Headwater streams are key sites of nutrient and organic matter processing and retention, but little is known about temporal
variability in gross primary production (GPP) and ecosystem respiration (ER) rates as a result of the short duration of most
metabolism measurements in lotic ecosystems. We examined temporal variability and controls on ecosystem metabolism by measuring
daily rates continuously for 2 years in Walker Branch, a first-order deciduous forest stream. Four important scales of temporal
variability in ecosystem metabolism rates were identified: (1) seasonal, (2) day-to-day, (3) episodic (storm-related), and
(4) inter-annual. Seasonal patterns were largely controlled by the leaf phenology and productivity of the deciduous riparian
forest. Walker Branch was strongly net heterotrophic throughout the year with the exception of the open-canopy spring when
GPP and ER rates were co-equal. Day-to-day variability in weather conditions influenced light reaching the streambed, resulting
in high day-to-day variability in GPP particularly during spring (daily light levels explained 84% of the variance in daily
GPP in April). Episodic storms depressed GPP for several days in spring, but increased GPP in autumn by removing leaves shading
the streambed. Storms depressed ER initially, but then stimulated ER to 2–3 times pre-storm levels for several days. Walker
Branch was strongly net heterotrophic in both years of the study, with annual GPP being similar (488 and 519 g O2 m−2 y−1 or 183 and 195 g C m−2 y−1) but annual ER being higher in 2004 than 2005 (−1,645 vs. −1,292 g O2 m−2 y−1 or −617 and −485 g C m−2 y−1). Inter-annual variability in ecosystem metabolism (assessed by comparing 2004 and 2005 rates with previous measurements)
was the result of the storm frequency and timing and the size of the spring macroalgal bloom. Changes in local climate can
have substantial impacts on stream ecosystem metabolism rates and ultimately influence the carbon source and sink properties

基于4月底到9月底东北地区玉米农田土壤呼吸作用全生长季的观测,阐明了土壤呼吸作用的空间异质性特征,综合分析了水热因子、土壤性质、根系生物量及其测定位置对土壤呼吸作用空间异质性的影响,并对生长季中根系呼吸作用占土壤呼吸作用的比例进行了估算。结果表明,在植株尺度上,土壤呼吸作用存在着明显的空间异质性,较高的土壤呼吸速率通常出现在靠近玉米植株的地方。根系生物量的分布格局是影响土壤呼吸作用空间异质性的关键因素。在空间尺度上,土壤呼吸作用与根系生物量呈显著的线性关系,而土壤湿度、土壤有机质、全氮和碳氮比对土壤呼吸作用空间异质性的影响并不显著。通过建立土壤呼吸作用与玉米根系生物量的回归方程,对根系呼吸作用占土壤呼吸作用的比例进行了间接估算。玉米生长季中,根系呼吸作用占土壤呼吸作用的比例在43.1%~63.6%之间波动,均值为54.5%。 相似文献

A focused approach that exploits a single plant species, namely, Arabidopsis thaliana, as a means to understand how leaf cells differentiate and the factors that govern overall leaf morphogenesis has begun to generate a significant body of knowledge in this model plant. Although many studies have concentrated on specific cell types and factors that control their differentiation, some degree of consensus is starting to be reached. However, an understanding of specific mechanisms by which cells differentiate in relation to their position, that appears to be an overriding factor in this process, is not yet in place for cell types in the Arabidopsis leaf. It is clear that perturbations in cellular development within the leaf do not necessarily have a general effect on morphogenesis. Environmental factors, particularly light, have been known to affect leaf cell differentiation and expansion, and endogenous hormones also appear to play an important role, through mechanisms that are beginning to be uncovered. It is likely that continued identification of genes involved in leaf development and their regulation in relation to positional information or other cues will lead to a clearer understanding of the control of differentiation and morphogenesis in the Arabidopsis leaf. 相似文献

Severe growth abnormalities, including leaf yellowing, sprout proliferation and flower virescence and phyllody, were found on Brassica rapa subsp. pekinensis plants in Poland. The presence of phytoplasma in naturally infected plants was demonstrated by polymerase chain reaction assay employing phytoplasma universal P1/P7 followed by R16F2n/R16R2 primer pairs. The detected phytoplasma was identified using restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis (RFLP) of the 16S rRNA gene fragment with AluI, HhaI, MseI and RsaI endonucleases. After enzymatic digestion, all tested samples showed restriction pattern similar to that of ‘Candidatus phytoplasma asteris’. Nested PCR‐amplified products, obtained with primers R16F2n/R16R2, were sequenced. Sequences of the 16S rDNA gene fragment of analysed phytoplasma isolates were nearly identical. They revealed high nucleotide sequence identity (>98%) with corresponding sequences of other phytoplasma isolates from subgroup 16SrI‐B, and they were classified as members of ‘Candidatus phytoplasma asteris’. This is the first report of the natural occurrence of phytoplasma‐associated disease in plants of Chinese cabbage. 相似文献

