Flowering time is one of important agronomic traits determining the crop yield and affected by high temperature. When facing high ambient temperature, plants often initiate early flowering as an adaptive strategy to escape the stress and ensure successful reproduction. However, here we find opposing ways in the short-day crop soybean to respond to different levels of high temperatures, in which flowering accelerates when temperature changes from 25 to 30 °C, but delays when temperature reaches 35 °C under short day. phyA-E1, possibly photoperiodic pathway, is crucial for 35 °C-mediated late flowering, however, does not contribute to promoting flowering at 30 °C. 30 °C-induced up-regulation of FT2a and FT5a leads to early flowering, independent of E1. Therefore, distinct responsive mechanisms are adopted by soybean when facing different levels of high temperatures for successful flowering and reproduction. 相似文献

Interaction of a 70-amino acid zinc-binding polypeptide from the regulatory chain of aspartate transcarbamoylase (ATCase) with the catalytic (C) subunit leads to dramatic changes in enzyme activity and affinity for ligand binding at the active sites. The complex between the polypeptide (zinc domain) and wild-type C trimer exhibits hyperbolic kinetics in contrast to the sigmoidal kinetics observed with the intact holoenzyme. Moreover, the Scatchard plot for binding N-(phosphonacetyl)-L-aspartate (PALA) to the complex is linear with a Kd corresponding to that evaluated for the holoenzyme converted to the relaxed (R) state. Additional evidence that the binding of the zinc domain to the C trimer converts it to the R state was attained with a mutant form of ATCase in which Lys 164 in the catalytic chain is replaced by Glu. As shown previously (Newell, J.O. & Schachman, H.K., 1990, Biophys. Chem. 37, 183-196), this mutant holoenzyme, which exists in the R conformation even in the absence of active site ligands, has a 50-fold greater affinity for PALA than the free C subunit. Adding the zinc domain to the C trimer containing the Lys 164-->Glu substitution leads to a 50-fold enhancement in the affinity for the bisubstrate analog yielding a value of Kd equal to that for the holoenzyme. A different mutant ATCase containing the Gln 231 to Ile replacement was shown (Peterson, C.B., Burman, D.L., & Schachman, H.K., 1992, Biochemistry 31, 8508-8515) to be much less active as a holoenzyme than as the free C trimer. For this mutant holoenzyme, the addition of substrates does not cause its conversion to the R state. However, the addition of the zinc domain to the Gln 231-->Ile C trimer leads to a marked increase in enzyme activity, and PALA binding data indicate that the complex resembles the R state of the holoenzyme. This interaction leading to a more active conformation serves as a model of intergenic complementation in which peptide binding to a protein causes a conformational correction at a site remote from the interacting surfaces resulting in activation of the protein. This linkage was also demonstrated by difference spectroscopy using a chromophore covalently bound at the active site, which served as a spectral probe for a local conformational change. The binding of ligands at the active sites was shown also to lead to a strengthening of the interaction between the zinc domain and the C trimer. 相似文献

Phenology influences many forest functions and can inform forest conservation and management, yet representative phenological data for most common tropical forest tree species remain sparse or absent. Between June 2011 and December 2013, we investigated flowering, fruiting, and leafing patterns in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a montane forest located near the equator in Uganda, drawing on 16,410 observations of 530 trees of 54 species located between 2066 and 2527 m in elevation. The park's climate is equatorial with two wet and dry seasons each year. Flowering and fruiting were strongly seasonal while patterns in leafing were less pronounced. Flower occurrence peaked at the beginning of the short dry season followed by a pronounced trough during the beginning and the middle of the short wet season. Fruit occurrence had a pronounced peak during high rainfall months in March through April with most fruits ripening during drier months in May through July. Fruit scarcity was observed for a 4-month period spanning September to December and most flushing of leaves noted at the end of the wet season in November and December. Our binomial generalized linear mixed models indicated that flowering and fruiting were negatively associated with temperature and that leafing activity was positively associated with rainfall and temperature. These findings are consistent with the insolation- and water-limitation hypotheses suggesting that the seasonally varying availability of resources such as light, water, and nutrients determines these phenological patterns. Ideally, prolonged, multi-year community-level studies would be supported so as to better characterize the influence of climate and of climate variability. 相似文献

