The fungal concentration and flora in indoor and outdoor air in Yokohama, Japan were analyzed with a Reuter centrifugal air
sampler and dichloran 18% glycerol agar (DG18), and compared with the levels assessed with potato dextrose agar (PDA). The
number of fungal colony-forming units (CFU) in outdoor air was < 13–2750/m3; Cladosporium spp. predominated, followed by Alternaria spp. and Penicillium spp. The fungal concentration in outdoor air
peaked in September. The concentrations of fungi in outdoor air (n = 288) were significantly correlated with the maximum temperature
of the day, minimum temperature of the day, average temperature of the day, average velocity of wind of the day, average temperature
of the month, average relative humidity of the month and precipitation of the month. In indoor air, the fungal CFU was < 13–3750/m3. Cladosporium spp. predominated, followed by the xerophilic fungi such as the Aspergillus restrictus group, Wallemia sebi,
the A. glaucus group, and Penicillium spp. The fungal concentration in indoor air peaked in October. The concentrations of
fungi in indoor air (n = 288) were significantly correlated with the indoor temperature, indoor relative humidity and the
outdoor climatic factors mentioned above, except for the average velocity of wind of the day.

Tetrastichus gallerucae (Fonscolombe) was collected in southern France in 1985 and is being reared at the Division of Biological Control in Albany,
Ca for use against the elm leaf beetle (ELB),Xanthogaleruca luteola (Müller) in northern California. This egg parasitoid can be reared easily by keeping the beetle eggs on a moist substrate
to prevent desiccation and by inhibiting the growth of mold with air currents. A laboratory colony of ELB adults provides
a constant supply of fresh eggs for the parasitoids. In 1985 and 1986 over 80,000T. gallerucae were released at 17 sites.

ABSTRACT. Providing queenless colonies with five queen cells containing larvae or pupae diminished the number of queen cells and queen cell cups subsequently produced, but not as effectively as the provision of a mated laying queen. Immature queens were more effective than the mature queens in stimulating pollen collection, but were less effective in stimulating nectar collection. 相似文献
A comparative survey of airborne fungal spores in fiveindoor and five outdoor environments in Burdwan, WestBengal, India, was carried out for a period of twoyears using rotorod samplers and sedimentation plates(culture plate). A total of 29 spore types wereidentified, of which three were Phycomycetous (Mucor, Rhizopus, Syncephalastrum), one Ascomycetous(Chaetomium), one Basidiomycetous (Ganoderma) and the remainder were Fungi Imperfecti. The results revealed lowest count during summer andmaximum during the rainy season. Aspergilluswas quite abundant in all the environments surveyed. The predominance of Aspergillus, Curvularia,Alternaria, Cladosporium, Drechslera, Fusarium in allthe surveyed environments has been attributed to theirability to grow in various substrata. The occurrenceof Cladosporium in the winter months suggestthat it is sensitive to high temperature. Allspore types were common in both environmentsexcept Bispora, Cercospora, Papularia, Spegazzinia, Trichothecium in the outdoor sites. Acorrelation has been made between the volumetriccomposition of airspora and the incidence of seasonalmold allergy. 相似文献
The Callitrichidae (marmosets and tamarins) typically give birth to twins, and infant care is shared by all group members. The potential benefits to callitrichids of having helpers were investigated in a study of 21 captive cotton-top tamarin (Saguinus oedipus) infants, living in groups with two to 12 older members. Time carried and suckled and amount of food received from other family members were recorded for each infant during the first 12 weeks of life. The results showed that infants in larger groups were carried more and received more food than those in smaller groups. Twin infants in larger families were less likely to be on the same carrier. Singleton infants were carried more than twins but did not receive more food. On average, individual caretakers in larger groups carried less and shared less food with infants than those in smaller groups. When parental contributions to care were analyzed, no effects of group size were found on mothers' contributions to carrying or food sharing, but fathers in larger groups both carried infants less and shared less food with them. There appear to be several benefits of a communal rearing system to cotton-top tamarins. 1) Infants may receive more care in larger families, thus increasing their chances of survival. 2) The burden of care is spread over several animals, reducing the costs to a given individual. 3) The parents, particularly fathers, may benefit most from reducing the costs of investing in the present litter and increasing their ability to invest in future litters. 相似文献
A method for the stable long-termimmobilization of microalgal cultures wasdeveloped. Immobilized Klebsormidiumcultures were used in a biosensor systemfor air monitoring. The measurement ofbiosensor response was performed usingseveral parameters obtained from the PAMchlorophyll fluorescence technique. To testbiosensor response on toxic compoundsmethanol and formaldehyde, classified asvolatile organic compounds (VOC), were usedin concentrations relevant to human health. Our results showed that quantitativedetection of methanol vapour by thebiosensor is possible within minutes atconcentrations from 75 to 350 ppm.Additionally, due to reversibility of thebiosensor response signal and long-termstability, the biosensor was operationalfor 30 days with repeated exposure periodsto methanol vapour. We conclude that thealgal biosensor, in principle, is suitableto detect volatile toxic compounds such asmethanol and formaldehyde. 相似文献
The sterile insect technique (SIT) is currently used to control Mexican fruit fly Anastrepha ludens Loew (Diptera: Tephritidae). However, mass‐rearing can alter the quality of released males. If males that are mass‐reared have behaviours different from those of their wild counterparts, then this may diminish the effectiveness of SIT. Questions remain as to whether wild females may be able to detect the male condition before, during and/or after copulation with a mass‐reared male. In the present study, copula duration, female remating, female fecundity and fertility of both mass‐reared and wild A. ludens are evaluated. Marked differences are found between mass‐reared and wild females. Specifically, mating latency is longer and copula duration is shorter for wild females compared with mass‐reared females. Importantly, there are no significant differences in mating latency, copula duration or remating probability between wild females paired with either mass‐reared or wild males. All mass‐reared females remate, whereas only approximately half of the wild females remate after first mating with either a wild or mass‐reared male. Fecundity of wild females mated to either wild or mass‐reared males is approximately one‐third lower than that of mass‐reared females, confirming that mass‐reared females may have been selected for high fecundity and are adapted to laboratory conditions. Fertility of females that mate with a wild male for only 10 min is not significantly different from that achieved via a full‐length copulation. By contrast, females mating with mass‐reared males need copulation durations of at least 40 min to achieve fertility comparable with that achieved via a full‐length copulation. The findings of the present study have important implications for A. ludens controlled through SIT and broaden our understanding on the copulatory and post‐copulatory behaviours between wild females and mass‐reared males. 相似文献
