The relationship between biodiversity and productivity has stimulated an increasing body of research over the past decades, and this topic still occupies a central place in ecology. While most studies have focused on biomass production in quadrats or plots, few have investigated the scale‐dependent relationship from an individual plant perspective. We present an analysis of the effects of biodiversity (species diversity and functional diversity) on individual tree growth with a data set of 16,060 growth records from a 30‐ha temperate forest plot using spatially explicit individual tree‐based methods. A significant relationship between species diversity and tree growth was found at the individual tree level in our study. The magnitude and direction of biodiversity effects varies with the spatial scale. We found positive effects of species diversity on tree growth at scales exceeding 9 m. Individual tree growth rates increased when there was a greater diversity of species in the neighborhood of the focal tree, which provides evidence of a niche complementarity effect. At small scales (3–5 m), species diversity had negative effects on tree growth, suggesting that competition is more prevalent than complementarity or facilitation in these close neighborhoods. The results also revealed many confounding factors which influence tree growth, such as elevation and available sun light. We conclude that the use of individual tree‐based methods may lead to a better understanding of the biodiversity‐productivity relationship in forest communities. 相似文献

The length-weight relationships (LWRs) of six Nemacheilid species (Schistura chindwinica, S. fasciata, S. khugae, S. minuta, S. reticulata and S. rubrimaculata) have been analyzed. Fish samples were collected on quarterly basis from March 2018 to February 2019. Sampling was performed using cast nets (mesh size 5–10 mm; about 50 sq m area covered each time and water depth was 4 ft approx.), and electrofishing (Ultrasonic Inverter Electro Fisher, 24 volts, 4 m) in the day time. The total length (TL) of individual fish was measured to 0.1 cm with a digital caliper and body weights (BW) were measured to 0.001 g with digital electronic balances. The parameters for the LWR equations were calculated, and the respective statistics such as the 95% confidence interval for parameters “a” and “b” are provided as well as the coefficient of correlation. A cationic protonatable amine moiety on dopaminergic ligands forms a high affinity reinforced ionic bond with an anionic aspartic acid at position 3.32 of dopamine receptors. When present, catechol hydroxyls of the ligands form hydrogen bonds with serines at position 5.42, 5.43, and 5.46, and this network of hydrogen bonds serves to orient ligands in the binding-site crevice and increase their binding affinity. A steric clash between aromatic moieties of the ligands and aromatic amino acids of the receptor (e.g., H6.55, F6.52 or F6.51 and W6.48) is likely to be propagated in domino-like fashion along the length of TM6, which is believed to trigger activation of the receptor. Specifically, it is the change in the conformation of W6.48 from an orientation perpendicular to the plane of the lipid membrane to one that is parallel that is believed to result in activation. Molecular determinants that mediate the D4/D2-selectivity of many extremely D4-selective 1,4-DAP ligands, include a nonconserved cluster of bulky amino acids at the TM2/TM3 interface (positions 2.61, 3.28 and 3.29). 相似文献

Crystals of 5‐fluorouridine (5FUrd) have unit cell dimensions a = 7.716(1), b = 5.861(2), c = 13.041(1)Å, α = γ = 90°, β = 96.70° (1), space group P21, Z = 2, ρobs = 1.56 gm/c.c and ρcalc = 1574 gm/c.c The crystal structure was determined with diffractometric data and refined to a final reliability index of 0.042 for the observed 2205 reflections (I ≥ 3σ). The nucleoside has the anti conformation [χ = 53.1(4)°] with the furanose ring in the favorite C2′–endo conformation. The conformation across the sugar exocyclic bond is g+, with values of 49.1(4) and ? 69.3(4)° for Φθc and Φ∞ respectively. The pseudorotational amplitude τm is 34.5 (2) with a phase angle of 171.6(4)°. The crystal structure is stabilized by a network of N–H…O and O–H…O involving the N3 of the uracil base and the sugar O3′ and O2′ as donors and the O2 and O4 of the uracil base and O3′ oxygen as acceptors respectively. Fluorine is neither involved in the hydrogen bonding nor in the stacking interactions. Our studies of several 5‐fluorinated nucleosides show the following preferred conformational features: 1) the most favored anti conformation for the nucleoside [χ varies from ? 20 to + 60°] 2) an inverse correlation between the glycosyl bond distance and the χ angle 3) a wide variation of conformations of the sugar ranging froni C2′–endo through C3′–endo to C4′–exo 4) the preferred g+ across the exocyclic C4′–C5′ bond and 5) no role for the fluorine atom in the hydrogen bonding or base stacking interactions. 相似文献

