In addition to forward undulatory swimming, Gymnarchus niloticus can swim via undulations of the dorsal fin while the body axis remains straight; furthermore, it swims forward and backward in a similar way, which indicates that the undulation of the dorsal fin can simultaneously provide bidirectional propulsive and maneuvering forces with the help of the tail fin. A high-resolution Charge-Coupled Device (CCD) imaging camera system is used to record kinematics of steady swimming as well as maneuvering in G. niloticus. Based on experimental data, this paper discusses the kinematics (cruising speed, wave speed, cycle frequency, amplitude, lateral displacement) of forward as well as backward swimming and maneuvering. During forward swimming, the propulsive force is generated mainly by undulations of the dorsal fin while the body axis remains straight. The kinematic parameters (wave speed, wavelength, cycle frequency, amplitude) have statistically significant correlations with cruising speed. In addition, the yaw at the head is minimal during steady swimming. From experimental data, the maximal lateral displacement of head is not more than 1% of the body length, while the maximal lateral displacement of the whole body is not more than 5% of the body length. Another important feature is that G. niloticus swims backwards using an undulatory mechanism that resembles the forward undulatory swimming mechanism. In backward swimming, the increase of lateral displacement of the head is comparatively significant; the amplitude profiles of the propulsive wave along the dorsal fin are significantly different from those in forward swimming. When G. niloticus does fast maneuvering, its body is first bent into either a C shape or an S shape, then it is rapidly unwound in a travelling wave fashion. It rarely maneuvers without the help of the tail fin and body bending.  相似文献

Physiological studies have shown that the epidermal head and arm lines in cephalopods are a mechanoreceptive system that is similar to the fish and amphibian lateral lines (Budelmann BU, Bleckmann H. 1988. A lateral line analogue in cephalopods: Water waves generate microphonic potentials in the epidermal head lines of Sepia officinalis and Lolliguncula brevis. J. Comp. Physiol. A 164:1-5.); however, the biological significance of the epidermal lines remains unclear. To test whether cuttlefish show behavioural responses to local water movements, juvenile Sepia officinalis were exposed to local sinusoidal water movements of different frequencies (0.01-1000 Hz) produced by a vibrating sphere. Five behavioural responses were recorded: body pattern changing, moving, burrowing, orienting, and swimming. Cuttlefish responded to a wide range of frequencies (20-600 Hz), but not to all of the frequencies tested within that range. No habituation to repeated stimuli was seen. Results indicate that cuttlefish can detect local water movements (most likely with the epidermal head and arm lines) and are able to integrate that information into behavioural responses.  相似文献

