Theoretical and eddy covariance studies demonstrate that aerosol‐loading stimulates canopy photosynthesis, but field evidence for the aerosol effect on tree growth is limited. Here, we measured in situ daily stem growth rates of aspen trees under a wide range of aerosol‐loading in China. The results showed that daily stem growth rates were positively correlated with aerosol‐loading, even at exceptionally high aerosol levels. Using structural equation modeling analysis, we showed that variations in stem growth rates can be largely attributed to two environmental variables covarying with aerosol loading: diffuse fraction of radiation and vapor pressure deficit (VPD). Furthermore, we found that these two factors influence stem growth by influencing photosynthesis from different parts of canopy. Using field observations and a mechanistic photosynthesis model, we demonstrate that photosynthetic rates of both sun and shade leaves increased under high aerosol‐loading conditions but for different reasons. For sun leaves, the photosynthetic increase was primarily attributed to the concurrent lower VPD; for shade leaves, the positive aerosol effect was tightly connected with increased diffuse light. Overall, our study provides the first field evidence of increased tree growth under high aerosol loading. We highlight the importance of understanding biophysical mechanisms of aerosol‐meteorology interactions, and incorporating the different pathways of aerosol effects into earth system models to improve the prediction of large‐scale aerosol impacts, and the associated vegetation‐mediated climate feedbacks.  相似文献

Objective

To report a case of primary diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma (DLBCL) of the maxillary sinus in an 82‐year‐old Caucasian woman.

Background

Diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma of the maxillary sinus has non‐specific signs and symptoms that may be confused with benign inflammatory conditions and upper respiratory infections.

Methods

An incisional biopsy was performed. CD20+/CD3/Ki‐67: 95% cells were observed.

Conclusion

A good medical history, clinical and imaging evaluations and immunohistochemical reactions are crucial to establish a correct and early diagnosis of DLBCL.  相似文献

Perennial bioenergy crops accumulate carbon (C) in soils through minimally disturbing management practices and large root inputs, but the mechanisms of microbial control over C dynamics under bioenergy crops have not been clarified. Root‐derived C inputs affect both soil microbial contribution to and degradation of soil organic matter resulting in differing soil organic carbon (SOC) concentrations, storage, and stabilities under different vegetation regimes. Here, we measured biomarker amino sugars and neutral sugars and used diffuse reflectance mid‐infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) to explore microbial C contributions, degradation ability, and SOC stability, respectively, under four potential bioenergy crops, Mgiganteus (Miscanthus × giganteus), switchgrass (Panicum virgatum L.), a mixed prairie, and a maize (Zea mays L.)–maize–soybean (Glycine max(L.) Merr.) (MMS) rotation over six growing seasons. Our results showed that SOC concentration (g/kg) increased by 10.6% in mixed prairie over the duration of this experiment and SOC storage (Mg/ha) increased by 17.0% and 15.6% in switchgrass and mixed prairie, respectively. Conversion of row crops to perennial grasses maintained SOC stability and increased bacterial residue contribution to SOC in Mgiganteus and switchgrass by 20.0% and 15.0%, respectively, after 6 years. Degradation of microbe‐derived labile SOC was increased in Mgiganteus, and degradation of both labile and stable SOC increased in MMS rotation. These results demonstrate that microbial communities under perennial grasses maintained SOC quality, while SOC quantity increased under switchgrass and mixed prairie. Annual MMS rotation displayed decreases in aspects of SOC quality without changes in SOC quantity. These findings have implications for understanding microbial control over soil C quantity and quality under land‐use shift from annual to perennial bioenergy cropping systems.  相似文献

