In this study the long-term effects of morphine sulphate treatment (MST) on histopathological and biochemical changes in the cerebellum was assessed in albino rats. Normal saline (5 ml) was given orally as placebo in the control group (n = 25). Morphine groups received morphine orally at a dose level of 5 mg/kg body weight day after day for 10, 20 and 30 days (n = 25/group). Light microscopy revealed that the molecular layer showed vacuolation. The Purkinje cells lost their specific shaped appearance, decreased in size and numbers. The granular cells highly degenerated. Electron microscopy revealed fragmentation of the cisterns of the both types of endoplasmic reticulum, resulted in a progressive depletion of total protein contents as well as general carbohydrates in all treated groups as supported by histochemical observation. Obvious destruction of mitochondrial inner membrane and cristae mediate cell death. Also, abnormal nucleus with deformed perforated nuclear membrane and deformation of the plasma membrane with degeneration of the synapses could interpreted as a sign of necrosis. Biochemical analysis revealed that dopamine (DA) and norepinephrine (NE) were significantly decreased in four brain areas (cortex striatum, thalamus/hypothalamus, and cerebellum). In contrast, serotonin (5-HT) level was increased in these brain regions; with an exception of 5-HT on day 10 and neurotransmitter levels in the pons were unaffected. The quantitative analysis showed a significant decrease (P < 0.05) in the diameter of Purkinje cells and in the thickness of both molecular and granular layers treated groups. Morphine sulphate induces may be a cell death or necrosis in the rat cerebellum and modulating neurotransmitter system. Aluminum (Al) determination in human lung tissue, in chemicals for dialysis fluids, and in commercially available dialysis
solutions is carried out using both Instrumental and Radiochemical Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA and RNAA). For some matrices,
pre-and post-irradiation Al separations are tested.
Chelex 100 resin and HDEHP, this latter adsorbed both on teflon and polyurethane foam, are employed for the pre-irradiation
Al separations.
The postirradiation procedures are performed using roughly the same schemes; the conventional Al precipitation as hydroxide
is also carried out.
Al values found in lungs of workers exposed to Al containing dust appear to be much higher than those found for unexposed
people. Chemicals analyzed seem pure enough to give suitable dialysis solutions; for commercially available dialysis fluids,

Summary Two shrub species, dominant in western Patagonia, Argentina, exhibited different demographic behaviors under the effect of sheep grazing and of manipulated resource levels. Senecio filaginoides showed an increase in cover under increasing grazing pressures; the rise was explained by an increasing number of individuals and not by larger plants; this trend was reversed when no grazing took place. Mulinum spinosum showed a slight decrease in cover and density at increasing grazing pressures, and no change in plant size. In a field experiment in which water was added (30 mm in early summer) and the dominant grasses removed, both factors substantially augmented the number of 1-year-old seedlings of Senecio recruited; the only noticeable response of Mulinum was an increase in seedling emergence because of grass removal. Six years after this last treatment, Senecio exhibited a ten fold increase in density, and its population structure showed a peak in younger classes; Mulinum remained unaffected. In seedling surveys conducted within an exclsure and in its surroundings, the emergence of Senecio was similar in these areas in the two years of the study, whereas the emergence of Mulinum was higher inside the exclosure for one of the years. The emergence of Senecio in the wetter year was 3 times larger than in the drier one. Grazing did not affect first-year survival of any species; the major source of seedlign death in this case, as well as in the manipulative experiment, was desiccation during summer drought. We conclude that the contrasting responses of the two species to grazing are mostly due to the greater ability of Senecio to benefit from any increase in resources, including those not used by grazed plants. The difference might also be due to a reduction in the seed availability of Mulinum caused by sheep preference for its fruits. The dissimilar abilities of the two shrubs to employ the resources freed by grazing would derive more from their contrasting demographic potential (i.e. the ability to rapidly increase biomass/m2) than from a difference in their niche overlap with palatable species. 相似文献

Hyperzincemia has been reported to cause alterations in the homeostasis of glycid metabolism. To determine this effect on
plasma glucose and insulin levels, we studied 36 normal individuals of both sexes aged 22–26 y after a 12-h fast. The tests
were initiated at 7:00am when an antecubital vein was punctured and a device for infusion was installed and maintained with physiological saline.
Zinc was administered orally at 8:00am. Subjects were divided into an experimental group of 22 individuals who received doses of 25, 37.5, and 50 mg of zinc and
a control group of 14 individuals. Blood samples were collected over a period of 240 min after the basal samples (−30 and
0 min). We did not detect any change in plasma glucose or insulin levels, a fact that we attribute either to the ineffectiveness
of the 50 mg dose of zinc or to the lack of human response to the acute action of this trace element. The individuals who
ingested zinc showed a significant fall in plasma cortisol, probably caused by the action of this trace element. 相似文献

Historical aerial photography over closed basins enables the observation of lake surfaces at variable water levels and climatic conditions. Thus, the assessment at the landscape level of subtle variations in inundated areas depends on a suitable framework for processing historical imagery, frequently available at different scales and resolutions.The present paper deals with Lake Patzcuaro as a case study and the application of three analytical procedures to remote sensed data of 1974, including two maps commercially available and nine aerial photographs. Computer-based processing of images and further incorporation into GIS led to three different outputs: topographic map (TM-GIS), photomosaic 1 (P1) and photomosaic 2 (P2). Aerial photographs assemblages were georeferenced by means of GCP's, 86 located by means of INEGI vectorial polygons (P1), and 40 determined directly at the field by GPS (P2).In conclusion, TM-GIS lack of photointerpretation for the lake as an image derived from a topographic map; while P2 involved an unacceptable RMS. P1 thus became the best option for the calculation of areas not only because of the lower RMS associated, but the additional photointerpretation of limnological zones exclusive to aerial photographs. As a background picture, P1 also facilitates the analysis of historical images on a comparative basis. 相似文献

Sarotherodon mossambicus Peters was exposed to naphthalene concentrations ranging from 7.9 to 0.92 mg/l for periods ranging from 4 days to 10 weeks
and changes in glycogen, glucose, pyruvic acid and lactic acid contents of liver and muscle were studied. While glucose levels
remained unaffected, major effects could be seen in the other constituents following both lethal and sublethal naphthalene
treatment. Whereas glycogen and pyruvic acid levels showed considerable reduction, lactic acid levels increased markedly.
These changes are indicative of a metabolic stress leading to a shift to anaerobic metabolism. The effects do not appear to
be related to the feeding and growth rates of the naphthalene-intoxicated fish. 相似文献

Treatment of Friend erythroleukemia cells with several different chemical agents causes an early decrease in the 86Rb+ influx mediated by Na+/K+ adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase). These agents, which induced Friend cells to differentiate, include dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), ouabain, hypoxanthine, and actinomycin D. The magnitude of the early decrease in 86Rb+ influx correlates with the proportion of cells in cultures of inducible Friend cell clones which later go on to synthesize hemoglobin. Compounds which do not incude differentiation in these cells, such as xanthine, exogenous hematin, and erythropoietin, do not cause a change in 86Rb+ influx. A change in the intracellular K+ ion concentration does not occur during induction by DMSO because, although there is a decrease in K+ content per cell soon after induction, there is a parallel decrease in cell volume. These results and previous observations from this laboratory are discussed in terms of the posible involvement of the Na+/K+ ATPase in Friend cell differentiation. 相似文献
