In the angelfish ( Pterophyllum scalare scalare ) numerous rodlet cells were found in the large post-orbital blood vessel caudal to the eye and in the surrounding extravascular space. Within the vessel the rodlet cells formed striking regular arrays, along the inner aspect of the wall. The rodlets within the cells were positive to PAS but negative to Sudan Black B, Masson's, and the Fuelgen stain. The capsule around the cells was negative for all these stains. These rodlet cells appeared to be traversing the vessel endothelium, and to be pushing the endothelium aside without damaging it. Some discharged their contents into the vessel, but we never observed the release of intact rodlets. The nuclei of rodlet cells in actual contact with the vessel were at the end of the cell more distant from the endothelial wall. Cell-to-cell adhesion structures or communications junctions between rodlet cells and the endothelium were not evident. A putative rodlet cell precursor in the extravascular space contained large electron-dense granules, and extended pseudopodia that contacted nearby rodlet cells. Based on their morphology, tissue distribution, and their behaviour, we conclude that the rodlet cell is an endogeneous teleost cell type, and possibly represents a form of matured granulocyte. 相似文献

Abstract: Our previous studies have characterized an endogenous lectin from human brain identified as galectin-1. A soluble ligand of galectin-1 was purified from human brain by affinity chromatography and preparative electrophoresis. The purified ligand (termed HBGp82, for human brain galectin-1-binding polypeptide of 82,000 daltons) has an apparent molecular mass of 82 kDa and is glycosylated by N -linked biantennary complex structures. HBGp82 was partially characterized by microsequencing of peptide fragments. Similar peptides were found in a heat shock of protein of 90,000 daltons, hsp90. However, comparison of apparent molecular weights and matrix-assisted laser desorption mass spectrometry clearly showed that HBGp82 differs to some degree from hsp90. 相似文献

Secondary metabolic-energy-generating systems generate a proton motive force (pmf) or a sodium ion motive force (smf) by a
process that involves the action of secondary transporters. The (electro)chemical gradient of the solute(s) is converted into
the electrochemical gradient of protons or sodium ions. The most straightforward systems are the excretion systems by which
a metabolic end product is excreted out of the cell in symport with protons or sodium ions (energy recycling). Similarly,
solutes that were accumulated and stored in the cell under conditions of abundant energy supply may be excreted again in symport
with protons when conditions become worse (energy storage). In fermentative bacteria, a proton motive force is generated by
fermentation of weak acids, such as malate and citrate. The two components of the pmf, the membrane potential and the pH gradient,
are generated in separate steps. The weak acid is taken up by a secondary transporter either in exchange with a fermentation
product (precursor/product exchange) or by a uniporter mechanism. In both cases, net negative charge is translocated into
the cell, thereby generating a membrane potential. Decarboxylation reactions in the metabolic breakdown of the weak acid consume
cytoplasmic protons, thereby generating a pH gradient across the membrane. In this review, several examples of these different

Two strains ofAspergillus niger were cultured in solid-state fermentation system on carob pods ground from 1.25 to 8 mm diam. A particle size of 2.5 mm gave the highest protein content of the final product (20%, w/w) and 52% of the total soluble carbohydrates were utilized. DNA fingerprinting of tadpoles from two different ‘one female-two male’ matings of the red-eyed treefrog, Agalychnis callidryas, revealed multiple paternity of offspring. Offspring were assigned paternity based on bands shared with the putative father, but not shared between putative fathers or with the mother. Paternity was split 44/56% and 36/64% in two matings. These results do not support a hypothesis of sperm priority in access to unfertilized eggs by primary males. Multiple paternity may be commonplace in species of anurans with matings by multiple males. 相似文献