Adipose tissue is a dynamic endocrine and paracrine organ producing a large number of signalling proteins collectively termed adipokines. Some of them are mediators in the cross‐talk between adipose tissue and the brain in regulating food intake and energy homoeostasis. However, the hypothalamus is not the only brain target for adipokines, and food intake is not the only biological effect of these signals. Rather, some adipokines support various cognitive functions and exert neurotrophic activity. Current data on adipose‐derived neuropeptides, neurotrophic factors, pituitary hormones and hypothalamic releasing factors is highlighted in this review. We propose that adipose tissue is a member of the diffuse neuroendocrine system. Cumulatively, this is conceptualized as neuroadipology, a new example of a link between neurobiology and other topics, such as neuroimmunology and neuroendocrinology. Because adipose tissue is a bona fide endocrine organ, neuroadipology may be considered a new discipline in neuroendocrinology. It may have a wide‐ranging potential within a variety of neuronal and metabolic functions in health and disease.  相似文献

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a frequent and clinically highly heterogeneous neurological disorder with large socioeconomic consequences. TBI severity classification, based on the hospital admission Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score, ranges from mild (GCS 13–15) and moderate (GCS 9–12) to severe (GCS ≤ 8). The GCS reflects the risk of dying from TBI, which is low after mild (∼1%), intermediate after moderate (up to 15%) and high (up to 40%) after severe TBI. Intracranial damage can be focal, such as epidural and subdural haematomas and parenchymal contusions, or diffuse, for example traumatic axonal injury and diffuse cerebral oedema, although this distinction is somewhat arbitrary. Study of the cellular and molecular post-traumatic processes is essential for the understanding of TBI pathophysiology but even more to find therapeutic targets for the development of neuroprotective drugs to be eventually used in human beings. To date, studies in vitro and in vivo, mainly in animals but also in human beings, are unravelling the pathological TBI mechanisms at high pace. Nevertheless, TBI pathophysiology is all but completely elucidated. Neuroprotective treatment studies in human beings have been disappointing thus far and have not resulted in commonly accepted drugs. This review presents an overview on the clinical aspects and the pathophysiology of focal and diffuse TBI, and it highlights several acknowledged important events that occur on molecular and cellular level after TBI.  相似文献

目的:探讨2-12烷基-6-甲氧基环己基-2,5-二烯-1,4-二酮(DMDD)抗弥漫大B淋巴瘤(DLBCL)的作用及分子机制。方法:动物实验取4周龄BALB/C小鼠,分5组,20只/组,腹股沟注射DLBCL细胞株OCI-LY19细胞1 × 107 cells/ml 每只0.1 ml,两天后分别灌胃0、1、5、25、125 mg/kg剂量的DMDD,1次/2天,给药的第18日,杀10只小鼠,取瘤组织称重,记录剩余小鼠的生存期。细胞实验取OCI-LY19细胞加入96孔培养板,每孔100 μl 1×105 cells/ml,分别加入100 μl DMDD使其终浓度分别为0、1、5、25和125 μmol/L,作用0、24、48和72 h,设三复孔,MTS法检测细胞增殖活性;根据细胞增殖实验结果,选择0 μmol/L、5 μmol/L和25 μmol/L的DMDD作为后续用药浓度作用OCI-LY19细胞24 h,流式细胞仪分析凋亡率,hoechst染色观察细胞核型,JC-1染色观察线粒体膜电位,LDH释放实验评估药物细胞毒性,qPCR、Western blot分析基因转录和表达水平。结果:动物实验表明:与0 mg/kg用药组比,1~125 mg/kg DMDD能抑制小鼠瘤组织生长并延长其生存期(P<0.01)。细胞实验表明:DMDD用药组OCI-LY19细胞增殖活性明显降低、凋亡水平显著增加(P<0.01),细胞核出现碎裂、凝集和凋亡小体及线粒体膜电位下降,LDH释放率显著增加(P<0.01),细胞内caspase-3和bax基因的转录表达和IκBα的磷酸化水平显著上调,bcl-2、bcl-xL、jak2和stat3基因的转录和蛋白表达水平明显受抑(P<0.01)。结论:DMDD通过抑制JAK2/STAT3和NF-κB信号通路中JAK2、STAT3和p-IκBα的表达,下调BCL-2/BAX、活化Caspase-3,最终激活OCI-LY19细胞线粒体凋亡的内源性通路而促进了DLBCL细胞凋亡,抑制了OCI-LY19细胞增殖,具有抗DLBCL的作用。  相似文献

