Overabundance of woody plants in semiarid ecosystems can degrade understory herbaceous vegetation and often requires shrub reduction and seeding to recover ecosystem services. We used meta‐analysis techniques to assess the effects of fire and mechanical shrub reduction over two post‐treatment timeframes (1–4 and 5–10 years) on changes in cover and frequency of 15 seeded species at 63 restoration sites with high potential for recovery. Compared to mechanical treatments, fire resulted in greater increases in seeded species. Native shrubs did not increase, and forbs generally declined over time; however, large increases in perennial grasses were observed, suggesting that seeding efforts contributed to enhanced understory herbaceous conditions. We found greater increases in a few non‐native species than native species across all treatments, suggesting the possibility that interference among seeded species may have influenced results of this regional assessment. Differences among treatments and species were likely driven by seedbed conditions, which should be carefully considered in restoration planning. Site characteristics also dictated seeded species responses: while forbs showed greater increases in cover over the long term at higher elevation sites considered to be more resilient to disturbance, surprisingly, shrubs and grasses had greater increases in cover and frequency at lower elevation sites where resilience is typically much lower. Further research is needed to understand the causes of forb mortality over time, and to decipher how greater increases of non‐native relative to native seeded species will influence species diversity and successional trajectories of restoration sites.  相似文献

遵循“防源、控流、治汇”理念,以粤北南岭大宝山矿区作为风险源,以所在流域为研究区,分析研究区主要阻力因素,采用最小累积阻力模型建立区域生态阻力面;利用Jenks自然断点法,分析生态修复优先级,提出分区治理重点和对策。研究结果表明:研究区综合阻力系数处于9-32之间,各评价指标的阻力面空间分布格局相似,其阻力值呈现出东南部大,西北部小的空间格局;长期的矿业开采污染了流域生态环境,且距离矿区越近的区域生态修复的优先性越高。将研究区分为4个优先级区,各区修复优先性依次为Ⅰ区 > Ⅱ区 > Ⅲ区 > Ⅳ区。Ⅰ区重点在于治水,提高pH、降低重金属有效态含量和增加地表植被覆盖度。Ⅱ区重点在于河流治理与治土,确保污染减排,增强拦泥库的废水调节。Ⅲ区、Ⅳ区核心在治土,逐步改善土壤条件。研究结果为修复项目在时空尺度上落地和科学治理提供科学依据。  相似文献

For biodiversity, natural afforestation is generally more favorable than plantation-based afforestation, but the difference may be less important if both methods fail to provide habitats for sensitive old-forest species. Given that some conditions, such as substrates, can be actively restored in new forests, their effect on biodiversity should be separated from dispersal limitation. We asked whether, and to what extent, lichen and bryophyte vegetation is impoverished on old-forest substrates in non-intensively afforested lands of the twentieth century compared with similar substrates in managed long-term forestlands. We measured the diversity and abundance of all lichens and bryophytes as well as the cover of human-sensitive (hemerophobic) species on large deciduous trees, logs, snags, and windthrows on 30 random 2-km transects in a 900-km2 forest landscape in Estonia, hemiboreal Europe. Altogether, 235 species, including 39 hemerophobic species, were detected on 781 structural elements. New forests were not significantly worse than long-term forests in any of the cryptogam community characteristics, which was explained by the predominance of natural afforestation (many native tree species present), time for substrate development and cryptogam dispersal (most stands >40 years old), few cuttings in the new forests (only about 20% of stands thinned), and short distances to long-term forests (67% of substrates within 250 m). Under such conditions, afforested areas appeared to be as suitable as traditional managed forests both for developing multifunctional forestry and as starting points for habitat restoration for threatened species.  相似文献

Abstract Efficient and accurate vegetation sampling techniques are essential for the assessment of wetland restoration success. Remotely acquired data, used extensively in many locations, have not been widely used to monitor restored wetlands. We compared three different vegetation sampling techniques to determine the accuracy associated with each method when used to determine species composition and cover in restored Pacific coast wetlands dominated by Salicornia virginica (perennial pickleweed). Two ground‐based techniques, using quadrat and line intercept sampling, and a remote sensing technique, using low altitude, high resolution, color and color infrared photographs, were applied to estimate cover in three small restoration sites. The remote technique provided an accurate and efficient means of sampling vegetation cover, but individual species could not be identified, precluding estimates of species density and distribution. Aerial photography was determined to be an effective tool for vegetation monitoring of simple (i.e., single‐species) habitat types or when species identities are not important (e.g., when vegetation is developing on a new restoration site). The efficiency associated with these vegetation sampling techniques was dependent on the scale of the assessment, with aerial photography more efficient than ground‐based sampling methods for assessing large areas. However, the inability of aerial photography to identify individual species, especially mixed‐species stands common in southern California salt marshes, limits its usefulness for monitoring restoration success. A combination of aerial photography and ground‐based methods may be the most effective means of monitoring the success of large wetland restoration projects.  相似文献

Following removal of the invasive species Rhododendron ponticum, the native understorey plant community typically fails to reestablish itself. Potential explanations for this failure include (1) lack of an appropriate native seed source; (2) inability of seed to penetrate a dense bryophyte layer; and (3) persistence of chemical “legacy effects” in the soil. We established an experiment to test these competing hypotheses in an Atlantic oak woodland where R. ponticum had been removed. The following experimental treatments were applied singly and in combination: (1) addition of a native seed mix to test for seed limitation; (2) removal of the established ground vegetation at the start of the experiment (which principally consisted of bryophytes) to test for the impact of a barrier layer; (3) addition of activated carbon to test for chemical legacy effects in the soil; and (4) fertilization as an additional measure to promote the establishment of native vascular plants. Application of the native seed mix was revealed to be an effective way to increase the cover of native vascular plants and was particularly effective when applied after the removal of the bryophyte layer. The application of activated carbon and/or fertilizer, however, had no effect on the cover of native vegetation. We conclude that reports of R. ponticum exerting chemical legacy effects long after its removal may have been overstated and that seed limitation and inability to successfully establish in a dense bryophyte layer provided the strongest barriers to natural recolonization by the native plant community following R. ponticum removal.  相似文献

