This paper studies the global behaviors of a nonlinear autonomous neutral delay differential population model with impulsive perturbation. This model may be suitable for describing the dynamics of population with long larval and short adult phases. This paper studies a two-dimensional system that arises in plankton allelopathy involving discrete time delays and environmental
fluctuations. The environmental parameters are assumed to be perturbed by white noise characterized by a Gaussian distribution
with mean zero and unit spectral density. The dynamic behaviour of the stochastic system is studied and the fluctuations in
population are measured both analytically and numerically by computer simulation.

Implantational delay in rats and mice is experimentally induced by withdrawal of oestrogen and maintenance of progesterone. The oestrogen is normally removed by ovariectomy. We report here that the use of the antioestrogenic effect of the drug tamoxifen in combination with Depo‐Provera (which counteracts the oestrogenic effects of the tamoxifen) may be used to put the embryos both of rats and mice into delay of implantation. These delayed embryos retain their developmental potential and give rise to live born young when transferred to pseudopregnant recipient females. They are a good source of ES cells. Mol. Reprod. In people with intellectual disabilities, an enriched environment can stimulate the acquisition of motor skills and could partially repair neuronal impairment thanks to exploration and motor activity. A deficit in environmental and motor stimulation leads to low scores in intelligence tests and can cause serious motor skill problems. Although studies in humans do not give much evidence for explaining basic mechanisms of intellectual disability and for highlighting improvements due to enriched environmental stimulation, animal models have been valuable in the investigation of these conditions. Here, we discuss the role of environmental enrichment in four intellectual disabilities: Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), Down, Rett, and Fragile X syndromes. 相似文献

Ventral and dorsal streams are visual pathways deputed to transmit information from the photoreceptors of the retina to the lateral geniculate nucleus and then to the primary visual cortex (V1). Several studies investigated whether one pathway is more vulnerable than the other during development, and whether these streams develop at different rates. The results are still discordant. The aim of the present study was to understand the functionality of the dorsal and the ventral streams in two populations affected by different genetic disorders, Noonan syndrome (NS) and 22q11.2 deletion syndrome (22q11.2DS), and explore the possible genotype–phenotype relationships. ‘Form coherence’ abilities for the ventral stream and ‘motion coherence’ abilities for the dorsal stream were evaluated in 19 participants with NS and 20 participants with 22q11.2DS. Collected data were compared with 55 age‐matched controls. Participants with NS and 22q11.2DS did not differ in the form coherence task, and their performance was significantly lower than that of controls. However, in the motion coherence task, the group with NS and controls did not differ, and both obtained significantly higher scores than the group with 22q11.2DS. Our findings indicate that deficits in the dorsal stream are related to the specific genotype, and that in our syndromic groups the ventral stream is more vulnerable than the dorsal stream. 相似文献

We have previously reported that thermal vasodilation following warm-water bathing and low-temperature sauna bathing (LTSB) at 60 degrees C for 15 min improves the cardiac function in patients with congestive heart failure. Through a comparative before-and-after study, we studied the hemodynamic and clinical effects of single exposure to LTSB in cerebral palsy (CP) patients who usually suffer from chilled extremities and low cardiac output. The study population comprised 16 patients ranging between 19 and 53 years with severe motor and intellectual disabilities. Noninvasive methods were used to estimate the systemic and peripheral circulatory changes before and after LTSB. Using blood flow velocity analysis, the pulsatile and resistive indexes of the peripheral arteries of the patients' lower limbs were calculated. Following LTSB, the patients' deep body temperature increased significantly by 1 degrees C. Their heart rates increased and blood pressure decreased slightly. The total peripheral resistance decreased by 11%, and the cardiac output increased by 14%. There was significant improvement in the parameters that are indicative of the peripheral circulatory status, including the skin blood flow, blood flow velocity, pulsatile index, and resistive index. Numbness and chronic myalgia of the extremities decreased. There were no adverse side effects. Thus, it can be concluded that LTSB improves the peripheral circulation in CP patients. 相似文献

This paper addresses the robust filtering problem for a class of linear genetic regulatory networks (GRNs) with stochastic disturbances, parameter uncertainties and time delays. The parameter uncertainties are assumed to reside in a polytopic region, the stochastic disturbance is state-dependent described by a scalar Brownian motion, and the time-varying delays enter into both the translation process and the feedback regulation process. We aim to estimate the true concentrations of mRNA and protein by designing a linear filter such that, for all admissible time delays, stochastic disturbances as well as polytopic uncertainties, the augmented state estimation dynamics is exponentially mean square stable with an expected decay rate. A delay-dependent linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach is first developed to derive sufficient conditions that guarantee the exponential stability of the augmented dynamics, and then the filter gains are parameterized in terms of the solution to a set of LMIs. Note that LMIs can be easily solved by using standard software packages. A simulation example is exploited in order to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed design procedures. 相似文献

Spike-timing-dependent synaptic plasticity (STDP) is a simple and effective learning rule for sequence learning. However,
synapses being subject to STDP rules are readily influenced in noisy circumstances because synaptic conductances are modified
by pre- and postsynaptic spikes elicited within a few tens of milliseconds, regardless of whether those spikes convey information
or not. Noisy firing existing everywhere in the brain may induce irrelevant enhancement of synaptic connections through STDP
rules and would result in uncertain memory encoding and obscure memory patterns. We will here show that the LTD windows of
the STDP rules enable robust sequence learning amid background noise in cooperation with a large signal transmission delay
between neurons and a theta rhythm, using a network model of the entorhinal cortex layer II with entorhinal-hippocampal loop
connections. The important element of the present model for robust sequence learning amid background noise is the symmetric
STDP rule having LTD windows on both sides of the LTP window, in addition to the loop connections having a large signal transmission
delay and the theta rhythm pacing activities of stellate cells. Above all, the LTD window in the range of positive spike-timing
is important to prevent influences of noise with the progress of sequence learning. 相似文献
