ABSTRACT Species in the family Psittacidae may be particularly vulnerable to anthropogenic habitat transformations that reduce availability of suitable breeding sites at different spatial scales. In southern Chile, loss of native forest cover due to agricultural conversion may impact populations of Slender‐billed Parakeets (Enicognathus leptorhynchus), endemic secondary cavity‐nesting psittacids. Our objective was to assess nest‐site selection by Slender‐billed Parakeets in an agricultural‐forest mosaic of southern Chile at two spatial scales: nest trees and the habitat surrounding those trees. During the 2008–2009 breeding seasons, we identified nest sites (N= 31) by observing parakeet behavior and using information provided by local residents. Most (29/31) nests were in mature Nothofagus obliqua trees. By comparing trees used for nesting with randomly selected, unused trees, we found that the probability of a tree being selected as a nest site was positively related to the number of cavity entrances, less dead crown, and more basal injuries (e.g., fire scars). At the nesting‐habitat scale, nest site selection was positively associated with the extent of basal injuries and number of cavity entrances in trees within 50 m of nest trees. These variables are likely important because they allow nesting parakeets to minimize cavity search times in potential nesting areas, thereby reducing energetic demands and potential exposure to predators. Slender‐billed Parakeets may thus use a hierarchical process to select nest sites; after a habitat patch is chosen, parakeets may then inspect individual trees in search of a suitable nest site. Effective strategies to ensure persistence of Slender‐billed Parakeets in agricultural‐forest mosaics should include preservation of both individual and groups of scattered mature trees.  相似文献

1. Development in organisms can vary in response to fluctuating environments. In holometabolous insects, variation in adult phenotypic traits is strongly influenced by growth conditions experienced by larvae. The main aim of this study was to assess how much environmental insight can be gained from analysis of the phenotypic changes in an insect's life history parameters in response to realistic food limitations. 2. This investigation was motivated by a need for more information about the developmental requirements of the endangered pine hoverfly Blera fallax (Linnaeus) (Diptera, Syrphidae) in Scotland. Blera fallax depends on a scarce and often ephemeral habitat, rot holes of Scots pine Pinus sylvestris L. stumps. We studied how rearing conditions affected growth in captive larvae, and compared these responses with a wild population. 3. The growth curve observed in the field was similar to that in resource‐limited, lab conditions, suggesting that resources are limiting in nature. The effects of resource availability on development time and body size depended on sex. Adult females were larger but had more variable size at maturity compared with males. In contrast, males typically were not smaller in resource‐limited conditions, but rather continued to develop for another year. Between 2% and 20% of larvae extended development over 2 years regardless of growth conditions, perhaps indicating a semivoltine strategy to circumvent extinction during years with a low breeding success. 4. These results identify life history traits that may be important for other saproxylic Diptera in rot holes, and organisms that experience food restrictions during growth.  相似文献

Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is a highly species-specific DNA virus infecting up to 80% of the general population. The viral genome contains the open reading frame UL80, which encodes the full-length 80 kDa HCMV serine protease and its substrate. Full-length HCMV protease is composed of an N-terminal 256-amino-acid proteolytic domain, called assemblin, a linker region, and a C-terminal structural domain, the assembly protein precursor. Biochemical studies have shown that dimerization activates assemblin because of an induced stabilization of the oxyanion hole (Arg166). Thus, we performed here molecular dynamics (MD) simulations on HCMV protease models to study the induced-fit mechanism of the enzyme upon the binding of substrates and peptidyl inhibitors, and structural and energetic factors that are responsible for the catalytic activity of the enzyme dimer. Long and stable trajectories were obtained for the models of the monomeric and dimeric states, free in solution and bound to a peptidyl-activated carbonyl inhibitor, with very good agreement between theoretical and experimental results. Our results suggest that HCMV protease is indeed a novel example of serine protease that operates by an induced-fit mechanism. Also, in agreement with mutagenesis studies, our MD simulations suggest that the dimeric form is necessary to activate the enzyme because of an induced stabilization of the oxyanion hole.  相似文献

Bismuth vanadate (BiVO4) is reported as a key material in photoelectrocatalysis owing to high theoretical efficiency, relatively narrow band gap of 2.4 eV, and favorable conduction band edge position for hydrogen evolution. However, the sluggish hole transport dynamics lead to slow photogenerated charge separation and transport efficiencies, which result in charge recombination due to aggregation. Herein, a novel hole transport layer of copper(I) thiocyanate (CuSCN) with the aim of significantly enhancing the efficiency of charge transport and stability of BiVO4 photoanodes is reported. The introduction of the hole transport layer could provide an appropriate intermediate energy level for photogenerated hole transfer and avoid charge recombination and trapping. After a photoassisted electrodeposition process of NiCoFe-Bi catalysis, the obtained photoanode achieves a photocurrent density of 5.6 mA cm−2 at 1.23 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode under AM 1.5 G simulated solar radiation, and an applied bias photon to current efficiency of 2.31%. With the CuSCN layer, BiVO4 photoanode presented impressive stable photocurrent during 50 h continuous illumination. Meanwhile, the unbiased tandem device of the NiCoFe-Bi/CuSCN/BiVO4 photoanode and the Si solar cell exhibit a solar-to-hydrogen efficiency of 5.75% and excellent stability for 14 h.  相似文献