Salix alba L. and Populus×euroamericana cv. Robusta cuttings were grown in 10 μM Cd(NO3)2 (direct treatment) or in Knop solution and afterwards in Cd(NO3)2 (indirect treatment). Cd impact on rooting of directly treated plants and its impact on normally formed roots and shoots of indirectly treated plants were studied. The cumulative length, number and biomass of willow roots, pigment and starch contents, leaf net photosynthetic rate and dry mass/leaf area ratio of willow leaves were positively influenced by indirect treatment. However, indirectly treated poplars were more sensitive to Cd than directly treated ones. Indirect treatment lowered root Cd uptake in willow, Cd accumulation in cuttings of both species and Cd accumulation in poplar shoots. Cd-caused structural changes were similar in both species and in both treatments. Root apices, rhizodermis and cortex were the most seriously damaged root parts. In directly treated willow, the structure of central cylinder (0.5 – 1 cm from apex) remained unchanged in contrast to indirectly treated plants. Formation of cambium close to the apex indicated shortening of root elongation zone of indirectly treated plants. Directly Cd-treated poplar roots exhibited unusual defence activity of root apical meristem and accumulation of darkly stained material around central cylinder. 运用扫描电镜与半薄切片技术,观察了玉米(Zea mays L.)的胚发育过程,得到以下认识:第一、关于原胚。玉米合子细胞分裂形成的原胚分为胚柄、胚基与胚体三部分。胚柄短小,寿命短暂。胚基具有生长带,纵向伸长长度大,胚基的上部参与形成胚根鞘,其余部分干缩后附在胚根鞘末端。第二、玉米胚的背腹极性及二型子叶。原胚初期胚体出现背腹极性,腹面的细胞小,细胞质稠密,液泡较少;背面的细胞较大,细胞质稠密度略低,液泡较多。原胚后期胚体分化为腹部与背部,腹部从腹面的中央突起,背部在腹部的周围(从左至右侧)及整个胚体背面。进入幼胚时期,腹部分化为胚芽鞘、生长锥、胚轴、胚根和胚根鞘(大部分)。期间,胚芽鞘原基和根原始细胞的分化都从胚体的中轴部位开始,然后向两侧和四周扩展,表现出胚体腹面形态的两侧对称性。原胚的背部形成盾片原基,盾片原基经历向左、右、上、下的迅速扩展和加厚的生长,将整个腹部所分化形成的构件藏于盾片的纵沟之中,最后盾片从纵沟的边缘长出的左、右侧鳞均向胚体的中轴线生长,完整显示出玉米胚腹面的两侧对称。玉米胚由腹部顶端形成胚芽鞘和生长锥的情况与水稻胚的胚芽鞘(顶生子叶)和生长锥的形成相同,玉米的胚芽鞘也是顶生子叶,盾片则是侧生子叶。玉米异型子叶的由来在于胚体的背腹极性。第三、玉米胚的真实形态结构及胚胎发育时期的划分。玉米胚是一个胚轴,其顶部是具胚芽鞘的胚芽,中部是具侧生子叶(盾片)的胚轴,下部是具胚根鞘的胚根。盾片从背面到腹面包住整个胚轴系统,在胚的腹面上可见从盾片边缘衍生的左、右侧鳞的边缘相迭,只在接缝线的上、下端留下蝌蚪状的小孔,使胚芽鞘和胚根鞘的末端稍露出。胚胎发育分为4个时期:1.原胚期——从合子细胞分裂开始至分化背部与腹部为止;2.腹部迅速分化期;3.盾片快速生长期;4.侧鳞生长、胚套形成期。第四、获取垂盲于胚腹面正中央纵切面是正确认识玉米胚形态的关键。  相似文献

The temperatures of flowers of Ipomoea pes‐caprae ssp. brasilensis, Ipomoea aquatica and Merremia borneensis in bright sunshine, were studied to determine the role of corollas and sepals in cooling the gynoecium. The corollas and sepals were prevented from transpiring by greasing, to investigate the extent of evaporative cooling. In the exposed natural habitats of these flowers the maximum temperatures of air and soil were high (32 and 42 °C, respectively) and corolla, sepal and gynoecium temperatures were often intermediate. Despite being almost astomatous, significant evaporative cooling was observed in the corolla. Between 20 and 80% of the energy absorbed by the corollas was dissipated as evaporation. The sepals were stomatous and their evaporative cooling was very important in reducing the temperature of the gynoecium. The temperatures of the non‐transpiring gynoecia and corollas were significantly higher than the temperatures of the normally transpiring corollas and gynoecia. Furthermore, the gynoecia temperatures were significantly higher with non‐transpiring corollas than with normally transpiring corollas, suggesting that the corollas alone play a role in maintaining the gynoecium within optimal temperatures levels. It was shown in an incubation experiment that temperatures exceeding 32 °C may damage the carpels, and temperatures exceeding 42 °C may damage sepals. Pollen grains were killed after 200 min of exposure to temperatures in the range 32 to 47 °C. It is concluded that the cooling mechanisms (evaporation and self‐shading) are critical for the reproductive success of these flowers in their natural environment.  相似文献

