The K2S2O8 assisted photocatalytic system was applied for treating refractory petrochemical wastewater. Co-TiO2/zeolite catalyst synthesized by sol-gel method was demonstrated to possess a good activity towards mineralization of the refractory petrochemical wastewater in the K2S2O8 assisted photocatalytic system. Orthogonal design was employed to optimize the reaction parameters, according to the results, K2S2O8 dosage was the most prominent impact factor. More experiments were conducted to further enhance the COD removal efficiency. In consideration of both efficiency and costs, the petrochemical wastewater was treated in the K2S2O8 assisted photocatalytic system at pH 4, K2S2O8 dosage 2.03 g/L, catalyst amount 250 g/L with irradiation by 1 lamp and aeration. The COD removal efficiency reached up to 93.4% with a rate constant of 1.14 × 10−2 per min, and Co-TiO2/zeolite showed a good stability towards the K2S2O8 assisted photocatalytic degradation of petrochemical wastewater. 相似文献

The physiological regulation of mitochondrial respiration by NO has been reported to result from the reversible binding of NO to the two-electron reduced binuclear center (Fe(2+)(a3)-Cu(1+)(B)) of cytochrome c oxidase (CcO). Although the role of CcO and its derived catalytic intermediates in the catabolism of NO has been documented, little has been established for the enzyme in its fully oxidized state (Fe(3+)(a3)-Cu(2+)(B)). We report: (1) CcO, in its fully oxidized state, represents the major component of the mitochondrial electron transport chain for NO consumption as controlled by the binding of NO to its binuclear center. Phospholipid enhances NO consumption by fully oxidized CcO, whereas the consumption of NO is slowed down by membrane structure and membrane potential when CcO is embedded in the phospholipid bilayer. (2) In the presence of H(2)O(2), CcO was shown to serve as a mitochondria-derived NO peroxidase. Apolipoprotein L-I (APOL1) is a channel-forming effector of innate immunity. The common human APOL1 variant G0 provides protection against infection with certain Trypanosoma and Leishmania parasite species, but it cannot protect against the trypanosomes responsible for human African trypanosomiasis. Human APOL1 variants G1 and G2 protect against human-infective trypanosomes but also confer a higher risk of developing chronic kidney disease. Trypanosome-killing activity is dependent on the ability of APOL1 to insert into membranes at acidic pH and form pH-gated cation channels. We previously mapped the channel’s pore-lining region to the C-terminal domain (residues 332–398) and identified a membrane-insertion domain (MID, residues 177–228) that facilitates acidic pH-dependent membrane insertion. In this article, we further investigate structural determinants of cation channel formation by APOL1. Using a combination of site-directed mutagenesis and targeted chemical modification, our data indicate that the C-terminal heptad-repeat sequence (residues 368–395) is a bona fide leucine zipper domain (ZIP) that is required for cation channel formation as well as lysis of trypanosomes and mammalian cells. Using protein-wide cysteine-scanning mutagenesis, coupled with the substituted cysteine accessibility method, we determined that, in the open channel state, both the N-terminal domain and the C-terminal ZIP domain are exposed on the intralumenal/extracellular side of the membrane and provide evidence that each APOL1 monomer contributes four transmembrane domains to the open cation channel conformation. Based on these data, we propose an oligomeric topology model in which the open APOL1 cation channel is assembled from the coiled-coil association of C-terminal ZIP domains. 相似文献

The effects of lanthanum (III) (La(III)) in protecting soybean leaves against oxidative stress induced by ultraviolet-B (UV-B)
radiation were investigated. The increase in contents of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and superoxide () due to UV-B radiation suggested oxidative stress. The increase in the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) and the decrease
in the index of unsaturated fatty acid (IUFA) indicated oxidative damage on cell membrane induced by UV-B radiation. La(III)
partially reversed UV-B-radiation-induced damage of plant growth. The reduction in the contents of H2O2, , and MDA and increase in the content of IUFA, compared with UV-B treatment, also indicated that La(III) alleviated the oxidative
damage induced by UV-B radiation. The increase in the activities of superoxide dismutase and peroxidase and the contents of
ascorbate, carotinoids, and flavonoids were observed in soybean leaves with La(III) + UV-B treatment, compared with UV-B treatment.
Our data suggested that La(III) could protect soybean plants from UV-B-radiation-induced oxidative stress by reacting with

In this study, ten glutenin gene promoters were isolated from model wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv. Chinese Spring) using a genomic PCR strategy with gene-specific primers. Six belonged to high-molecular-weight glutenin subunit (HMW-GS) gene promoters, and four to low-molecular-weight glutenin subunit (LMW-GS). Sequence lengths varied from 1361 to 2554 bp. We show that the glutenin gene promoter motifs are conserved in diverse sequences in this study, with HMW-GS and LMW-GS gene promoters characterized by distinct conserved motif combinations. Our findings show that HMW-GS promoters contain more functional motifs in the distal region of the glutenin gene promoter (> − 700 bp) compared with LMW-GS. The y-type HMW-GS gene promoters possess unique motifs including RY repeat and as-2 box compared to the x-type. We also identified important motifs in the distal region of HMW-GS gene promoters including the 5′-UTR Py-rich stretch motif and the as-2 box motif. We found that cis-acting elements in the distal region of promoter 1Bx7 enhanced the expression of HMW-GS gene 1Bx7. Taken together, these data support efforts in designing molecular breeding strategies aiming to improve wheat quality. Michael Banton's paper provides fascinating insights into his long-running intellectual disagreements with John Rex, the other major post-war figure in the sociology of ‘race relations’. Published work and personal recollections are supplemented by a series of communications by letter to flesh out the precise nature of these debates. They reveal differing views on the ontological status of ‘race’, race relations and racism, as well as a number of criticisms of Rex's work. He argues that Rex was wrong to put so much faith in the ability of classical sociology to address these concerns, and that there was a disjuncture between theory, methods and substance in his empirical work. There is also a suggestion that Rex played down the significance of racism. Eu2+‐doped Sr2SiO4 phosphor with Ca2+/Zn2+ substitution, (Sr1–xMx)2SiO4:Eu2+ (M = Ca, Zn), was prepared using a high‐temperature solid‐state reaction method. The structure and luminescence properties of Ca2+/Zn2+ partially substituted Sr2SiO4:Eu2+ phosphors were investigated in detail. With Ca2+ or Zn2+ added to the silicate host, the crystal phase could be transformed between the α‐form and the β‐form of the Sr2SiO4 structure. Under UV excitation at 367 nm, all samples exhibit a broad band emission from 420 to 680 nm due to the 4f65d1 → 4f7 transition of Eu2+ ions. The broad emission band consists of two peaks at 482 and 547 nm, which correspond to Eu2+ ions occupying the ten‐fold oxygen‐coordinated Sr.(I) site and the nine‐fold oxygen‐coordinated Sr.(II) site, respectively. The luminescence properties, including the intensity and lifetime of Sr2SiO4:Eu2+ phosphors, improved remarkably on Ca2+/Zn2+ addition, and promote its application in white light‐emitting diodes.