摘要 目的:探讨单孔与三孔胸腔镜肺叶切除术对周围型肺癌患者炎症因子、生活质量、T淋巴细胞亚群的影响。方法:回顾性分析我院于2016年12月~2019年10月间收治的80例周围型肺癌患者的临床资料。根据手术方式的不同将其分为A组(n=39,行三孔胸腔镜肺叶切除术)、B组(n=41,单孔胸腔镜肺叶切除术),比较两组患者围术期指标、血清炎症因子、外周血T淋巴细胞亚群、生活质量及并发症情况。结果:两组术中淋巴结清扫个数、术中出血量对比无差异(P>0.05),B组术后引流管拔除时间、切口长度短于A组,手术时间长于A组,视觉模拟评分法(VAS)评分低于A组(P<0.05)。两组术后并发症发生率比较无差异(P>0.05)。两组术后3 d、术后7 d降钙素原(PCT)、肿瘤坏死因子-α(TNF-α)、C反应蛋白(CRP)及CD8+水平均较术前升高,术后7 d上述指标较术后3 d降低,且B组术后3 d、术后7 d上述指标水平低于A组(P<0.05)。两组术后3 d、术后7 d的CD4+、CD4+/CD8+均较术前降低,术后7 d上述指标较术后3 d升高,且B组术后3 d、术后7 d上述指标水平高于A组(P<0.05),两组术后3个月情感状况、功能状况、社会/家庭状况、附加状况、身体状况评分均升高,且B组高于A组(P<0.05)。结论:与三孔胸腔镜肺叶切除术相比,采用单孔胸腔镜肺叶切除术治疗周围型肺癌,可获得与其相当的治疗效果,同时还可减少术中损伤,降低炎症因子水平,减轻免疫抑制和炎症应激,提高患者生活质量,且不增加并发症发生率。  相似文献

The development of effective and stable hole transporting materials (HTMs) is very important for achieving high‐performance planar perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Herein, copper salts (cuprous thiocyanate (CuSCN) or cuprous iodide (CuI)) doped 2,2,7,7‐tetrakis(N,N‐di‐p‐methoxyphenylamine)‐9,9‐spirobifluorene (spiro‐OMeTAD) based on a solution processing as the HTM in PSCs is demonstrated. The incorporation of CuSCN (or CuI) realizes a p‐type doping with efficient charge transfer complex, which results in improved film conductivity and hole mobility in spiro‐OMeTAD:CuSCN (or CuI) composite films. As a result, the PCE is largely improved from 14.82% to 18.02% due to obvious enhancements in the cell parameters of short‐circuit current density and fill factor. Besides the HTM role, the composite film can suppress the film aggregation and crystallization of spiro‐OMeTAD films with reduced pinholes and voids, which slows down the perovskite decomposition by avoiding the moisture infiltration to some extent. The finding in this work provides a simple method to improve the efficiency and stability of planar perovskite solar cells.  相似文献

The nutrient base of aquatic tree-hole communities is derived from leaf litter, benthic detritus, and water flowing down the tree trunk (stemflow water). Previous studies in eastern North America with the mosquito, Aedes triseriatus, have identified leaf litter as a major and stemflow water as a minor source of mosquito nutrition, but did not consider the role of the benthic detritus or how the aggregate or relative contribution of these sources of mosquito nutrition changed during the year. We use the leaf litter, benthic detritus, and stemflow water from tree holes in western Oregon (USA) to determine how these substrates affect mass at metamorphosis, biomass yield, and fitness (cohort replacement rate; R 0) of the mosquito, Aedes sierrensis, through both natural and simulated winters, the normal growing season for larvae in tree holes. We found that fresh leaf litter constitutes the major determinant of mosquito fitness by a factor of >15:1 over any other substrate taken directly from tree holes in nature. The other substrates, including the benthic detritus, individually make only a meager contribution to mosquito fitness but, when added to the leaf litter, can sustain yield and improve fitness at high, limiting larval densities. Nutritional quality of tree-hole substrates declines by >90% from early (fall) to late (spring) in the larval growing season. At both times of year, the coarse or fine detritus provide minor resources, and stemflow water provides no detectable contribution to mosquito nutrition. The resources in the litter are not transported during the year to the benthic detritus; rather, these resources are either exploited by mosquitoes when they first become available, or they deteriorate and become progressively more unavailable to them. Growth and development of A. sierrensis feeding on dried and reconstituted tree-hole contents during a 6-month simulated winter in the laboratory showed: (1) the same relative contributions of leaf litter, benthic detritus, and stemflow water to mosquito nutrition, (2) that the winter deterioration of substrate quality is a direct consequence of microbial decomposition, and (3) that pre-emptive competition from pre-existing A. sierrensis greatly increases substrate deterioration. We conclude that the progressive winter deterioration of larval resources in combination with the dry summers of western North America are the most likely environmental factors that limit species diversity in tree holes and that have selected for early recruitment (autumnal hatching) of A. sierrensis and for its univoltine life cycle from Mexico to Canada.