The arrest of DNA synthesis and termination of cell division in basal meristematic cells as well as the resumption of these processes as related to the initiation of lateral root primordia (LRP) were studied in tissues of Triticum aestivumroots incubated with 3H-thymidine. All cells of the stelar parenchyma and cortex as well as most endodermal and pericycle cells left the mitotic cycle and ceased proliferative activity at the basal end of the meristem and at the beginning of the elongation zone. Some endodermal and pericycle cells started DNA synthesis in the basal part of the meristem and completed it later on during their elongation, but they did not divide. In the cells of these tissues, DNA synthesis resumed above the elongation zone, the cells being located much closer to the root tip than the first newly dividing cells. Thus, the initiation of LRP started much closer to the root tip than it was previously believed judging from the distance of the first dividing pericycle cells from the root tip. DNA synthesizing and dividing cells first appeared in the stelar parenchyma, then, in the pericycle, and later, in the endodermis and cortex. It seems likely that a release from the inhibition of DNA synthesis allows the cells that completed mitotic cycle in the basal part of meristem in the G1phase to cease the proliferative arrest above the elongation zone and to continue their cycling. The location of the first DNA synthesizing and dividing cells in the stelar parenchyma and pericycle did not strictly correspond to the LRP initiation sites and proximity to the xylem or phloem poles. This indicates that LRP initiation results from the resumption of DNA synthesis in all pericycle and stelar parenchyma cells that retained the ability to synthesize DNA and occurs only in the pericycle sector situated between the two tracheal protoxylem strands, all cells of which terminated their mitotic cycles in the G1phase.  相似文献

Effects of different N/P ratios on several root parameters and on net P uptake were studied in winter wheat, Triticum aestivum cv. Starke II, grown in water culture. In the First experiment N/P ratios of (0/4, 2/3, 4/2, 6/1 and 8/0) were used, and plants were harvested at age 3, 5, 8, 11 and 14 days. In the second experiment N/P ratios of 6/1, 10/1, 15/1, 17/1, 20/1 and 25/1 were applied at two different N,P levels. Root length and number were determined using a digitizer connected to a computer. In the first experiment. the 6/1 N/P ratio gave the largest plants at day 14, and growth decreased with decreasing N/P ratio, The same pattern was found fur lateral root length and root number (seminal and lateral). In the second experiment the root weights decreased with increasing N/P ratio within each level. Lateral root number and overall length decreased with increasing N/P ratio at both levels as did the average lateral root length at the high N,P level. At the low N.P level, average lateral root length was about the same at all N/P ratios. Increasing the N/P ratio increased net uptake of P at the low N,P level, but decreased net P uptake at the high N,P level. Net P uptake increased with increasing P concentration in the roots and then decreased with further increase in P concentration. Net P uptake based on calculated root length [m (g root)−1] showed no significant deviation from weight-based uptake plots. The effect of N and P on root structure is discussed as well as the interaction of N and P in P uptake. The relevance of a proper basis for expressing root activity is stressed.  相似文献

建立一种靶点蛋白质快速定量检测方法。在原有侧向流动免疫层析技术的基础上,通过优化层析材料和纳米微球的均一性、改进检测区的检测方法,经逐点扫描技术,建立标准浓度曲线,以达到对临床靶点蛋白质的定量检测。以乳腺癌组织中的Her2表达为例,通过对已知浓度样品的检测,验证本技术方法的准确度大于96%。另外,以蛋白质免疫印迹作为组织中特定蛋白质检测金标准,分析临床肿瘤组织中Her2蛋白的含量,其准确率也达到95.5%,而免疫组织化学方法检测准确率仅为69.58%。新型免疫层析法检测结果与靶向治疗患者的愈后密切相关(P<0.01)。改进后的新型免疫层析方法能够准确地对临床靶点蛋白质进行定量检测,而且结合侧向流动技术的简单、快速和易用性,这种新型检测方法可以广泛应用于临床组织标本、血液标本和体液标本中靶点蛋白质的临场定量检测,在一定程度上可以替代免疫组化技术。  相似文献