Plant G proteins of the ROP/RAC family regulate cellular processes including cytoskeletal rearrangement in polar growth. Activation of the ROP molecular switch is triggered by guanine nucleotide exchange factors. Plant-specific RopGEFs are exclusively active on ROPs despite their high homology to animal Rho proteins. Based on a sequence comparison of ROPs vs. animal Rho proteins together with structural data on distinct ROPs, we identified unique substrate determinants of RopGEF specificity by mutational analysis: asparagine 68 next to switch II, arginine 76 of a putative phosphorylation motif and the Rho insert are essential for substrate recognition by RopGEFs. These data also provide first evidence for a function of the Rho insert in interactions with GEFs.  相似文献

The antiapoptotic, antioxidant, proliferative, and angiogenic effects of metallothionein (MT)-I+II has resulted in increased focus on their role in oncogenesis, tumor progression, therapy response, and patient prognosis. Studies have reported increased expression of MT-I+II mRNA and protein in various human cancers; such as breast, kidney, lung, nasopharynx, ovary, prostate, salivary gland, testes, urinary bladder, cervical, endometrial, skin carcinoma, melanoma, acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and pancreatic cancers, where MT-I+II expression is sometimes correlated to higher tumor grade/stage, chemotherapy/radiation resistance, and poor prognosis. However, MT-I+II are downregulated in other types of tumors (e.g. hepatocellular, gastric, colorectal, central nervous system (CNS), and thyroid cancers) where MT-I+II is either inversely correlated or unrelated to mortality. Large discrepancies exist between different tumor types, and no distinct and reliable association exists between MT-I+II expression in tumor tissues and prognosis and therapy resistance. Furthermore, a parallel has been drawn between MT-I+II expression as a potential marker for prognosis, and MT-I+II's role as oncogenic factors, without any direct evidence supporting such a parallel. This review aims at discussing the role of MT-I+II both as a prognostic marker for survival and therapy response, as well as for the hypothesized role of MT-I+II as causal oncogenes.  相似文献

A method that provides maps of absolute concentrations of oxygenated and deoxygenated myoglobin (Mb), its oxygenation, and its near-infrared (NIR) optical pathlength in cardiac tissue was developed. These parameters are available simultaneously. The method is based on NIR diffuse reflectance spectroscopic imaging and specific processing of the NIR images, which included a first derivative of the diffuse reflectance spectrum. Mb oxygenation, total Mb concentration, and NIR light pathlength were found to be in the range of 92%, 0.3 mM, and 12.5 mm, respectively, in beating isolated buffer-perfused and arrested pig hearts. The charge-coupled device camera enables sub-millimeter spatial resolution and spectroscopic imaging in 1.5 to 2.0 min. The technique is noninvasive and nondestructive. The equipment has no mechanical contact with the tissue of interest, leaving it undisturbed.  相似文献

Solar ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation penetrates plant canopies to a different degree than photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) because UV-B is diffused to a greater degree by the atmosphere. We measured both global (total) and diffuse solar radiation in canopy gaps of a semideciduous tropical forest in Panama. Measurements were simultaneously made in the UV-B and PAR wavebands. Compared to unobstructed measurements taken outside the forest, the sunlit portions of gaps were depleted in the proportion of UV-B relative to PAR, especially at midday. Shaded areas, in contrast, were always richer in UV-B relative to PAR, but the magnitude of the change varied greatly. Presumably this variation was due to the differences in the directional nature of diffuse solar UV-B radiation as compared to diffuse PAR. Measurements in the gaps showed substantial reductions in the proportion of radiation in the diffuse components of both the UV-B and PAR wavebands. However, because of the greater proportion of UV-B which is diffuse, it tended to predominate in shaded areas. Similar patterns were seen in measurements taken at temperate latitudes. Response of shade- and gap-dwelling plants to these high UV-B:PAR ratios has received little attention.  相似文献
