In this paper, the attainability of ESS of the evolutionary game among n players under the frequency-independent selection is studied by means of a mathematical model describing the dynamical development and a concept of stability (strongly determined stability). It is assumed that natural selection and small mutations cause the phenotype to change gradually in the direction of fitness increasing. It is shown that (1) the ESS solution is not always evolutionarily attainable in the evolutionary dynamics, (2) in the game where the interaction between two species is completely competitive, the Nash solution is always attainable, and (3) one of two species may attain the state of minimum fitness as a result of evolution. The attainability of ESS is also examined in two game models on the sex ratio of wasps and aphids in light of our criterion of the attainability of ESS. 相似文献

We isolated a mouse genomic clone that hybridized with small RNA present in the cytoplasm of the brain. The RNA was about 150 nucleotides long. This RNA seemed to be specific to the brain, since it was not found in the liver or kidney. The clone DNA contained a sequence homologous to 82-nucleotide "identifier" core sequence of cDNA clones of rat. The sequence contained a split promoter for RNA polymerase III and was flanked by a 12-nucleotide direct repeat (ATAAATAATTTA). 相似文献

Summary Transformation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae with several yeast CEN4 ARS1 plasmids containing the his3-4 allele (as well as the URA3 and TRP1 markers) yielded His+ transformants at 0.1%–50% the frequency of Ura+ Trp+ transformants. Additional His+ derivatives arose on continuous growth of transformants originally scored as His- Ura+ Trp+. In all cases, the His+ phenotype was not due to plasmid or host mutations but invariably correlated with an up to 12-fold increase in plasmid copy number. On removal of selective pressure, the His+ phenotype was lost more readily than the Ura+ Trp+ markers, with a corresponding decrease in plasmid copy number. Also, the amplification did not decrease the mitotic loss rate of the Ura+ Trp+ markers. These results indicate that CEN ARS plasmids can be spontaneously amplified to higher levels than previously observed. However, when amplified, apparently not all copies exhibit the characteristic stability of CEN ARS plasmids. 相似文献

Summary The genomic distribution and genetic behavior of DNA sequences introduced into the tomato genome by Agrobacterium tumefaciens were investigated in the backcross progeny of 10 transformed Lycopersicon esculentum x L. pennellii hybrids. All transformants were found to represent single locus insertions based on the co-segregation of restriction fragments corresponding to the T-DNA left and right border sequences in the backcross progeny. Isozyme and restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) markers were used to test linkage relationships of the insertion in each backcross family. The T-DNA inserts in 9 of the 10 transformants were mapped in relation to one or more of these markers, and each mapped to a different chromosomal location. Because only one insertion did not show linkage with the markers employed, it must be located somewhere other than the genomic regions covered by the markers assayed. We conclude that Agrobacterium-mediated insertion in the Lycopersicon genome appears to be random at the chromosomal level. No discrepancies were found between the T-DNA genotype and the nopaline phenotype in the 322 backcross progeny of the nopaline positive transformants. Backcross progeny of two nopaline negative transformants showed incomplete correspondence between the T-DNA genotype and the kanamycin resistance phenotype. No alteration of T-DNA was observed in progeny showing a discrepancy between T-DNA and kanamycin resistance. The interaction between poly(l-lysines) of varying size with cardiolipin was investigated via binding assays, X-ray diffraction, freeze-fracture electron microscopy, and 31P- and 13C-NMR. Binding of polylysines to the lipid only occurred when three or more lysine residues were present per molecule. The strength of the binding was highly dependent on the polymerization degree, suggesting a cooperative interaction of the lysines within the polymer. Upon binding, a structural reorganization of the lipids takes place, resulting in a closely packed multilamellar system in which the polylysines are sandwiched in between subsequent bilayers. Acyl chain motion is reduced in these liquid-crystalline peptide-lipid complexes. From competition experiments with Ca2+ it could be concluded that when the affinity of the polylysine for cardiolipin was much larger than that of Ca2+, a lamellar polylysine-lipid complex was formed, irrespective of whether an excess of Ca2+ was added prior to or after the polypeptide. When the affinity of the polylysine for cardiolipin was less or of the same order as that of Ca2+, the lipid was organized in the hexagonal HII phase in the presence of Ca2+. These results are discussed in the light of the peptide specificity of bilayer (de)stabilization in cardiolipin model membranes. 相似文献