Four c-type cytochromes were purified by several procedures including chromatography on DEAE-Sepharose CL-6B, Phenyl-Sepharose CL-4B and Sephadex G-75, G-100 and G-200 and chromatofocusing. Cytochrome c-551 had a pI value of 5.2 and an Mr of 260 000 consisting of six non-covalently bound polypeptides each with an Mr of 43 000, and contained four to five haems. Cytochrome c-552.5 had a pI value of 4.8 and an Mr of 56 000 consisting of two polypeptides with the same Mr 29 000, and contained two haems. Cytochromes c-551 and c-552.5 were reduced by ascorbate to about 70 and 60% of the fully dithionite-reduced values, respectively, and both were essential components in the thiosulphate-oxidizing multi-enzyme system (other components of the system were ‘enzyme A’, ‘enzyme B’ and sulphite: cytochrome c oxidoreductase). These two cytochromes functioned as electron carriers and effectors in the oxidation of thiosulphate. Some evidence suggested that cytochrome c-551 might be a specialized electron transfer component for sulphonate-sulphur oxidation. Both cytochromes could be reduced by thiosulphate in the presence of enzymes A and B. Cytochrome c-550 (basic) and cytochrome c-550 (acidic) were small proteins with Mr 15 000 and 14 000 and pI values of over 8 and 5, respectively. Their physiological role is uncertain. 相似文献

Short-term variations in the relative catch in each of two or three interacting pheromone traps for the pea moth,Cydia nigricana (F.), were investigated for traps aligned along the wind. The proportional catch in each trap varied widely, although the mean values accorded with previous estimates. Over consecutive short intervals during a single trapping period the proportion caught in the centre trap of a three-trap line was constant. The proportion caught in the upwind trap of two-and three-trap lines showed trends in time. These trends differed between trapping periods, but two lines of traps operated simultaneously gave similar results to each other. It is suggested that these results, which are predicted by a model based on various components of moth orientation behaviour, are caused by changes in systematic behavioural processes, not random effects. Possible mechanisms are discussed.

Résumé Des données antérieures concernant les interactions entre des pièges à phéromone alignés le long du vent ont été utilisées pour déduire les caractéristiques du comportement d'orientation deC. nigricana. Ces données ont été introduites dans un modèle de simulation quantitative qui prédisait que quand les captures totales sur une ligne ont été regroupées sur une période globale de piégage, la proportion capturée dans chaque piège devrait aussi avoir des valeurs moyennes semblables, mais varie plus largement que précédemment indiqué. Les simulations concernant des intervalles consécutifs beaucoup plus courts pendant la même période de piégage ont suggéré une forme spécifique de cette variation.Cette note signale des variations à court terme dans la proportion capturée au piège qui confirment ces prédictions. Nous montrons que sur des intervalles consécutifs brefs pendant une simple période de piégage, la proportion capturée dans le piège central d'une ligne de 3 pièges est contstante, bien que sa valeur change suivant les périodes de piégage. La proportion capturée dans le piège face au vent de 2 ou 3 lignes de pièges suit cette tendance dans le temps, ce qui est généralement bien représenté avec des courbes simples. Ces tendances changent suivant les périodes de piégage, mais des lignes de pièges fonctionnant simultanément fournissaient des résultats similaires. On suggère que ces résultats sont dus à des changements dans des processus comportementaux systématiques et non à des effects aléatoires. Les mécanismes possibles sont discutés.相似文献

Summary The permeability of fenestrated capillaries in the mouse pineal gland to proteins and peptides was demonstrated by means of ultrastructural tracers. Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) and microperoxidase (MP) were injected intravenously and allowed to circulate for approximately 30 s, 1 min, 5 min, 1 or 2h. The tissue was then fixed by vascular perfusion or by immersion with aldehydes. In all experiments a pronounced extravasation of HRP and MP occurred. Transendothelial vesicular transport seemed to have occurred across the fenestrated capillaries. The most pronounced tracer labeling of vesicles was found after 1 min of MP- or HRP-circulation. The vesicles were uncoated and more than 70 % of the HRP-and MP-containing vesicles exhibited diameters between 50 and 110 nm. Furthermore, three other transcapillary pathways taken by the tracers are suggested: 1) via intercellular junctions, 2) through fenestrae and 3) via channels formed by fusion of vesicles with the luminal and abluminal cell membranes. Based on these results, it is assumed that the capillaries in the mouse pineal gland are also permeable to peptides synthesized and secreted by the pineal gland.Part of this study was presented at the EMCELL-76 meeting, Copenhagen, 1976 相似文献
