To study the molecular epidemiology of noroviruses (NoVs) in bivalves residing in freshwater rivers, we detected, quantified and phylogenetically analyzed the NoV genome in purified concentrates obtained from the gills and digestive diverticula of Corbicula fluminea in a freshwater river in Gunma Prefecture, Japan. We detected the NoV genome in 35 of the 58 C. fluminea samples. Based on our phylogenetic analysis, the NoV genome detected in the samples was classified into 4 genotypes (GI/1, GI/2, GI/3 and GI/4) in genogroup I and 5 genotypes (GII/3, GII/4, GII/5, GII/8 and GII/12) in genogroup II. The phylogenetic tree showed wide genetic diversity among the genogroups. In addition, more than 10(4) copies of the NoV genome were detected in 2 of 35 samples. These results suggest that the freshwater bivalve C. fluminea is a reservoir for NoVs, similar to seawater bivalves such as oysters.  相似文献

The historic biogeography of the aquatic fauna of the Levant is reconstructed upon evidence of the gastropod groups with a well-established taxonomy and a rich fossil record. Faunal origins include ancient northern elements coming from an Anatolian–Iberian faunal province that, in the early Miocene, bypassed mainland Italy. This scenario is more plausible than the current 'Lago Mare' biogeographical theory. Palaeotropical elements represent either an Oriental or an African source; in either case these elements could have first reached Anatolia, from where they eventually spread southwards into the Levant, perhaps broadly coinciding in time with the invasion of the northern elements. Within the Levant, the faunas of the Euphrates, Orontes, and Jordan formed at first one common pool, but by 2 Mya the fauna of the Jordan had diverged from that of the Orontes; later, the Orontes fauna diverged from that of the Euphrates. By 1.4 Mya the fauna of the Levant consisted of both ancient survivors and new species. Some 780 000 years ago there was an exceptionally diversified fauna with many new, northern elements. Many of these elements did not survive to recent times. The fossil record suggests that the fauna of the Jordan Valley was separate from that of the Orontes throughout the Pliocene–Pleistocene. 环境DNA (eDNA)是指生物有机体在环境中(例如土壤、沉积物或水体)遗留下的DNA片段。eDNA技术是指从环境中提取DNA片段进行测序以及数据分析来反映环境中的物种或群落信息。与传统方法相比, eDNA技术具有高灵敏度、省时省力、无损伤等优点。目前, eDNA技术已成为一种新的水生生物监测方法, 主要应用于水生生物的多样性研究、濒危和稀有动物的物种状态及外来入侵动物扩散动态的监测等。本文从eDNA技术在水生生物多样性监测应用领域的发展历程、eDNA技术的操作流程以及其在监测淡水底栖大型无脊椎动物方面的应用进展、技术优势和局限性五个方面进行了综述。最后, 本文对eDNA技术在淡水底栖大型无脊椎动物多样性监测应用的发展趋势和前景作出展望。  相似文献

Patterns and trends of declining reed-beds in four freshwater ecosystems in central Italy are investigated through an aerial orthoimagery-based diachronic analysis over a period of 24 years. Extent variations and retreat from the waterfront are detected in all sites, compensated only in few cases by backwards enlargements. These shape and size modifications suggest that reed die-back is associated with retreat and with a notable fragmentation process. Long-term analysis performed in one of the sites, compared to water levels, shows a drastic extent decrease co-occurring with an artificial rise of the water level, confirming the regulation of freshwater bodies as a driver of biodiversity loss. Results also suggest that reed-dominated ecosystems may reach a threshold of tolerance towards stressing conditions beyond which they cannot regenerate. The carried out study testifies for a valuable role of landscape metrics in analysing the spatial processes related to declining reed-beds. Spatial metrics prove to be a suitable tool in monitoring processes, working as early warning signals of ongoing decline and helping to model future changes.  相似文献

Freshwater turtle hatchlings primarily use visual cues for orientation while dispersing from nests; however, hatchlings rapidly develop a relationship between a sun or geomagnetic compass and a dispersal target that allows them to maintain an established direction of movement when target habitats are not visible. We examined dispersal patterns of hatchling snapping turtles (Chelydra serpentina) and Blanding's turtles (Emydoidea blandingii) dispersing in large arenas in a mowed field and in dense corn. The dispersal of three categories of hatchlings were examined: (1) naïve individuals (no previous dispersal experience), (2) arena‐experienced (limited dispersal experience in arenas in natural habitat), and (3) natural‐experienced hatchling Blanding's turtles (captured after extensive experience dispersing W in natural habitats toward wetlands). Experienced hatchlings were assigned to treatments consisting of having a magnet or a non‐magnetic aluminum sham or nothing glued to their anterior carapace before release in the corn arena. Dispersal patterns of naïve hatchlings of both species were strongly directional in the field arena with visible target horizons and primarily random in the corn arena where typical target horizons were blocked. When released in corn, dispersal patterns were similar for arena‐experienced hatchlings with magnets or shams attached and differed from their prior dispersal headings in the field arena as naïve hatchlings. Natural‐experienced hatchling Blanding's turtles with and without magnets were able to accurately maintain their prior headings to the WNW while dispersing in the field or corn arenas (i.e., the presence of a magnet did not disrupt their ability to maintain their prior heading). Based on the assumption that no other type of compass exists in hatchlings, we conclude that they were not using a geomagnetic compass, but by default were using sun compass orientation to maintain dispersal headings in dense corn where no typical target habitats were visible.  相似文献

Background and Aims Rock pools are small, geologically stable freshwater ecosystems that are both hydrologically and biologically isolated. They harbour high levels of plant endemism and experience environmental unpredictability driven by the presence of water over variable temporal scales. This study examined the hypothesis that the sediment seed bank in monsoon tropical freshwater rock pools would persist through one or more periods of desiccation, with seed dormancy regulating germination timing in response to rock pool inundation and drying events.Methods Seeds were collected from seven dominant rock pool species, and germination biology and seed dormancy were assessed under laboratory conditions in response to light, temperature and germination stimulators (gibberellic acid, karrikinolide and ethylene). Field surveys of seedling emergence from freshwater rock pools in the Kimberley region of Western Australia were undertaken, and sediment samples were collected from 41 vegetated rock pools. Seedling emergence and seed bank persistence in response to multiple wetting and drying cycles were determined.Key Results The sediment seed bank of individual rock pools was large (13 824 ± 307 to 218 320 ± 42 412 seeds m−2 for the five species investigated) and spatially variable. Seedling density for these same species in the field ranged from 13 696 to 87 232 seedlings m−2. Seeds of rock pool taxa were physiologically dormant, with germination promoted by after-ripening and exposure to ethylene or karrikinolide. Patterns of seedling emergence varied between species and were finely tuned to seasonal temperature and moisture conditions, with the proportions of emergent seedlings differing between species through multiple inundation events. A viable seed bank persisted after ten consecutive laboratory inundation events, and seeds retained viability in dry sediments for at least 3 years.Conclusions The persistent seed bank in freshwater rock pools is likely to provide resilience to plant communities against environmental stochasticity. Since rock pool communities are often comprised of highly specialized endemic and range-restricted species, sediment seed banks may represent significant drivers of species persistence and diversification in these ecosystems.  相似文献