Length weight relationships (LWRs) were estimated for four species of low value fishes that belongs to four families from the southwest coast of India. The specimens of, Callionymus margaretae, Dactyloptena peterseni, Rogadius serratus and Minous inermis were collected for a period of 1 year from the fishing trawlers of Cochin Fisheries Harbour (Lat. 09° 56′ 327″ N, Long. 76° 15′ 764″ E). The estimated allometric coefficient b values ranged from 2.5020 (Rogadius serratus) to 3.2438 (Dactyloptena peterseni) and r2 values ranged from 0.9492 (Rogadius serratus) to 0.9869 (Dactyloptena peterseni). All the LWRs were highly significant, with p < .001.This study provides the first estimate of LWRs for these low value by catch fish species. 相似文献

Abstract A total of 1599 stoats were collected from 14 study areas (including all 10 National Parks) from 1972 to 1976. Samples were larger in summer, and contained more females. Young stoats are born in September-October, and females reach adult weight by the following March, though males not until after August. There was significant geographic variation in the body size of adult stoats sampled: males from lowland podocarp/broadleaved forests averaged 3% smaller than males from upland beech forests in skull length, and 4% smaller in head-and-body length. This pattern was repeated, less clearly, in females and in young (approximately 2–5 months old). In contrast with stoats in Britain, assumed to be still the same size as the colonising stock introduced into New Zealand in 1884 and subsequently, males from lowland podocarp forests were unchanged or possibly smaller, and males from upland beech forests were larger; females were larger in all habitats. In males, the extent of geographic variation is almost as great in New Zealand as in the whole of continental Europe. Possible explanations of this pattern are discussed. 相似文献

Sigma-1 (σ1) affinities of methyl 2-(aminomethyl)-1-phenylcyclopropane-1-carboxylate (MAPCC) derivatives were modelled by the genetic algorithm with linear assignment of hypermolecular alignment of datasets (GALAHAD) and the comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA)/comparative molecular similarity indices analysis (CoMSIA) methods. GALAHAD was used for deriving the 3D pharmacophore pattern that encompasses the most potent σ1 ligands within this series. Five MAPCC derivatives with a high σ1 affinity were used for deriving this model. The obtained model included a nitrogen atom, the hydrophobes and the hydrogen bond acceptor features; it was able to identify other potent σ1 ligands. On the other hand, CoMFA and CoMSIA methods were used for deriving quantitative structure–activity relationship (QSAR) models. All QSAR models were trained with 17 compounds, after which they were evaluated for predictive ability with additional five compounds. The best QSAR model was obtained by using CoMSIA, including steric, electrostatic and hydrophobic fields, and had a good predictive quality according to both internal and external validation criteria. Conservation programs for breeding ducks in the Prairie Pothole Region (PPR) of the United States and Canada require effective means of evaluating and characterizing breeding habitat across large landscapes. Extensive surveys of the distribution of duck broods in late-summer could help identify wetland basins with greater probabilities of occupancy. Broods are difficult to detect, however, rendering presence–absence data from single-visit surveys difficult to interpret, particularly when probability of detection is related to habitat features. Multiple-visit occupancy surveys offer a potential solution. From 20 July to 5 August 2007–2009, we conducted a 3-visit survey of wetland basins located on 167 10.4-km2 study plots in the PPR. Our survey focused on broods of the 5 most common breeding duck species (Anas spp.). Our main objectives were to investigate ecological relationships between occupancy of wetland basins by broods and habitat characteristics and to examine if habitat-specific detection was of enough concern to warrant multi-survey approaches in the future. We surveyed 3,226 wetland basins during the study. Probability of occupancy of a wetland basin by a brood was positively related to the log of wet area for all 5 study species and was greater on wetlands located on plots with a greater proportion of herbaceous perennial cover for 4 of 5 species. For example, the median probability of occupancy for gadwall (Anas strepera) increased from 0.08 (90% Credible Interval [CrI]: 0.07, 0.10) to 0.28 (90% CrI: 0.23, 0.33) as wet area increased from 0.19 ha to 2.12 ha, and increased from 0.12 (90% CrI: 0.09, 0.16) to 0.20 (90% CrI: 0.16, 0.25) as proportion of perennial grass cover on the study plot increased from 0.03 to 0.99. Because occupancy and detection were both related to attributes of wetland basins, we concluded that the multiple-visit survey was a useful approach for identifying habitat relationships of duck broods. Our results indicated that most broods of the study species were found in 10.4-km2 landscapes with greater densities of small- to mid-sized wetland basins and a greater proportion of herbaceous perennial vegetation. Our study provided new empirical support that could be used to help target conservation actions to the most productive landscapes for breeding ducks. © 2012 The Wildlife Society. 相似文献
