Insects respond to very low levels of nutritional and non‐nutritional compounds in plants, which influence their acceptance and colonisation of the plant or plant part, and thereby their growth and development. Plant nutrient levels can vary within and between plants, and are influenced by external factors such as fertiliser treatments, irrigation regime, and light. Soil levels of nitrogen, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, and magnesium can have significant effects on the amounts of these nutrients in the plant, and thereby on pest infestation. This study reports on the influence of seven different NPK fertiliser rates in potted potato (Solanum tuberosum cv. Mondial) plants on the nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and magnesium levels in the leaves, and the concomitant influence on infestation by, and development of, the serpentine leafminer, Liriomyza trifolii Burgess (Diptera: Agromyzidae). Results showed that increases in nitrogen in the potato leaves increased larval and pupal survival, and pupal and adult body weight and length. Potassium and phosphorus, on the other hand, decreased the host suitability of potato plants to L. trifolii, and were detrimental to the pest.  相似文献

The aim of this study is to propose national diagnostic reference levels (DRL) for updating in the field of interventional cardiology and to include technical details to help plan optimization.Medical physics experts and interventional cardiologists from 14 hospitals provided patient dose indicators from coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary interventions. Information about X-ray system dose settings and image quality was also provided.The dose values from 30,024 procedures and 26 interventional laboratories were recorded. The national DRLs proposed for coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary interventions were respectively 39 and 78 Gy·cm2 for air kerma area product (PKA), 530 and 1300 mGy for air kerma at reference point (Ka,r), 6.7 and 15 min of fluoroscopy time and 760 and 1300 cine images. 36% of the KAP meters required correction factors from 10 to 35%. The dose management systems should allow these corrections to be included automatically. The dose per image in cine in reference conditions differed in a factor of 5.5.Including X-ray system dose settings in the methodology provides an insight into the differences between hospitals. The DRLs proposed for Spain in this work were similar to those proposed in the last European survey. The poor correlation between X-ray systems dose settings and patient dose indicators highlights that other factors such as operation protocols and complexity may have more impact in patient dose indicators, which allows a wide margin for optimization. Dose reduction technology together with appropriate training programs will be determinant in the future reduction of patient dose indicators.  相似文献

Mevalonate pathway deregulation has been observed in several diseases, including Mevalonate kinase deficiency (MKD). MKD is a hereditary auto-inflammatory disorder, due to mutations at mevalonate kinase gene (MVK), encoding mevalonate kinase (MK) enzyme. MVK mutations have been reported as associated with impairment of mevalonate pathway with consequent decrease of protein prenylation levels, defective autophagy and increase of IL-1β secretion, followed by cell death. Since 25-hydroxycholesterol (25-HC), a metabolite of cholesterol, can suppress IL-1β production, thus reducing inflammation, we evaluated the effect of 25-HC in an in vitro model of mevalonate pathway alteration, obtained using Lovastatin. Human glioblastoma cell line (U87-MG) was chosen to mimic, at least in part, the central nervous system impairment observed in MKD; 25-HC effects were evaluated aimed at disclosing if this compound could be considered as novel potential drug for MKD.Our results showed that 25-HC is able to reduce inflammation but it is ineffective to restore autophagy flux and to decrease apoptosis levels, both caused by lower protein prenylation; so, in spite of its anti-inflammatory action it is not useful to rescue defective prenylation/autophagy impairment-driven apoptosis in Lovastatin impaired mevalonate pathway.We hypothesize the presence in the mevalonate pathway of alternative mechanisms acting between inflammation and apoptotic autophagy impairment.  相似文献

Frequencies of sister chromatid exchanges and chromosomal aberrations were examined in peripheral lymphocytes of Rhesus monkeys which had been fed a diet containing 25 parts per trillion 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzop-dioxin for a period of 4 years. When compared to non-exposed control animals, no significant differences were noted for either of these cytogenetic endpoints. In addition; there was not a significant difference in sister chromatid exchange response to a challenge dose of mitomycin C in cells from 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzop-dioxin exposed animals compared to controls. Water samples were collected from unpolluted waters in southern and northern Sweden to show the range of natural trace metal concentrations. The results do not indicate any significant differences in metal levels between the two study areas. Negative correlations with pH exist for total concentrations of Cd, Pb, Al, Mn and Zn. The dissolved (dialysable) metal fractions also increase with increasing acidity. The concentration of humic substances influences the distribution of Fe, Mn, Al, Pb, Cr, Co and As, as shown by positive correlations with water colour.Increasing alkalinity has a limiting effect upon concentrations and annual fluctuations of Cd and Pb, and to some extent on Zn, in running waters.  相似文献

