The relationship between genotype (which is inherited) and phenotype (the target of selection) is mediated by environmental inputs on gene expression, trait development, and phenotypic integration. Phenotypic plasticity or epigenetic modification might influence evolution in two general ways: (1) by stimulating evolutionary responses to environmental change via population persistence or by revealing cryptic genetic variation to selection, and (2) through the process of genetic accommodation, whereby natural selection acts to improve the form, regulation, and phenotypic integration of novel phenotypic variants. We provide an overview of models and mechanisms for how such evolutionary influences may be manifested both for plasticity and epigenetic marking. We point to promising avenues of research, identifying systems that can best be used to address the role of plasticity in evolution, as well as the need to apply our expanding knowledge of genetic and epigenetic mechanisms to our understanding of how genetic accommodation occurs in nature. Our review of a wide variety of studies finds widespread evidence for evolution by genetic accommodation. 相似文献

For a quantitative trait under stabilizing selection, the effect of epistasis on its genetic architecture and on the changes of genetic variance caused by bottlenecking were investigated using theory and simulation. Assuming empirical estimates of the rate and effects of mutations and the intensity of selection, we assessed the impact of two‐locus epistasis (synergistic/antagonistic) among linked or unlinked loci on the distribution of effects and frequencies of segregating loci in populations at the mutation‐selection‐drift balance. Strong pervasive epistasis did not modify substantially the genetic properties of the trait and, therefore, the most likely explanation for the low amount of variation usually accounted by the loci detected in genome‐wide association analyses is that many causal loci will pass undetected. We investigated the impact of epistasis on the changes in genetic variance components when large populations were subjected to successive bottlenecks of different sizes, considering the action of genetic drift, operating singly (D), or jointly with mutation (MD) and selection (MSD). An initial increase of the different components of the genetic variance, as well as a dramatic acceleration of the between‐line divergence, were always associated with synergistic epistasis but were strongly constrained by selection. 相似文献

目的:研究肿瘤翻译控制蛋白(TCTP)在辐射诱导胶质瘤细胞旁效应中的作用及机制。方法:给予不同剂量的X射线照射U87、SHG44两种胶质瘤细胞,观察U87以及SHG44细胞的克隆形成率,并在给予最佳照射剂量后,通过Western Blot检测TCTP蛋白表达水平。将经过最佳X射线照射剂量的U87以及SHG44两种胶质瘤细胞与未经过辐射照射的细胞放在一起共培养,通过MTT实验检测胶质瘤细胞的增殖率,Western Blot检测共培养的胶质瘤细胞与经过辐射的胶质瘤细胞中Caspase3蛋白表达水平。结果:U87以及SHG44两种胶质瘤细胞的克隆形成率随着X射线照射剂量增加而显著性降低(P0.05),给予最佳X射线照射剂量后,与未经过X射辐射照射后的细胞相比,其TCTP蛋白表达水平明显升高(P0.05)。经过辐射照射与未经过辐射照射的胶质瘤细胞经过共培养后,与经过辐射的胶质瘤细胞相比,细胞的增殖率明显升高,同时共培养的胶质瘤细胞与经过辐射的胶质瘤细胞相比,Caspase3的蛋白表达明显降低(P0.05)。结论:TCTP的表达增高能够诱导未经过辐射的U87以及SHG44两种胶质瘤细胞的抗凋亡作用增强,其作用机制可能与Caspase3的表达降低有关。 相似文献

目的:探讨右美托咪啶联合咪达唑仑在颅脑创伤中的镇静效果及对神经内分泌的影响。方法:选择2015年3月至2016年5月我院收治的82例颅脑外伤患者,随机分为对照组(n=41)和观察组(n=41),对照组患者给予丙泊酚联合右美托咪啶镇静治疗,观察组患者则给予右美托咪啶联合咪达唑仑镇静治疗。比较两组患者24 h内镇静效率、镇静1 d医疗费用及用药前后呼吸循环功能变化、血清皮质醇、β-内啡肽水平、外周血白细胞计数以及血糖水平。结果:观察组镇静1 d医疗费用较对照组降低,有统计学差异(P0.05),但两组镇静效率比较无统计学差异(P0.05)。用药后观察组患者平均动脉压(MAP)、心率(HR)和呼吸频率(RR)分别高于对照组,差异具有统计学意义(P0.05),而血氧饱和度(SpO2)、中心静脉压(CVP)比较无统计学差异(P0.05)。用药后两组患者血清皮质醇、β-内啡肽均较用药前降低,观察组血清皮质醇、β-内啡肽均高于对照组,差异具有统计学意义(P0.05)。用药后观察组患者外周血白细胞计数、血糖水平较用药前降低,对照组患者血糖水平较用药前降低,观察组患者外周血白细胞计数显著低于对照组,差异具有统计学意义(P0.05)。结论:右美托咪啶联合咪达唑仑应用于颅脑创伤中的镇静效果显著,可有效控制颅脑创伤后的过度应激反应,降低神经内分泌系统紊乱,减少医疗费用,值得临床推广应用。 相似文献