Summary A large number of aluminum-resistant variants, selected from non-mutagenized homozygous diploid cell cultures of Nicotiana plumbaginifolia Viv., are characterized. Of 115 variants cloned and reselected from single cells, 67 retained Al resistance in callus cultures after 6–9 months of growth in the absence of Al. There was no association between Al resistance and callus growth in the absence of Al, suggesting that the Al-resistant phenotype is not detrimental in the absence of Al challenge and that Al resistance is not the result of increased vigor. Plants regenerated from initially resistant callus lines that subsequently lost their resistance failed, with one exception, to transmit resistance to their seedling progeny. Fertile plants were regenerated from 40 of the 67 variants that retained stable Al resistance in callus culture. All 40 transmitted Al resistance to their seedling progeny (selfed and backcrossed) in segregation ratios expected for a single dominant mutation. The selfed progeny of many variants also segregated for recessive lethal mutations which were attributed to independent mutations that occurred during cell culture. 相似文献

Summary Maize and tomato cDNA clones have been hybridized in Southern blotting experiments to plant genomic DNA prepared from different lines to detect restriction fragment polymorphisms (RFPs). In maize we have found that a high degree of genetic variability is present, even among domestic inbred lines. Most randomly chosen maize cDNA clones can be used to detect elements of this variability. Similar levels of polymorphism are observed when genomic DNA is digested with any of a number of different restriction enzymes and probed with individual clones. When a clone is hybridized to genomic DNAs prepared from several different maize lines, a number of different alleles are often detected at a single locus. At the same time one clone can often detect more than one independently segregating locus by cross hybridization to related sequences at other loci. As expected these markers are inherited as simple codominant Mendelian alleles from one generation to the next and colinkage of these markers can be demonstrated in the progeny from a heterozygous parent. In similar studies with tomato, remarkably different results were found. Few RFPs were demonstrable among domestic Lycopersicon esculentum lines although a higher level of variability could be detected when comparing esculentum with its wild Lycopersicon relatives. These results are discussed in relation to the applied uses of RFPs in plant breeding as well as the inherent variability of different plant genomes.This work was supported in part by funds from Sandoz Ltd. The genomic sequences of several RNA plant viruses including cucumber mosaic virus, brome mosaic virus, alfalfa mosaic virus
and tobacco mosaic virus have become available recently. The former two viruses are icosahedral while the latter two are bullet
and rod shaped, respectively in particle morphology. The non-structural 3a proteins of cucumber mosaic virus and brome mosaic
virus have an amino acid sequence homology of 35% and hence are evolutionarily related. In contrast, the coat proteins exhibit
little homology, although the circular dichroism spectrum of these viruses are similar. The non-coding regions of the genome
also exhibit variable but extensive homology. Comparison of the brome mosaic virus and alfalfa mosaic virus sequences reveals
that they are probably related although with a much larger evolutionary distance. The polypeptide folds of the coat protein
of three biologically distinct isometric plant viruses, tomato Bushy stunt virus, southern bean mosaic virus and satellite
tobacco necrosis virus have been shown to display a striking resemblance. All of them consist of a topologically similar 8-standard
β-Barrel. The implications of these studies to the understanding of the evolution of plant viruses will be discussed. 相似文献

3-Phosphoglycerate kinase (ATP:3-phospho-d-glycerate 1-phosphotransferase, EC 2.7.2.3) has been covalently immobilized on a polyacrylamide-type support containing carboxylic groups activated by water-soluble carbodiimide. The activity was 88 units g?1 xerogel. The activity versus pH profile showed a sharper maximum at pH 6.5 in the case of the immobilized enzyme. The immobilized enzyme had a broad apparent optimum temperature range between 40 and 50°C. The apparent Km values of the immobilized 3-phosphoglycerate kinase were lower for both 3-phosphoglycerate and ATP than those of the soluble enzyme. To improve the inulinase (2,1-β-d-fructan fructanohydrolase, EC 3.2.1.7) stability of calcium alginate-immobilized Kluyveromyces marxianus cells, treatment with hardening agents has been investigated. Treatment of immobilized cells with some polycationic polymers resulted in little decrease in volumetric reactor productivity, but was most effective in increasing the inulinase stability of the immobilized cells. Inulinase stability of glutaraldehyde-hardened immobilized cells increased two-fold, and for hexamethylenediamine + glutaraldehyde and polyethyleneimine + glutaraldehyde-hardened cells increased six-fold compared with that of the unhardened cells. 相似文献
