While there is a long‐history of biological invasions and their ecological impacts have been widely demonstrated across taxa and ecosystems, our knowledge on the temporal dynamic of these impacts remains extremely limited. Using a meta‐analytic approach, we investigated how the ecological impacts of non‐native brown trout (Salmo trutta), a model species with a 170‐year‐long and well‐documented history of intentional introductions across the globe, vary with time since introduction. We first observed significant negative ecological impacts immediately after the species introduction. Second, we found that the negative ecological impacts decrease with time since introduction and that the average ecological impacts become nonsignificant more than one century after introduction. This pattern was consistent across other ecological contexts (i.e., geographical location, levels of biological organization, and methodological approach). However, overall negative ecological impacts were more pronounced at the individual and population levels and in experimental studies. While the mechanisms leading to this decrease remain to be determined, our results indicate that rapid response of native organisms (e.g. adaptation, but also local extinction) may play an important role in this dynamic. Changes in native species traits and local extinction can have important conservation implications. Therefore, we argue that the decline of the negative ecological impacts over time should not be used as an argument to neglect the negative impacts of biological invasions.  相似文献

根据一个泥炭剖面高分辨率花粉资料序列,初步重建了科尔沁沙地麦里地区晚全新世的植被演化过程。在3100 a BP以前,该地以固定沙丘上生长的蒙古栎(Quercus mongolica Fisch.)等阔叶疏林为主;以后随着半固定沙丘和流动沙丘增多,蒿属(Artemisia L.)和藜科等草本植物逐渐增加,而固定沙丘上的阔叶树则趋于减少。在1000~660 a BP期间,麦里地区几乎所有沙丘植物都经历了繁盛生长,蒙古栎种群的扩大尤其显著。3100 a BP以来植被和沙丘的演化可能同人类活动影响有直接关系,而1000~660 a BP期间的植物繁盛则由生长季雨量增加引起。花粉统计分析还表明,在森林草原等生态过渡带,花粉浓度和花粉沉积率比花粉百分比更好地指示了植被演化过程。  相似文献

 Increments in the radii of Norway spruce (Picea abies Karst.) and Yezo spruce (Picea jezoensis Carr.) trees that revealed symptoms of a decline in growth were analyzed by dendrochronological methods in an attempt to correlate past reductions in growth with their main causes. The trees were growing at different sites near the industrial district of Tomakomai, Hokkaido. A skeleton plot method was used to construct a series of pointer years that revealed the number of trees with a clear reduction in growth or recovery from such a reduction. An analysis of “abrupt growth changes” demonstrated that at least two periods of growth reduction were common to a large number of Norway spruce trees. The reduction events were related to the records of industrial activity near the forest and meteorological data. The growth reduction in the 1970s coincided with the start of operation of certain local factories, and its extent was related to the distance from the industrial region. By contrast, a reduction in growth in 1984 was detected at all the Norway spruce sites and the extent was approximately the same at all sites. This phenomenon was related to extreme drought conditions. Growth of Yezo spruce trees was less sensitive to industrial activity and to drought than that of Norway spruce. Electrostatic interactions in proteins can be dissected experimentally by determining the pKa values of their constituent ionizable amino acids. To complement previous studies of the glutamic acid and histidine residues in Bacillus circulans xylanase (BCX), we have used NMR methods to measure the pKa s of the seven aspartic acids and the C-terminus of this protein. The pKa s of these carboxyls are all less than the corresponding values observed with random coil polypeptides, indicating that their ionization contributes favorably to the stability of the folded enzyme. In general, the aspartic acids with the most reduced pKa s are those with limited exposure to the solvent and a high degree of conservation among homologous xylanases. Most dramatically, Asp 83 and Asp 101 have pKa s < 2 and thus remain deprotonated in native BCX under all conditions examined. Asp 83 is completely buried, forming a strong salt bridge with Arg 136. In contrast, Asp 101 is located on the surface of the protein, stabilized in the deprotonated form by an extensive network of hydrogen bonds involving an internal water molecule and the neutral side-chain and main-chain atoms of Ser 100 and Thr 145. These data provide a complete experimental database for theoretical studies of the ionization behavior of BCX under acidic conditions.  相似文献

