Five triterpene glycosides have been isolated from the leaves of Acanthopanax giraldii Harms (Araliaceae), which are elucidated as: hederagenin-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1→2) -α-L-arabinopyranoside ( Ⅰ ), hederagenin-28-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl- (1→4) -β -D-glu- copyranosyl-(1→6)-β -D-glucopyranosylester ( Ⅱ ), 3-O-α-L-arabinopyranosyl-hederagenin- 28-β -D-glucopyranosyl- ( 1→6 ) -β -D-glucopyranosylester ( Ⅲ ), 3-O-α-L-arabinopyranosyl- hederagenin-28-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl- ( 1→4 ) -β -D-glucopyranosyl- ( 1→6 ) -β -D-glucopyra-nosylester ( Ⅳ ) and 3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl- (1→2) -α-L-arabinopyranosyl-hederagenin-28-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-( 1→4 )-β -D-glucopyranosyl-( 1→6 )-β -D-glucopyranosylester ( Ⅴ ). Host plant chemical composition critically shapes the performance of insect herbivores feeding on them. Some insects have become specialized on plant secondary metabolites, and even use them to their own advantage such as defense against predators. However, infection by plant pathogens can seriously alter the interaction between herbivores and their host plants. We tested whether the effects of the plant secondary metabolites, iridoid glycosides (IGs), on the performance and immune response of an insect herbivore are modulated by a plant pathogen. We used the IG‐specialized Glanville fritillary butterfly Melitaea cinxia, its host plant Plantago lanceolata, and the naturally occurring plant pathogen, powdery mildew Podosphaera plantaginis, as model system. Pre‐diapause larvae were fed on P. lanceolata host plants selected to contain either high or low IGs, in the presence or absence of powdery mildew. Larval performance was measured by growth rate, survival until diapause, and by investment in immunity. We assessed immunity after a bacterial challenge in terms of phenoloxidase (PO) activity and the expression of seven pre‐selected insect immune genes (qPCR). We found that the beneficial effects of constitutive leaf IGs, that improved larval growth, were significantly reduced by mildew infection. Moreover, mildew presence downregulated one component of larval immune response (PO activity), suggesting a physiological cost of investment in immunity under suboptimal conditions. Yet, feeding on mildew‐infected leaves caused an upregulation of two immune genes, lysozyme and prophenoloxidase. Our findings indicate that a plant pathogen can significantly modulate the effects of secondary metabolites on the growth of an insect herbivore. Furthermore, we show that a plant pathogen can induce contrasting effects on insect immune function. We suspect that the activation of the immune system toward a plant pathogen infection may be maladaptive, but the actual infectivity on the larvae should be tested. 相似文献

Xylan has been used as a raw material in the synthesis of butyl, octyl and decyl glycosides. Mixtures of d-xylose-, l-arabinose- and d-glucose-based surfactants were obtained under smooth conditions with high yields in a one-pot process. The surface activities of octyl and decyl glycosides thus obtained have been studied and compared with that of pure alkyl d-xylosides. The results have confirmed that the new synthetic approach described in this paper is a potentially economical and efficient method for the preparation of environmentally friendly surfactants. 相似文献

Gleditsia triacanthos L. is a deciduous tree belonging to the family Fabaceae. It possesses important biological activities as anti-mutagenic, anticancer, cytotoxic and treating rheumatoid arthritis. The total ethanol extract (EtOHE) and successive extracts (petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and aqueous ethanol) were prepared from the leaves. Eight flavone glycosides and two flavone aglycones named vicenin-I (1), vitexin (2), isovitexin (3), orientin (4), isoorientin (5), luteolin-7-O-ß-glucopyranoside (6), luteolin-7-O-ß-galactopyranoside (7), apigenin-7-O-ß-glucopyranoside (8), luteolin (9) and apigenin (10) were isolated from the aqueous ethanol extract of G. triacanthos L. leaves. Potent cytotoxic activity of the EtOHE extract was observed against the liver (IC50 = 1.68 μg), breast (IC50 = 0.74 μg), cervix (IC50 = 1.28 μg), larynx (IC50 = 0.67 μg) and colon (IC50 = 2.50 μg) cancer cell lines. Cytotoxic activity of compounds 2, 4, 6 and 8 against, the liver, breast and colon cancer cell lines was also proved. Evaluation of the in-vivo antioxidant activity of the EtOHE and successive extracts revealed that the highest activity was exhibited by 100 mg of EtOHE (97.89% potency) as compared with vitamin E (100% potency). The Sulfolobus solfataricus β-glycosidase (Sβgly) is a thermostable and thermophilic glycosyl-hydrolase with broad substrate specificity. The enzyme hydrolizes β-D-gluco-, fuco-, and galactosides, and a large number of /Winked glycoside dimers and oligomers, linked β1-3, β1-4, and β1-6, It is able to hydrolize oligosaccharides with up to 5 glucose residues. Furthermore, it is also able to promote transglycosylation reactions. The corresponding gene has been cloned and overexpressed both in yeast and Escherichia coli. Based on sequence and functional data, the Sβgly has been assigned to the so-called BGA family of glycosyl-hydrolases, including β-glycosidases, β-galactosidases and phosho-β-galactosidases from mesophilic and thermophilic organisms of the three domains. The Sβgly has been crystallized and the resolution of its structure is in progress. Because of its special properties, the enzymes has considerable biotechnological potential. 相似文献

Gamma irradiation (1.0 kGy) of intact, newly harvested, mature muskmelon fruit (Cucumis melo L. var. reticulatus Naud.) appears to have an immediate deleterious effect, but also a long-term beneficial effect, on the integrity and function of the plasma membrane (PM) of hypodermal mesocarp tissue. The initial consequences of gamma irradiation included an increase in the free sterol:phospholipid ratio, resulting at least in part from deglycosylation of steryl glycosides, a decrease in the spinasterol:7-stigmastenol ratio in each of the PM steryl lipids (free sterols, steryl glycosides, and acylated steryl glycosides), and a decrease in H+-ATPase activity. Irradiation did not increase protein loss, suggesting that the decrease in H+-ATPase activity resulted from either direct inactivation of the enzyme or altered PM ordering caused by the steryl lipid modifications. The long-term beneficial effects of irradiation, observed following 10 days of commercial storage, included greater retention of total PM protein, a diminished decline in total PM phospholipids (PL) and in the PL:protein ratio, and maintenance of greater overall H+-ATPase activity (activity was the same as in controls on a per mg protein basis, but there was > 30% more protein in the PM of stored irradiated fruit). These results indicate that 1 kGy gamma irradiation administered prior to storage slowes the progression of two key parameters of senescence, PM protein loss and PL catabolism. 相似文献

Starting from peracetylated chloro- or bromo-glycosyl donors ofN-acetylneurmainic acid,N-acetylglucosamine, glucose and lactose, the correspondingp-formylphenyl glycosides were synthesized stereospecifically under phase transfer catalysed conditions at room temperature in yields of 38–67%. After Zemplén de-O-acetylation, the formyl groups were directly and chemoselectively coupled to the lysine residues of bovine serum albumin by reductive amination using sodium cyanoborohydride. The conjugation reactions were followed as a function of time and under a series of different molar ratios of the reactants to provide glycoconjugates of varying degree of antigenicities.