The recovery process of aSasa tsuboiana population after a mass flowering and death in 1977 was investigated by 15 years of observation in the Hira Mountains, Kinki
district, western Japan. Seed production was high (6600–13 800 seeds m−2 inSasa plots and 3900 seeds m−2 in a forest plot) but emergent seedling density was low (14–21 seedlings m−2), probably because of seed predation byMicrotus montebelli occurring between seed shedding and the next spring. The seedling density had decreased further by the next year and theS. tsuboiana population recovered from only a limited number of seedlings. In spite of such a low initial density, theS. tsuboiana population was able to regenerate successfully and attained the previous full stand height in 7–16 years.Miscantbus sinensis invaded and delayed the recovery ofS. tsuboiana in one plot, butS. tsuboiana became dominant as it caught up with the height ofM. sinensis. Bletilla striata (Thunb.) Reichb.f. is a perennial herb with abundant active ingredients. Previous research mainly focused on its tubers, however, the study on flowers, especially the variation of active ingredient contents at different flowering stages, was rarely seen. This study analyzed the total phenols, flavonoids, polysaccharides, anthocyanins, and cyanidin-3-O-glucoside content of B. striata flowers which were in cultivated in Herb Garden of Zhejiang A&F University and collected in May, 2019, in order to investigate the changes in active ingredients and antioxidant capacity among different flowering stages (bud, initial, and full bloom). Changes in radical scavenging capability of DPPH (1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical), ABTS (2,2′-azinobis(3-ethylbenzthiazoline-6-sulphonate)), and hydroxy were analyzed. Significant differences in active ingredient content of flowers were detected among different flowering stages. The total phenolic content increased continuously during the entire flowering stage. The contents of total flavonoid, total polysaccharide, and cyanidin-3-O-glucoside reached peaks at the initial blooming stage and then fell as the flowering process continued. The antioxidant activity in initial stage was the highest than in any other flowering stages. Therefore, we conclude that the initial blooming stage is the best harvesting stage of B. striata flowers. This study provides a robust basis for the harvest and utilization of B. striata flowers in food, medical, and cosmetic industries. 相似文献

为了解珍稀濒危植物细果秤锤树(Sinojackia microcarpa)开花特征和有性繁殖,对其花部形态特征、开花动态、花粉胚珠比(P/O)、柱头可授性、花粉活力、套袋试验、访花昆虫及访花频率进行观测。结果表明:(1)细果秤锤树的杂交指数(OCI)为4,单花期5~7 d,种群花期可持续20 d左右。花粉与胚珠比为4 093.21±498.56。开花后第3天的花粉活力最高(76.21%),而开花后第7天时花粉活力较低(18.37%)。细果秤锤树柱头最适可授期在开花后第2天。(2)套袋试验表明,细果秤锤树存在部分自交不亲和性,同时不存在无融合生殖,传粉昆虫是其完成生殖过程所必需的,且异株授粉能够提高其坐果率和结籽率。细果秤锤树的访花昆虫有3目5科7种,主要访花昆虫有黄胸木蜂(Xylocopa appendiculata)、熊蜂(Bombus sp.)、胡蜂(Vespa sp.)、中华蜜蜂(Apis cerana)、黑带食蚜蝇(Episyrphus balteatus)、其中熊蜂平均访花频率最高,达(8.67±0.21) 次·h-1。对该物种开花生物学特征与繁育系统进行深入研究,有利于进一步探究其濒危机制,为后续珍稀濒危植物的研究提供理论依据和参考。 相似文献

Abstract Variability in spatial and temporal patterning of flowering by populations of rainforest trees fed upon by honeyeaters and flower-visiting parrots was studied for 2 years in lowland tropical hill forest in Papua New Guinea. All 2200 trees in a 3 ha plot were tagged, identified, mapped and monitored monthly. Of 274 tree species present, 86 flowered during the course of the study; during any given month, approximately 20% of the species flowering that month were visited by nectarivorous birds. Results showed that overall flower resources (total number of species, and number of bird-pollinated species, individuals and flowers) fluctuated during the year, decreased during the dry season and increased during the wet season. In addition, there was a wide range of temporal variation within and among tree species in length and timing of flowering period, percentage of each conspecific population flowering from year to year, and degree of synchrony among flowering conspecifics. Spatial dispersion of tree populations also varied, from clumps to scattered single individuals. Resident bird species were correlated with synchronously flowering trees, whereas nomadic bird species were correlated with asynchronously flowering trees. Resident birds were also associated with smaller blooming displays per tree, whereas nomadic birds were associated with trees that bloomed massively. There was no correlation between avian nomadism and spatial dispersion of tree populations. The vegetative-to-floral transition ofBrassica campestris cv. Osome was induced by vernalization. Poly(A)+RNA was isolated from the transition shoot apex after 6 weeks of vernalization, the floral apex after 12 weeks of vernalization and the expanded leaves just before vernalization, and cDNAs were synthesized. These cDNAs were used for subtraction and differential screening to select cDNA preferentially present in the transition and floral apices. Nucleotide sequences of the resulting 14 cDNA clones were determined, and northern blot analysis was carried out on six cDNAs. Two cDNA clones which did not show significant similarity to known genes were shown to be preferentially expressed in the floral apex. 相似文献
