Mechanically underdamped electrostatic fringing-field MEMS actuators are well known for their fast switching operation in response to a unit step input bias voltage. However, the tradeoff for the improved switching performance is a relatively long settling time to reach each gap height in response to various applied voltages. Transient applied bias waveforms are employed to facilitate reduced switching times for electrostatic fringing-field MEMS actuators with high mechanical quality factors. Removing the underlying substrate of the fringing-field actuator creates the low mechanical damping environment necessary to effectively test the concept. The removal of the underlying substrate also a has substantial improvement on the reliability performance of the device in regards to failure due to stiction. Although DC-dynamic biasing is useful in improving settling time, the required slew rates for typical MEMS devices may place aggressive requirements on the charge pumps for fully-integrated on-chip designs. Additionally, there may be challenges integrating the substrate removal step into the back-end-of-line commercial CMOS processing steps. Experimental validation of fabricated actuators demonstrates an improvement of 50x in switching time when compared to conventional step biasing results. Compared to theoretical calculations, the experimental results are in good agreement.  相似文献

Fourier transform ir spectra have been recorded for three 310‐helical and one α‐helical pentapeptides containing dehydrophenylalanine, in a thin solid film, in order to find marker bands for various secondary structures encountered in peptides containing dehydroaminoacids. The peptide solutions were deposited and dried as thin film on zinc selenide crystal surface. This convenient sampling method has provided reliable estimates of peptide secondary structure in solid state. Detailed vibrational assignments in the spectral region between 1200–1700 cm−1 are reported. In this region, peptide amide I, II, and III vibrations occur. Spectra–structure correlation has been presented based on the amide modes. Comparison of the ir spectra with available crystal structure data provides qualitative support for assignments of ir bands to 310‐helical structure and α‐helical structure in dehydrophenylalanine containing pentapeptides. Band frequency assignments for 310‐helical conformation are consistent for all three peptides. All the assignments agree closely with the theoretical predictions. The spectral differences between 310‐helical peptides and the α‐helical peptide have been highlighted. These findings demonstrate that a method based on ir spectroscopy can be developed for a useful approximation of three‐dimensional structure of dehydropeptides in solid state. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. The ecofriendly ternary blend polymer film was prepared from the chitosan (CH), polylactic acid (PLA) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA). Immobilization of Candida cylindracea lipase (CCL) was carried out on ternary blend polymer via entrapment methodology. The ternary blend polymer and immobilized biocatalyst were characterized by using N2 adsorption–desorption isotherm, SEM, FTIR, DSC, and (%) water content analysis through Karl Fischer technique. Biocatalyst was then subjected for the determination of practical immobilization yield, protein loading and specific activity. Immobilized biocatalyst was further applied for the determination of biocatalytic activity for N-acylation reactions. Various reaction parameters were studied such as effect of immobilization support (ratio of PLA:PVA:CH), molar ratio (dibutylamine:vinyl acetate), solvent, biocatalyst loading, time, temperature, and orbital speed rotation. The developed protocol was then applied for the N-acylation reactions to synthesize several industrially important acetamides with excellent yields. Interestingly, immobilized lipase showed fivefold higher catalytic activity and better thermal stability than the crude extract lipase CCL. Furthermore various kinetic and thermodynamic parameters were studied and the biocatalyst was efficiently recycled for four successive reuses. It is noteworthy to mention that immobilized biocatalyst was stable for period of 300 days.  相似文献

The linear dichroism of single monolayers of lutein, zeaxanthin and a mixture of lutein and synthetic phosphatidylcholine has been measured. The angle of orientation of the carotenoid molecules was found to lie between 45° and 51° relative to the plane of the solid support. Although the adsorbed monolayers were mostly in a monomeric state, microscopic observations, as well as the II-A isotherms, indicated the existence of crystalline islets. The results have been interpreted in connection with Haidinger's polarization brushes.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the nature of film formation on tablets with different compositions, using confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM), and to measure film adhesion via the application of a novel “magnet probe test”. Three excipients, microcrystalline cellulose (MCC), spray-dried lactose monohydrate, and dibasic calcium phosphate dihydrate, were individually blended with 0.5% magnesium stearate, as a lubricant, and 2.5% tetracycline HCl, as a fluorescent marker, and were compressed using a Carver press. Tablets were coated with a solution consisting of 7% hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) phthalate (HP-55), and 0.5% cetyl alcohl in acetone and isopropanol (11:9). The nature of polymer interaction with the tablets and coating was evaluated using CLSM and a designed magnet probe test. CLSM images clearly showed coating efficiency, thickness, and uniformity of film formation, and the extent of drug migration into the film at the coating interfaces of tablets. Among the excipients, MCC demonstrated the best interface for both film formation and uniformity in thickness relative to lactose monohydrate and dibasic calcium phosphate dihydrate. The detachment force of the coating layers from the tablet surfaces, as measured with the developed magnet probe test, was in the order of MCC>lactose monohydrate>dibasic calcium phosphate dihydrate. It was also shown that the designed magnet probe test provides reliable and reproducible results when used for measurement of film adhesion and bonding strength.  相似文献

A micro-capillary film has been developed that offers the potential for an at-line analytical tool for rapid aggregate analysis during biopharmaceutical antibody production. A non-porous walled micro-capillary film (NMCF) with cation exchange functionality was demonstrated to act as a chromatography medium that could be operated with high linear fluid velocities and was highly resistant to blockage by entrained particulates, including cells. The NMCF containing 19 parallel microcapillaries was prepared using a melt extrusion process from poly(ethylene-vinyl alcohol) copolymer (EVOH). The NMCF-EVOH was modified to have cation-exchange functionality (NMCF-EVOH-SP) and shown to differentially bind monomer and aggregated species of IgG antibody directly from a bioreactor. The use of NMCF-EVOH-SP to quantify aggregate concentrations in monoclonal antibody preparations in less than 20 minutes was demonstrated.  相似文献

This paper analyzes the immensely popular animated film Ratatouille as a social and cultural document. It begins with a recapitulation of the movie's story line – a saga of an astute, ambitious and talented rat, who becomes transformed into an accomplished haute cuisine chef. The film illustrates recent anthropological writings on the central role of cooking in human evolution. It also shows how varieties of cooking and table manners provide key indications of the civilizing process. Ultimately, Ratatouille explores distinctions and similarities between “man and beast”.