Oat polysomes direct the synthesisin vitro of a large number of products, the majority of which are the salt-soluble globulins (1,3,10,11,21). Total RNA or poly A+ RNA isolated from these polysomes directs the synthesis of the same number and types of products; however, the amount of globulins synthesized no longer represents the major products; rather, there is a decreased level of globulins and an increased amount of the other products synthesizedin vitro (6, 18). These results imply that the translational control can dictate final product levels. Reconstruction experiments using oat poly A+ mRNA and polysomal factors that are made free of endogenous RNA by nuclease digestion demonstrate that these factors do influence the translational specificity of oat globulin mRNA relative to other mRNAs. It is suggested that translational control is partially responsible for the levels of globulin in the mature grain.  相似文献

The in vivo effects of beta-bungarotoxin (beta-BT) on the acetylcholine (ACh) system were studied in the whole cerebrum and in different brain regions. The effect of beta-BT on cerebral ACh and choline (Ch) contents was time-dependent. The results show that a single intracerebroventricular injection of 1 microgram toxin increased both the ACh and Ch contents in the cortex, hippocampus, and cerebellum, while in the striatum the ACh level was decreased. Ten nanograms of toxin injected into the lateral ventricle twice, on the first and third days, led to a reduced ACh level 2 days after the last treatment. In animals treated with the same dose three times, on the first, third, and fifth days, and sacrificed 2 days after the last injection, the choline acetyltransferase and acetylcholinesterase activities were reduced and the number of muscarinic acetylcholine receptors was decreased. A biphasic effect of the toxin was therefore demonstrated. It is suggested that in the first phase of the toxin effect the increased levels of ACh and Ch may be due to the inhibition of neuronal transmission, while in the second phase, when the elements of the ACh system are reduced, the neuronal degenerating effect of beta-BT plays a significant role.  相似文献

Induced ovulators, such as the koala, do not always have overt signs of estrus, which makes pairing these animals for breeding purposes difficult to achieve in a zoo setting. This study examined the possibility of using alternative methods to behavioral sampling and weight fluctuations for monitoring estrus in a female koala of reproductive age. We attempt to gain an improved understanding of koala estrus and enhance our ability to detect it by combining a noninvasive technique for hormone analysis with a newer method for recording activity level. The findings suggest that activity levels were accurately measured using an accelerometer and increased activity was associated with one estrus behavior, bellowing. Weekly weight declines occur with increases in activity registered from the accelerometer. We also validated an assay to detect progesterone and estradiol in female koala urine in an attempt to detect an estrus spike. However, neither urinary concentrations of estradiol nor progesterone was associated with behavioral cues of estrus in our subject. We suggest that increased female activity, bellowing, and weight loss all indicate a pro-estrus state that requires proper male stimulation in order to achieve a full estrus display. Inhibition by lead of erythrocyte pyrimidine 5′-nucleotidase (P5N) is thought to contribute to morphological abnormalities observed in red blood cells (RBC) of lead-exposed subjects. However, neither the mechanism of lead inhibition of P5N nor the relationship of this inhibition to blood lead levels attained in exposed subjects is known. In the present investigation, acute in vivo and in vitro lead acetate effects on erythrocyte P5N from 21-day-old rat pups were determined and were related to blood lead concentrations ascertained by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Acute lead administration to rat pups resulted in a 16% to 21% reduction in erythrocyte P5N, with mean blood lead levels ranging from 77 to 108 μg/dl 24 hours later. Inhibition of erythrocyte P5N was linearly related to blood lead level (r = ?0.67, P < 0.05) following acute lead administration. Lead acetate addition to RBC preparations from 21-day-old rats resulted in concentration-dependent P5N inhibition which was comparable to that produced following acute in vivo exposure. The results indicate that acute P5N inhibition in lead-treated neonatal rats is due to noncompetitive P5N inhibition by lead. The inhibition of P5N produced by acute lead treatment is linearly related to blood lead concentrations.  相似文献
