A Kolmogorov-type competition model featuring allocation profiles, gain functions, and cost parameters is examined. For plant species that compete for sunlight according to the canopy partitioning model [R.R. Vance and A.L. Nevai, Plant population growth and competition in a light gradient: a mathematical model of canopy partitioning, J. Theor. Biol. 245 (2007), pp. 210–219] the allocation profiles describe vertical leaf placement, the gain functions represent rates of leaf photosynthesis at different heights, and the cost parameters signify the energetic expense of maintaining tall stems necessary for gaining a competitive advantage in the light gradient. The allocation profiles studied here, being supported on three alternating intervals, determine “interior” and “exterior” species. When the allocation profile of the interior species is a delta function (a big leaf) then either competitive exclusion or coexistence at a single globally attracting equilibrium point occurs. However, if the allocation profile of the interior species is piecewise continuous or a weighted sum of delta functions (multiple big leaves) then multiple coexistence states may also occur.  相似文献

Phytochrome A (phyA) is the primary photoreceptor responsible for various far-red (FR) light-mediated responses. Previous studies have identified multiple phyA signaling mutants, including both positive and negative regulators of the phyA-mediated responses. How these defined intermediates act to mediate FR light responses is largely unknown. Here a cDNA microarray was used to examine effects of those mutations on the far-red light control of genome expression. Clustering analysis of the genome expression profiles supports the notion that phyA signaling may entail a network with multiple paths, controlling overlapping yet distinct sets of gene expression. FHY1, FAR1 and FHY3 most likely act upstream in the phyA signaling network, close to the phyA photoreceptor itself. FIN219, SPA1 and REP1 most likely act somewhere more downstream in the network and control the expression of smaller sets of genes. Further, this study also provides genomics evidence for the partial functional redundancy between FAR1 and FHY3. These two homologous proteins control the expression of a largely overlapping set of genes, and likely act closely together in the phyA-mediated FR light responses.  相似文献

A 3‐year longitudinal study of quality‐of‐life outcomes of elderly patients with implant‐ and tooth‐supported fixed partial dentures in posterior dental regions Background: Clinical studies have mainly been focused on oral health‐related quality‐of‐life (OHRQoL) outcomes of removable dentures. Objective: To evaluate therapy of elderly patients with implant‐supported fixed partial dentures (IFPD) and tooth‐supported fixed partial dentures (FPD) in the posterior dental regions. Patients and methods: The OHIP49 was used to measure OHRQoL in 64 patients with IFPD and 38 patients with FPD, before, 3 weeks and 3 years after rehabilitation. A control group (CG) consisted of 62 individuals. Results: The Oral Health Impact Profile questionnaire (OHIP) follow‐up scores of the patients with FPD and the patients with IFPD were significantly smaller in comparison with the baseline scores (p < 0.01). The OHIP scores were further reduced at the 3‐year follow‐up. The patients with IFPD had significantly higher scores than the patients with FPD and the CG at the baseline and at the follow‐ups. In the patients with FPD, both age groups (≤60 and >60) showed equal improvement of the OHRQoL. In the IFPD group, patients older than 60 years showed better improvement (p < 0.05). There were no significant differences dependent on gender and antagonistic teeth (p > 0.05). Conclusion: The FPD and the IFPD treatment showed significant improvement of OHRQoL. The FPD treatment improved OHRQoL equally in both age groups, while the IFPD treatment improved OHRQoL better in older patients.  相似文献

Among 21 human strains of Laribacter hongkongensis, small plasmids were observed in four strains, and large ones in six strains. The smallest, 3264-bp plasmid, pHLHK19, has only one ORF that encodes a putative replication initiator protein and a predicted origin of replication (ori) with a DnaA box, three 18-bp direct repeats and five pairs of inverted repeats. An Escherichia coli-L. hongkongensis shuttle vector was constructed by ligating the HindIII-digested pHLHK19, containing the replication initiator protein and ori of pHLHK19, to HindIII-digested pBK-CMV. This shuttle vector can propagate in E. coli and L. hongkongensis with good transformation efficiencies.  相似文献

Tectona grandis L.f is a timber plant that is commonly referred to as teak. Its wide use as a medicine in the various indigenous systems makes it a plant of importance. A wide gamut of phytoconstituents like alkaloids, phenolic glycosides, steroids, etc. has been reported. A renewed interest in this plant has resulted in scientific investigations by various researchers towards the isolation and identification of active constituents along with scientific proof of its biological activities. The different parts of the plant have been scientifically evaluated for their antioxidant, antipyretic, analgesic, hypoglycemic, wound healing, cytotoxic, and many more biological activities. Documentation of this scientific knowledge is of importance to have consolidated precise information encompassing the various aspects of this plant, which could provide a base for future studies. This review is a compilation of the salient reports on these investigations concerning phytochemistry, the methods used to identify and quantify the constituents, the evaluation methods of the biological activity, toxicological studies, allergies and the patent/patent applications. This will further help researchers to find an area of the gap for future studies.  相似文献

In this study, we used denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) and culture-dependent methodology to characterize bacterial populations and mineral-dissolving bacteria in a mineral-rich soil profile. DGGE and sequencing revealed 13 known bacterial families and 7 unknown populations for the soil profile. Seventy-one isolates could solubilize feldspar. Weathering effectiveness and pattern of the isolates differed among the horizons. The 71 mineral-dissolving isolates were affiliated with 32 bacterial species within 14 genera, among which Bacillus, Burkholderia, and Arthrobacter were dominant. Distinct mineral-dissolving populations were observed between the surface and subsurface horizons. Notably, the deepest horizon showed maximum diversity of the mineral-dissolving bacteria. Furthermore, a significantly higher proportion of the high efficiency mineral-dissolving bacteria was observed in the deeper horizons than in the upper horizons. The results suggested that the soil profile harboured diverse mineral-dissolving populations and the dissolving potential and pattern and the community of the mineral-dissolving bacteria changed with depth.  相似文献

Brosimum parinarioides, a plant species native to the Amazonian region, is used in folk medicine for the treatment of several diseases. However, knowledge regarding its phytochemical content is scarce. In order to investigate the phytochemical composition of B. parinarioides, an integrative approach based on simplex-centroid design, direct infusion electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (DI-ESI-MS), and chemometric analysis was adopted. According to simplex-centroid design, dichloromethane (DCM), ethyl acetate (AcOEt), and ethanol-based (EtOH) extracts were prepared and analyzed using DI-ESI-MS, and their chemical profile was submitted to principal component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA). The AcOEt extract from the bark was obtained on a large scale and subjected to chromatographic separation. The multivariate analysis indicated the formation of three groups and highlighted isoliquiritigenin (1), licoagrochalcone A (2), caffeic acid glucoside (3), epicatechin-glycoside (4), caffeic acid (5), and one unknown compound, as being responsible for the segregation of these groups. Thus, the new compound was isolated and characterized using 1D and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HR-MS) as parinarioidin C (10). In addition, parinarioidin A (6), parinarioidin B (7), 3-O-caffeoylquinic acid (8), and kanzonol C (9) were tentatively identified based on manual interpretation of MS/MS spectra. Overall, the integrative approach proposed in the study provided a simple and effective model to dereplicate known compounds and guide the isolation of a new compound from a native amazon species, thus improving the knowledge regarding the phytochemical content of B. parinarioides.  相似文献
