Synthetic N-acetyl-muramyl-l-alanyl-d-isoglutamine represents the minimal structure capable of duplicating the activity of mycobacteria in Freund's complete adjuvant. In contrast to mycobacterial adjuvant preparations, that function only in the form of water-in-oil emulsions, this compound and a second synthetic analog (N-acetyl-muramyl-l-alanyl-d-isoglutamic acid) augment the humoral immune responses of mice equally as well as aqueous solutions. Whereas N-acetyl-muramyl-l-alanyl-d-isoglutamic acid administered to guinea pigs in water-in-oil emulsion has no effect, N-acetyl-muramyl-l-alanyl-d-isoglutamine induces delayed hypersensitivity to ovalbumin and azobenezene-arsonate N-acetyl-l-tyrosine and increases the level of antibody against ovalbumin. Under these conditions, challenge with the synthetic adjuvants themselves evokes no skin responses. Moreover, Freund's complete adjuvant sensitizes guinea pigs to tuberculin and to native mycobacterial water-soluble adjuvant but not to the synthetic analogs.  相似文献

Four custom Axiom genotyping arrays were designed for a genome-wide association (GWA) study of 100,000 participants from the Kaiser Permanente Research Program on Genes, Environment and Health. The array optimized for individuals of European race/ethnicity was previously described. Here we detail the development of three additional microarrays optimized for individuals of East Asian, African American, and Latino race/ethnicity. For these arrays, we decreased redundancy of high-performing SNPs to increase SNP capacity. The East Asian array was designed using greedy pairwise SNP selection. However, removing SNPs from the target set based on imputation coverage is more efficient than pairwise tagging. Therefore, we developed a novel hybrid SNP selection method for the African American and Latino arrays utilizing rounds of greedy pairwise SNP selection, followed by removal from the target set of SNPs covered by imputation. The arrays provide excellent genome-wide coverage and are valuable additions for large-scale GWA studies.  相似文献

Implementations of the statutory UE requirements concerning ionizing radiation in the medical domain (96/29/Euratom, 13th May 1996; 97/43/Euratom, 30th June 1997) have changed quality control in medical imaging departments. In Luxembourg, the Ministry of Health and the “Union of Luxembourg Hospitals” have thus created a “Medical Physics Cell” (five Medical Physics experts). It is in charge of implementing a standardized program of Quality Assurance (QA) and radiation protection relative to patients as well as staffs, on a coordinated national basis, in all five in-hospital nuclear medicine departments of the country. The program distributes QA controls between three levels, various periodicities and degrees of expertise. It sensitizes staff and medical doctors by trainings and facilitates ISO accreditation. From 2002 to 2011, in all five in-hospital departments of nuclear medicine of a small country, image quality, radiation protection and reference values of each medical equipment were defined and implemented in a standard way. In 2011, the medical physics cell, the driving force leading to the institutionalization of the discipline within the nuclear medicine departments, is considered as a partner rather than as a control body by the teams in charge of the nuclear medicine departments.  相似文献

The study of prehistoric sites with lithic remains indicates that the occupation of continental Asia, notably India and China, seems to have taken place earlier than previously thought. However, this Early Pleistocene human dispersal out of Africa remains debatable for the Southeast of Asia, in spite of the discovery of original lithic assemblages on the Mekong terraces dated to the very beginning of the Middle Pleistocene in the centre of Cambodia, by Saurin and Carbonnel in the 1960–1970s. Although this fundamental lithic material has become a reference, it has not been subjected to renewed study of these artefacts over the past decades, and it is thus not possible, for the moment, to attribute it with certainty to a particular culture. In this paper, we present an analysis of the raw materials and a techno-typological study of a similar series of prehistoric tools gathered by one of us in order to bring to light new elements concerning the first Palaeolithic occupation of this region of the world.  相似文献

Allelic variation in gene expression is common in humans and this variation is associated with phenotypic variation. In this study, we employed high-density single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) chips containing 13,900 exonic SNPs to identify genes with allelic gene expression in cells from colorectal cancer cell lines. We found 2 monoallelically expressed genes (ERAP2 and MYLK4), 32 genes with an allelic imbalance in their expression, and 13 genes showing allele substitution by RNA editing. Among a total of 34 allelically expressed genes in colorectal cancer cells, 15 genes (44.1%) were associated with cis-acting eQTL, indicating that large portions of allelically expressed genes are regulated by cis-acting mechanisms of gene expression. In addition, potential regulatory variants present in the proximal promoter regions of genes showing either monoallelic expression or allelic imbalance were not tightly linked with coding SNPs, which were detected with allelic gene expression. These results suggest that multiple rare variants could be involved in the cis-acting regulatory mechanism of allelic gene expression. In the comparison with allelic gene expression data from Centre d'Etude du Polymorphisme Humain (CEPH) family B cells, 12 genes showed B-cell specific allelic imbalance and 1 noncoding SNP showed colorectal cancer cell-specific allelic imbalance. In addition, different patterns of allele substitution were observed between B cells and colorectal cancer cells. Overall, our study not only indicates that allelic gene expression is common in colorectal cancer cells, but our study also provides a better understanding of allele-specific gene expression in colorectal cancer cells.  相似文献

The “Grappin” or “Saint-Vincent's” cave, on the western slope of Jura, East of France, has been explored since 1889. From then to 1960, it has yielded substantial material dated to middle “à navettes” Magdalenian developing during the late Pleniglacial. The study of this settlement, although often mentioned, was never dealt with comprehensively until now. Due to its scientific importance for the middle Magdalenian of western Europe, the site is to be reinvestigated through a global interdisciplinary project entitled “The Tardiglacial and the start of Holocene in the Jura and its margins”. This paper will review our present knowledge of the site, radiocarbon dates and archaeological data. It also focuses on ornaments and engraved mobile art.  相似文献

The Jungwon region is located in the central part of Korea and it is one of crucial regions for understanding of the Korean Paleolithic culture. Many Paleolithic sites have been discovered in this region, from the lower Paleolithic to the upper Paleolithic. It is of interest the remarkable variety of archeological remains such as human bones, stone tools, animal bones and paleoenvironmental artifacts. As a result, it permits us to reconstruct the subsistence of prehistoric men. This region has an important role for Korean prehistoric researches.  相似文献
