexpression rank is only 4835 out of 18,092). Genes from evolutionarily labile gene families, which experience rapid turnover of family composition, are among those with the strongest expression change. However, the revealed phenomenon is not limited to them. There is no or very weak relationship between protein sequence divergence and mutual coexpression rank. Also, generally there is no relationship between the ratio of nonsynonymous to synonymous nucleotide substitutions and coexpression rank. This relationship is tangible only within evolutionarily labile gene families. These results indicate that despite of a similar biochemical function of orthologs reflected in the conserved protein sequence, the physiological (systemic) context of this function can be changed. Also, these results suggest that gene biochemical function and its physiological role in the organism can evolve independently.  相似文献

Although the number of phylotypes present in a microbial community may number in the hundreds or more, until recently, fluorescence in situ hybridization has been used to label, at most, only a handful of different phylotypes in a single sample. We recently developed a technique, CLASI-FISH for combinatorial labeling and spectral imaging – fluorescence in situ hybridization, to greatly expand the number of distinguishable taxa in a single FISH experiment. The CLASI technique involves labeling microbes of interest with combinations of probes coupled with spectral imaging to allow the use of fluorophores with highly overlapping excitation and emission spectra. Here, we present the basic principles and theory of CLASI-FISH along with some guidelines for performing CLASI-FISH experiments. We further include a protocol for creating fluorescence spectral reference standards, a vital component of successful CLASI-FISH.  相似文献

广东金山温泉沉积物中原核与真核微生物多样性初步分析   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
[目的]本研究旨在采用不同的PCR引物对广东省恩平市金山温泉的高温水底沉积物微生物多样性进行初步的分析.[方法]采用改进的玻璃珠法抽提温泉沉积物中环境基因组DNA,通过对用4对引物分别扩增得到的原核微生物16S rRNA基因和真核微生物ITS序列的分析,将所得到的数据与国际基因数据库GenBank进行相似性比较并构建系统发育树.[结果]研究发现原核类群G的 14个优势克隆中7个都属于蛭弧菌属(Bdellovibrio).与它们最相似的序列是从海洋中分离到的两个菌株 Bacteriovorax sp. NE1 (EF092445)和Bdellovibrio sp. JS5 (AF084859),相似性分别为96%和99%.原核类群X的4个序列主要属于蓝细菌类群,其中JS-X2与在美国黄石公园温泉发现的Uncultured Cyanobacterium (L35331)有95%的相似性,并且与已经全基因组测序的嗜热蓝细菌聚球藻Thermosynechococcus elongatus BP-1 (47118315)有89%的相似性.真核类群Z有三个类群,分别是Penicillium sp.,Lodderomyces sp.和Gloeotinia sp..其中大部分序列与青霉属相似性在88%~ 90%之间.[结论]所得到的结果显示金山温泉中的微生物多样性十分丰富.  相似文献

【目的】为了探索植物乳杆菌天然质粒系统进化关系和起源。【方法】本文利用复制起始蛋白(replication initiation protein,Rep)系统进化树、基因组共线性、基因组GC含量和宿主范围分析方法,对植物乳杆菌75个天然质粒的系统进化关系和起源进行了详细和多角度的分析。【结果】首先,Rep系统进化树和基因组共线性分析结果均表明,植物乳杆菌所有天然质粒可以划分为6个进化关系亲密的家族、2个进化形态特殊的杂合质粒和1个独立进化质粒pLP2140。杂合质粒pMRI5.2、pLP12-1分别由家族1-2和5-6质粒融合形成,因此植物乳杆菌质粒可能起源于7个祖先。其次,基因组共线性分析可以将6个家族质粒进一步划分为17个进化关系更近的亚家族类群,并清晰、有效地揭示类群内质粒之间的系统进化关系。最后,基因组GC含量和宿主范围分析为植物乳杆菌质粒的系统进化关系和起源提供了进一步的证据。【结论】因此上述研究可以准确、有效地揭示植物乳杆菌天然质粒的系统进化关系和起源,这对植物乳杆菌天然质粒系统进化和起源的了解和研究具有重要的参考价值。通过Rep系统进化树和基因组共线性两种分析方法优缺点的比较和组合,我们提出了一种更加有效的研究思路和分析方法,同时这种方法很可能适用于所有细菌天然质粒,因此对于天然质粒进化和起源研究具有普遍的方法学意义。  相似文献