Adaptive responses to excess (supraoptimal) level of cobalt supplied to the growth medium were studied in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis PCC 6803. Growth of cells in the medium containing 10 M CoCl2 led to a large stimulation (50%) in O2-evolution and an overall increase (30%) in the photosynthetic electron transport rates. Analysis of variable Chl a fluorescence yield of PS II and immuno-detection of Photosystem II (PS II) reaction-center protein D1, showed a small increase (15–20%) in the number of PS II units in cobalt-grown cells. Cobalt-grown cells, therefore, had a slightly elevated PS II/PS I ratio compared to control.We observed alteration in the extent of energy distribution between the two photosystems in the eobalt grown cells. Energy was preferentially distributed in favour of PS II accompanied by a reduction in the extent of energy transfer from PS II to PS I in cobalt-grown cells. These cells also showed a smaller PS I absorption cross-section and a smaller size of intersystem electron pool than the control cells. Thus, our results suggest that supplementation of 10 M CoCl2, to the normal growth medium causes multiple changes involving small increase in PS II to PS I ratio, enhanced funneling of energy to PS II and an increase in PS I electron transport, decrease PS I cross section and reduction in intersystem pool size. Structural changes in theEscherichia coli ATP synthase (ECF1F0) occur as part of catalysis, cooperativity and energy coupling within the complex. The and subunits, two major components of the stalk that links the F1 and F0 parts, are intimately involved in conformational coupling that links catalytic site events in the F1 part with proton pumping through the membrane embedded F0 sector. Movements of the subunit have been observed by electron microscopy, and by cross-linking and fluorescence studies in which reagents are bound to Cys residues introduced at selected sites by mutagenesis. Conformational changes and shifts of the subunit related to changes in nucleotide occupancy of catalytic sites have been followed by similar approaches.  相似文献

The diel changes of the biochemical composition of particulate matter was studied in Villerest reservoir (located on the Loire river, near the city of Roanne, France) during July 92. Several biomass and metabolic indicators (proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, chlorophyll a and primary production) were assessed bihourly over 2 days.Since the P/C is largely recognized as a good integrator of the metabolic functions of the cells, we examined its distribution pattern concomitantly with aforementioned parameters. The results demonstrated enhanced P/C ratios clearly indicating that nutrients were sufficiently available for growth. In addition, this index showed a diel significant variation with levels higher in the night than in the day. Moreover, these results suggest that phytoplankton species during the night used the day-synthesized carbohydrates to insure the cell metabolic functioning.  相似文献

Several hydrolytic enzyme activities were detected in the wall of developing cells of Rubus truticosus in suspension culture. The corresponding substrates of the enzymes are mostly polysaccharide wall constituents, except for chitinase activity. The activities measured when the enzymes were in the free state or wall-bound showed the positive influence of the cell wall micro-environment. Changes in the activities during a cell culture cycle demonstrated that those enzymes acting on xyloglucans behaved differently from the others, and suggest that xyloglucans undergo modifications in vivo over a longer period of time during the exponential growth phase. The same activities were identified in the culture medium. Endo-1,4-β-d-glucanase activities which depolymerized car☐ymethylcellulose (CMC) and xyloglucans (XG) were assayed viscosimetrically. It was found that XG oligosaccharides exhibited an inhibitory effect on the depolymerization of xyloglucans but not on that of CMC. This suggests that true xyloglucanases are present in the culture of Rubus cells.  相似文献

Flash-induced absorbance changes were measured in the Chl-c-containing alga Pleurochloris meiringensis (Xanthophyceae) between 430 and 570 nm. In addition to the bands originating from redox changes of cytochromes, three major positive and tow negative transient bands were observed both 0.7 and 20 ms after the exciting flash. These transient bands peaking at 520, 480 and 451 nm and 497 and 465 nm, respectively, could be assigned to an almost homogeneous shift of the absorbance bands with maxima at 506, 473 and 444 nm, respectively. The shape of the absorbance transients elicited from PS I or PS II was identical, and the two photosystems contributed nearly equally to the absorbance changes. Furthermore, the decay transients were sensitive to the preillumination of the cells. These data strongly suggest that the absorbance transients originate from an electrochromic response of carotenoid molecules. The pigment species responsible for the 506 nm absorption band, probably heteroxanthin or diatoxanthin, transferred excitation energy to both photosystems as shown by the aid of 77 K fluorescence excitation spectra.Abbreviation LHC light-harvesting complex  相似文献
