The Gemigaya petroglyphs, in the area of Nakhichevan, are very important historical monuments. They are the only known ones of the ancient periods, dated from the IVth to the Ist millennium, and they constitute the main source for the scientific study of the creation and evolution of art in that area. This review deals with recent advances in the research of cytosolic non-enzymic proteins involved in the metabolism of lipophilic compounds. Emphasis is given to the important contribution of structural data in the understanding of the functional properties of these proteins and in the emergence of new protein families. The possibility that many of the 'cytosolic' proteins might be structure-bound and structure-forming in the living cell is discussed, with references to so far available structural data and to recent investigations on the architecture and biochemical composition of the cytoplasm. The aim of this review is to present in a condensed form (227 references) the evolution in the study of cytosolic proteins binding and transferring lipophilic compounds and to enable interested investigators to become aware of current concepts and perspectives in this active and steadily growing area of research.  相似文献

Several non-avian theropod dinosaurs, as well as some Mesozoic birds, have been reported from Southeast Asia. The fossils are dominantly found in northeastern Thailand, however, one bizarre theropod has been described from Laos, one theropod has been reported from Malaysia, and some avian and non-avian theropods have been recently reported from Myanmar. The temporal distribution of Southeast Asian theropods ranges from the Late Jurassic to the mid-Cretaceous. All non-avian theropod faunas from Southeast Asia consist of non-maniraptoran tetanurans. They show similarity to Chinese plus Japanese theropods during the Early Cretaceous in broad systematic terms. During this time, megaraptorans can be found only in Japan, Australia, Brazil, and possibly Thailand, whereas tyrannosauroids can be found in China, Europe, possibly Brazil and Australia. Spinosaurids, carcharodontosaurians, and some coelurosaurs such as ornithomimosaurs were almost cosmopolitan. Metriacanthosaurids, on the other hand, were endemic to Europe and Asia including China and Thailand during the Middle to Late Jurassic.  相似文献

Synthetic oestrogens such as diethylstilbestrol (DES) or 17-alpha-ethinylestradiol (EE) administered to pregnant women during numerous years were demonstrated as responsible of severe ravages for children. Regarding behavior disorders, works on mice or rat have shown the effects of these xeno-hormones used even at very weak dose, time of fetal exposition being crucial. Works are less numerous for humans but recent analysis of the spontaneous Hhorages cohort brings demonstrative data. Polymorphism and variations in gene expression provide the genetic basis for human variation. Allelic variation of gene expression, in particular, may play a crucial role in phenotypic variation and disease susceptibility. To identify genes with allelic expression in human cells, we genotyped genomic DNA and cDNA isolated from 31 immortalized B cell lines from three Centre d'Etude du Polymorphisme Humain (CEPH) families using high-density single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) chips containing 13,900 exonic SNPs. We identified seven SNPs in five genes with monoallelic expression, 146 SNPs in 125 genes with allelic imbalance in expression with preferentially higher expression of one allele in a heterozygous individual. The monoallelically expressed genes (ERAP2, MDGA1, LOC644422, SDCCAG3P1 and CLTCL1) were regulated by cis-acting, non-imprinted differential allelic control. In addition, all monoallelic gene expression patterns and allelic imbalances in gene expression in B cells were transmitted from parents to offspring in the pedigree, indicating genetic transmission of allelic gene expression. Furthermore, frequent allele substitution, probably due to RNA editing, was also observed in 21 genes in 23 SNPs as well as in 48 SNPs located in regions containing no known genes. In this study, we demonstrated that allelic gene expression is frequently observed in human B cells, and SNP chips are very useful tools for detecting allelic gene expression. Overall, our data provide a valuable framework for better understanding allelic gene expression in human B cells.  相似文献

A study of sea level fluctuation records based on foraminiferal assemblages was carried out for the first time in a sediment core taken at the Lac Retba edge. A total of 37 foraminifera species were collected along the core, among which most are known in the modern estuaries and lagoons of Senegal. A succession of four assemblages dominated by Ammonia parkinsoniana and A. tepida were identified; they correspond to different stages of evolution of the lake. The first association, at the base of the core, indicates a lagoon slightly opened to the sea and bordered with vegetation, under relatively humid climate. The second has the richest and most diversified microfauna with a high proportion of coastal, marine benthic and planktonic species (about 10%) that indicate a small coastal gulf bordered with mangroves. The third association is oligospecific and typical of a closed and hypersaline lagoon under a dry climate. The last association again contains coastal, marine benthic and scarce planktonic species (3%) indicating a change to a saltier and more open lagoon under dry climate. The disappearance of planktonic foraminifera at the top of the core indicates the closure of the lagoon. The biocenotic indicators are evidence for two marine intrusions that are referred to the Dakarian (3000 years B.P.) and Saint-Louisian (2140-680 years B.P.) stages of the Upper Holocene of the senegalo-mauritanian stratigraphic scale. Evidence of the Lac Retba closure since 680 years B. P. appears in the core by high reduction of foraminifers’ abundance and diversity absence of planktonic species, and salts precipitated at the bottom of the lake.  相似文献

Mammalian NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreductases such as human NQO1 act as inducers of apoptosis. Quinone reductases generated interest over the last decade due to their proposed function in the oxidative stress response. Furthermore, human NQO1 was reported to regulate p53 stability and p53-dependent apoptosis through regulation of cellular oxidation–reduction events. In this study, we have used low concentrations of hydrogen peroxide (0.4 and 0.6 mM) to induce apoptosis-like cell death in wild type, an LOT6 overexpressing and a Δ lot6 yeast strain to monitor cell survival. Using this approach, we demonstrate that yeast quinone reductase Lot6p, an orthologue of mammalian quinone reductases, plays a pivotal role in apoptosis-like cell death in Saccharomyces cerevisiae . Overexpression of LOT6 results in enhanced cell death, as shown by an investigation of the morphological hallmarks of apoptosis-like fragmentation of DNA and externalization of phosphatidylserine, whereas the deletion strain displays a deficiency in apoptosis-like cell death as compared with the wild type. Thus, we propose that Lot6p is directly involved in the control of the apoptosis-like cell death in yeast.  相似文献
