Diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) depend on clinical evaluation and there is a strong need for an objective tool as a biomarker. Our group has investigated brain oscillatory responses in a small group of AD subjects. We found that the de novo (untreated) AD group differs from both the cholinergically-treated AD group and aged-matched healthy controls in theta and delta responses over left frontal-central areas after cognitive stimulation. On the contrary, the difference observed in AD groups upon a sensory visual stimulation includes response increase over primary or secondary visual sensorial areas compared to controls. These findings imply at least two different neural networks, depending on type of stimulation (i.e. cognitive or sensory). The default mode defined as activity in resting state in AD seems to be affected electrophysiologically. Coherences are also very valuable in observing the group differences, especially when a cognitive stimulus is applied. In healthy controls, higher coherence values are elicited after a cognitive stimulus than after a sensory task. Our findings support the notion of disconnectivity of cortico-cortical connections in AD. The differences in comparison of oscillatory responses upon sensory and cognitive stimulations and their role as a biomarker in AD await further investigation in series with a greater number of subjects.  相似文献

Organic agriculture is increasing in popularity worldwide due to the rapidly growing market for organic products. In organic production, insects present a major pest challenge that negatively impacts crop health and yield. To successfully manage an organic farmland, an effective insect pest management program is key. In this review, we first describe the approaches currently used for pest management in organic farming. Next, we review natural plant defense mechanisms, especially those based on plant volatile organic compounds. Chemically complex, plant volatiles have multiple ecological roles in plant-insect interactions including attracting pollinators, acting as cues for foraging herbivores as well as functioning as direct defense, indirect defense, or interplant priming. Based on the ecological roles of plant volatiles, we then discuss in-depth how pest management may be improved through a variety of strategies including using resistant cultivars, polyculture, using beneficial microorganisms such as mycorrhizal fungi and endophytes, and using plant-derived pesticides, all of which are reviewed in the context of plant volatiles. Lastly, integration of these different strategies based on the trait of plant volatiles for a successful and sustainable pest management program in organic farming is discussed.  相似文献

Objectively diagnosing age‐related cognitive impairment (ACI), mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and early‐stage Alzheimer''s disease (AD) is a difficult task, as most cognitive impairment is clinically established via questionnaires, history, and physical examinations. A recent study has suggested that monitoring a miRNA triad, miR‐181a‐5p, miR‐146a‐5p, and miR‐148a‐3p can identify ACI and its progression to MCI and AD (Islam et al., EMBO Mol Med. 13: e14997, 2021). This commentary deliberates findings from this article, such as elevated levels of the miRNA triad in the brain impairing neural plasticity and cognitive function, the efficiency of measuring the miRNA triad in the circulating blood diagnosing MCI and AD, and the promise for improving cognitive function in MCI and AD by inhibiting this miRNA triad. Additional studies required prior to employing this miRNA triad in clinical practice are also discussed.  相似文献

Plants produce species-specific herbivore-induced plant volatiles (HIPVs) after damage. We tested the hypothesis that herbivore-specific HIPVs prime neighboring plants to induce defenses specific to the priming herbivore. Since Manduca sexta (specialist) and Heliothis virescens (generalist) herbivory induced unique HIPV profiles in Nicotiana benthamiana, we used these HIPVs to prime receiver plants for defense responses to simulated herbivory (mechanical wounding and herbivore regurgitant application). Jasmonic acid (JA) accumulations and emitted volatile profiles were monitored as representative defense responses since JA is the major plant hormone involved in wound and defense signaling and HIPVs have been implicated as signals in tritrophic interactions. Herbivore species-specific HIPVs primed neighboring plants, which produced 2 to 4 times more volatiles and JA after simulated herbivory when compared to similarly treated constitutive volatile-exposed plants. However, HIPV-exposed plants accumulated similar amounts of volatiles and JA independent of the combination of priming or challenging herbivore. Furthermore, volatile profiles emitted by primed plants depended only on the challenging herbivore species but not on the species-specific HIPV profile of damaged emitter plants. This suggests that feeding by either herbivore species primed neighboring plants for increased HIPV emissions specific to the subsequently attacking herbivore and is probably controlled by JA.  相似文献

The predatory mite Neoseiulus womersleyi shows a significant correlation between its olfactory response and dispersal tendency in different geographical populations. This study investigated the genetic background of the relationship using isofemale lines. Y-tube olfactometer tests confirmed that there was a genetic component in predator response to herbivore-induced plant volatiles. Wind tunnel tests in the absence of the herbivore-induced plant volatiles revealed that the dispersal tendencies of N. womersleyi exhibited genetic variation among isofemale lines, and other experiments revealed the existence of significant differences in prey consumption rate, fecundity, and developmental time. However, there was no genetic correlation between behavioral traits (olfactory response, innate dispersal) and the other traits, suggesting that the positive correlation between the behavioral traits was not caused by genetic factors.  相似文献

本研究以259名(男女大约各半)正常青少年为被试者,按年龄分成4组(9.8±0.7、12.0±0.7、14.1±0.8、17.1±0.8岁),测试了4种视觉记忆性作业工效。根据信号检测理论,对各组的正确反应(H)、正确否定(CR)、漏报(0M)、虚报(FA)、觉察力(A)及反应时(RT)等工效指标进行分析,并对H、CR、OM、FA4种情况下的脑电进行了累加、滤波、平滑及压缩处理,求出事件相关电位(ERPs)成分(N100、P200、N200、P300)的波幅和潜时。结果表明,在相同作业条件下,随年龄增长记忆工效(H、A)提高;RT缩短;P300潜时缩短。在同一组中,随记忆搜索负荷加大,工效(H、A)明显下降;RT延长;P300潜时延长。将上述各组工效与P300的基础数据综合分析,能有效地评价脑功能,适用于临床及工效学研究。  相似文献

The Keap1-Nrf2 system is an attractive target for drug discovery regarding various unmet medical needs. Only covalent inhibitors for protein-protein interaction (PPI) between Keap1 and Nrf2 to activate Nrf2 have been approved or are under clinical trials, but such electrophilic compounds lack selectivity. Therefore, specific non-covalent Keap1-Nrf2 PPI inhibitors are expected to be safer Nrf2 activators. We found a novel class of non-covalent Keap1-Nrf2 PPI inhibitor that has a benzo[g]indole skeleton and an indole-3-hydroxamic acid moiety and that exhibits significant PPI inhibitory activity. Additionally, the benzo[g]indole-3-carbohydrazide derivatives were newly prepared. The benzo[g]indole derivatives showed a stronger Keap1-Nrf2 PPI inhibitory activity than Cpd16, a previously reported non-covalent PPI inhibitor. Moreover, most of the PPI inhibitors showed a high metabolic stability in a human microsome system with a low cytotoxicity against HepG2 cell lines, which suggests that novel benzo[g]indole-type Keap1-Nrf2 PPI inhibitors are expected to be biological tools or lead compounds for Nrf2 activators.  相似文献