Buddleja macrostachya (Buddlejaceae) is a widespread shrub native to the Sino-Himalayan mountains and beyond. It has been found to occur at two ploidy levels, hexaploid, 2n=6x=114 and dodecaploid, 2n=12x=228. To determine if morphological characters might be used as indicators of ploidy levels, we measured floral and fruit length, relative and absolute leaf size, trichome density on both leaf surfaces, and stomatal density and length in different populations of B. macrostachya. In general, flower and fruit length, absolute leaf size, and stomatal length increased with an increase at ploidy level (P<0.01), whereas adaxial cell and stomatal density decreased with an increase at ploidy level (P<0.01). We found no conspicuous differences in relative leaf size (P>0.05) in different populations. Other characters studied such as trichome type, cuticular membrane and ornamentation of stomata, cell and stomatal shape, and anticlinal wall pattern were quite constant in this species. Thus it appears that flower and fruit length, absolute leaf size, and stomatal frequency and length can be used to distinguish hexaploid from dodecaploid cytotypes either in the field or in herbarium specimens. 相似文献

通过设置自然光与遮阴(60%自然光)两种光环境, 观测了遮阴60天后疏叶骆驼刺(Alhagi sparsifolia)叶形态、光合生理参数和脯氨酸(Pro)含量的变化。结果表明: 与自然光照下的叶片相比, 遮阴叶的比叶面积显著增大(p < 0.01), 比叶干重、比叶鲜重和叶片厚度明显降低(p < 0.01); 叶绿素(a + b)和类胡萝卜素含量有所增加, 其中叶绿素a含量增加显著(p < 0.01); 光补偿点、光饱和点和暗呼吸速率降低, 表观量子效率提高, 最大净光合速率明显增大, 光能利用效率高于自然光叶; 强光照下遮阴叶的净光合速率明显降低, 易发生光合光抑制现象。上述结果说明: 遮阴处理后, 疏叶骆驼刺在叶形态和光合生理上表现出对遮阴弱光条件的一定程度的驯化适应。另外, 遮阴叶片Pro的大量积累, 说明Pro在疏叶骆驼刺驯化适应弱光环境中起着重要作用。遮蔽环境下疏叶骆驼刺植株死亡率明显偏高, 表明塔克拉玛干沙漠南缘荒漠区的疏叶骆驼刺属于专性阳生植物不耐阴品种。 相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the xylem anatomy and hydraulic characteristics of the mangrove Laguncularia racemosa grown under contrasting salinities. The study addressed the hypothesis that, at high salinity, water transport capacity may decrease in association with higher water use efficiency. Plants were grown in media to which 0, 15 and 30 NaCl was added. Vessel density and diameter were determined in transverse sections of stem and midrib leaves in terminal shoots, and hydraulic parameters were measured. In stems, the vessel density increased with salinity, while the anatomical diameter (d(a)) and hydraulic diameter (d(h)) declined; in leaves, these parameters remained unchanged with salinity. Huber value and hydraulic and specific conductivities decreased with salinity. Leaf blade resistance increased with salinity and represented the largest fraction of twig resistance. Xylem anatomy and leaf tissue of L. racemosa appeared to be modulated by salinity, which led to a coordinated decline in hydraulic properties as salinity increased. Therefore, these structural changes would reflect functional water use characteristics of leaves under salinity. 相似文献

Two upland rice varieties (IRAT109, IAPAR9) and one lowland rice variety (Zhenshan 97B) were planted in summer and treated with both normal (full water) and drought stress in the reproductive stage. Panicle water potential (PWP) and leaf water potential (LWP) were measured every 1.0-1.5 h over 24 h on sunny days. Both PWP and LWP of upland varieties started to decrease later, maintained a higher level and recovered more quickly than that of the lowland variety. The results show that PWP can be used as an indicator of plant water status based on the parallel daily changes, and the high correlation between PWP and LWP. Similar correlations were also observed between PWP, LWP and eight traits related to plant growth and grain yield formation. PWP seemed to be more effective for distinguishing the upland rice varieties with different drought-tolerant ability. Differences in PWP and LWP between upland and lowland rice varieties were also observed at noon even under normal water conditions, implying the incorporation of the drought-tolerant mechanism to improve the photosynthesis and yield of traditional paddy rice. 相似文献