以我国东部草原露天矿区粘土为研究对象,采用盆栽试验方法,以粘土与表土和沙土混合物为培养基质,三叶草(Trifolium repens Linn)为供试植物,研究不同比例下三叶草生物量、养分吸收量、土壤理化和生物学性状的差异,为寻找最佳配比提供依据。结果表明:不同混合比例显著影响三叶草生物量,粘土+表土(1∶1、1∶2和1∶3)生物量最高(26.5—40.0 g/盆),平均为31.2 g/盆,粘土+沙土(1∶1、1∶2和1∶3)次之(14.9—20.3 g/盆),平均为18.9 g/盆,粘土、沙土和表土平均分别是9.0、5.4 g/盆和41.7 g/盆,同样地,粘土+表土混合基质上三叶草氮吸收量平均为1071 mg/盆,分别是粘土+沙土、粘土和沙土氮吸收量660、321 mg/盆和190 mg/盆的1.62、3.34倍和5.64倍,磷和钾吸收量具有相似变化规律,这与三叶草根直径、根长、根表面积和根尖数有显著关联性;粘土和表土与粘土和沙土混合基质的容重和最大持水量分别显著下降7.4%—21.5%和24.5%—71.8%,饱和入渗率、孔隙度和标准化平均重量直径分别显著增加26.9%—96.3%、45%—218%和34%—72%;全氮、有机质、速效磷、速效钾、饱和电导率显著增加23.0%—88.3%、25.1%—146%、44.0%—91.5%、70.3%—114.8%和3.5%—59.3%;磷酸酶、脲酶、蔗糖酶、硝酸还原酶和固氮酶活性显著提高45.5%—105%、65.2%—172.3%、160%—252%、53.4%—62.7%和197%—374%;真菌、细菌和放线菌数量增幅为119%—142%、93.5%—107%和83%—147%。相关性分析表明,生物量与土壤理化性状、酶活性和微生物数量呈显著或极显著正相关,表现为粘土+表土=表土粘土+沙土粘土沙土。因此,表土或沙土均能改良粘土性状,其中粘土和表土1∶2配比效果最优。  相似文献

在脆弱的生态环境改善和恢复过程中,植被恢复与重建扮演着重要的角色。黄土露天煤矿区生态环境极其脆弱,认识矿区损毁土地植被恢复与地形、土壤因子之间的作用规律对矿区土地复垦与生态恢复改善至关重要。为此,选择山西平朔安太堡露天煤矿南排土场对2条样带27个复垦样地的土壤、地形、植被参数进行了采集与测定,并应用单因素方差分析与CANOCO4.5软件的降趋势对应分析和冗余分析研究了地形与土壤因子对植被恢复的影响。结果表明:植被与土壤变量之间呈显著相关,与地形变量之间相关性不明显;坡度主要影响草本覆盖度,坡向与有机质和速效磷之间具有线性相关性;速效钾对植被的变化起着重要的作用;土壤容重与砾石含量对土壤养分含量具有明显的指示作用;有机质与全氮呈显著正相关,各土壤养分指标之间存在明显的相关关系。为了改善和恢复黄土区露天煤矿排土场脆弱的生态系统,应该考虑植被和土壤的联合演替。在当地的生态环境状况下土地复垦与生态恢复的关键是改善土壤状况和增加人工植被,同时加强对排土场人工和自然植被的保护。  相似文献

The present study, conducted near Newcastle, Australia, used a blocked analysis of variance experimental design to compare initial nutrient concentrations and decomposition rates of Avicennia marina (grey mangrove) grown on sand and rock blast furnace slag. There were no significant differences ( ANOVA ; P > 0.05) in mean initial nutrient concentrations of total C, N and P for plants grown on the sand and slag substrates. A litterbag technique was used to estimate decomposition rates. After 360 days of incubation, repeated measures analysis did not identify significant differences between the substrates for the interaction term ‘substrate × time’ or the term ‘substrate’ for percentage weight loss or for C, N and P remaining. Avicennia marina on both substrates had nutrient characteristics and decomposition rates comparable to those found in the literature. Results suggest that initial nutrient concentration and decomposition rates are not dramatically influenced by the presence of slag.  相似文献

20世纪80年代以来,生态恢复逐渐成为生态学和环境科学研究的热点领域。总结了近年来有关生态恢复的众多研究成果,认为生态建设是人类理性行为参与下积极的生态恢复与重建过程,它具有复杂性、针对性、动态性和不确定性特征,受地理环境地域分异的影响,其类型多种多样。从方案运筹的角度,提出了生态建设的共性原则,包括面向区域的问题导向原则、目标的科学性原则、参与的广泛性原则和科学监测与评价原则。生态建设是一个不断试验、学习和优化的过程。具体包括问题识别、方案设计、决策、实施、监测与评价以及方案调整等重要环节。公众参与对于生态建设是一种很好的知识、信息和资源输入渠道,对活化生态建设的管理运行机制,提高生态建设决策的科学性和有效性能够发挥重要作用。以这些理论分析为依据,对中国生态建设中存在的主要问题展开深入剖析,并提出建立科学评价机制是提高生态建设有效性的核心方略。  相似文献