Condition‐dependent genetic interactions can reveal functional relationships between genes that are not evident under standard culture conditions. State‐of‐the‐art yeast genetic interaction mapping, which relies on robotic manipulation of arrays of double‐mutant strains, does not scale readily to multi‐condition studies. Here, we describe barcode fusion genetics to map genetic interactions (BFG‐GI), by which double‐mutant strains generated via en masse “party” mating can also be monitored en masse for growth to detect genetic interactions. By using site‐specific recombination to fuse two DNA barcodes, each representing a specific gene deletion, BFG‐GI enables multiplexed quantitative tracking of double mutants via next‐generation sequencing. We applied BFG‐GI to a matrix of DNA repair genes under nine different conditions, including methyl methanesulfonate (MMS), 4‐nitroquinoline 1‐oxide (4NQO), bleomycin, zeocin, and three other DNA‐damaging environments. BFG‐GI recapitulated known genetic interactions and yielded new condition‐dependent genetic interactions. We validated and further explored a subnetwork of condition‐dependent genetic interactions involving MAG1, SLX4, and genes encoding the Shu complex, and inferred that loss of the Shu complex leads to an increase in the activation of the checkpoint protein kinase Rad53. 相似文献

The disruption of chemical communication between insects and host plants may take place due to an interference with the signal‐emitting host plant, or the signal‐receiving insect, compromising the signal production and emission, or its reception and processing. Anthropogenic compounds, in general, and pesticides, in particular, may impair the chemical communication that mediates host location by insects. Five different pesticides (the insecticides malathion, pyrethrins and spinetoram, and the fungicides fenhexamid and pyrimethanil) were applied at their field rates to raspberry fruits, or Petri dishes enclosing adult spotted wing Drosophila (SWD; Drosophila suzukii), and the attraction to fruit volatiles was evaluated in a series of two‐choice flight bioassays. The application of raspberry fruit with pesticides did not statistically affect attraction of unexposed adults, with exceptions being the spinetoram treatment, which led to mild insect avoidance, and the pyrethrin treatment, which resulted in slightly preferential attraction. In contrast, adults sublethally exposed to the pesticides had their flight take‐off impaired by the insecticides, but not by the fungicides. Furthermore, all pesticides, and particularly the insecticides, compromised the upwind capture of adults. Thus, the treatment with pesticides may indeed interfere with the flight response of SWD to host volatiles, particularly when the insects were previously exposed to pesticides. These findings are suggestive of the potential for sublethal insecticidal exposures to aid pest control and also provide evidence that pesticide use may compromise sampling/trapping strategies for this pest species that are based on attraction to host volatiles. 相似文献

Comparative genetic isolation patterns for multiple headwater fishes in three geographic regions 下载免费PDF全文
Headwater‐resident fishes may be prone to a high rate of isolation and a pronounced hierarchical genetic structure due to a combination of niche preference and dendritic effects of river networks. Genetic isolation patterns were compared using microsatellites in six headwater fishes, Fundulus olivaceus, Semotilus atromaculatus, Erimyzon claviformis, Etheostoma artesiae, Etheostoma whipplei and Etheostoma parvipinne, in three geographic regions that included drainages of small, medium and large sizes in the southern United States. All species showed hierarchical nesting of genetic populations and there were clear and mostly consistent differences between species and regions that were identified through summary statistics derived from two independent analyses. For species comparisons, a high isolation grouping (increased number of isolated genetic clusters or sites within regions) and a low‐isolation grouping (decreased number of clusters or sites) were identified. Species group placement was related to niche breadth along the river continuum and presumed abundance and variability of preferred microhabitats, with increased headwater specialization among species being associated with placement in the high‐isolation grouping. There was a weakly significant positive effect of drainage size on the number of isolated clusters or sites across all species. Regional patterns were shared in two species, with the region containing the smallest drainages having lower rates of isolation in both datasets. This study shows the effects of regional and species characteristics on genetic isolation for headwater species, which are especially prone to isolation due to spatial, dendritic effects of river networks. 相似文献

Escape from predatory attack as a socially coordinated group is observed in many social animals, including birds, especially those in more open habitats where the group itself may be the only source of protection from an attacking predator. For many social birds, however, woody vegetative cover is the main refuge from attack, but such birds might nevertheless benefit from social coordination during escape flights to cover. Such benefits could reflect the confusion effect, selfish herd effect, or the simple dilution of risk. We examined this possibility of coordinated escape in mixed flocks of wintering passerellid sparrows (Passerellidae). These free-living birds fed in a patch of food flanked on opposite sides by two refuges composed of woody cover. Under such conditions, coordination in escape behavior should be expressed as a tendency to escape together as a group to the same cover location. Such behavior, however, was not the rule. During spontaneous flushes to cover, a group of escaping birds stayed together only when one cover location was clearly closer than the other. With cover equidistant from the food patch, escaping flocks tended to split about evenly between cover locations. Birds in close proximity prior to an escape flight did not show enhanced escape coordination, nor did those feeding at significant distances from protective cover. Evidence of escape coordination was observed in small groups (two–four birds), but even in such groups, flock splitting during escape was generally the rule. Flock splitting during attacks might reflect some sort of strategic decision-making process that lessens the risk of capture, but the most parsimonious explanation is that (all else equal) birds head for the nearest refuge, largely irrespective of the behavior of their flockmates. Our results thus provide little evidence of flock-wide social coordination during escape flights in cover-dependent birds. 相似文献
