Changes in epilithic algal communities colonizing introduced substrata were determined in a stream polluted with oil refinery
effluent at Digboi (Assam, India). The number of algal taxa was reduced but the growth of blue-green algae, particularly two
species ofOscillatoria, was encouraged. Epilithic biomass (as chlorophylla) also declined at polluted stations. The algal community of the upstream station was markedly different from the community
occurring just after the confluence of effluent; however, the differences were gradually reduced downstream, indicating improvement
in water quality. Of the various criteria tested for possible relationships with the level of pollutants, species richness,
Shannon diversity and biomass showed significant relationships. The study demonstrates the usefulness of algal criteria for

The amino acid leucine was transported by the cyanobacterium Anabaena variabilis. The K
m for transport was 10.8 M; the V
max was 8.7 nmoles min–1 mg–1 chlorophyll a. Transport of leucine was energy dependent: uptake of leucine was inhibited in the dark, and by DCMU and cyanide. Transport was neither dependent on nor enhanced by Na+. Prior growth of cells with leucine did not repress transport of [14C]-leucine. Alanine, glycine, valine, and methionine were strong competitive inhibitors of leucine uptake; serine, threonine, isoleucine, norleucine, and d-alanine competitively inhibited to a lesser degree. 采用 Tb~(3+)荧光探针和离子选择电极研究了电针和吗啡镇痛及镇痛耐受时,动物不同脑区游离 Ca~(2+)和线粒体膜结合 Ca~(2+)的变化。实验结果表明,电针和吗啡都有较强的镇痛作用,与此同时,导水管周围灰质和下丘脑的线粒体膜结合 Ca~(2+)升高。脑室内预注钌红,则能降低这两个脑区的线粒体膜结合 Ca~(2+)和痛阈。另一方面,在电针或吗啡耐受时,两脑区的游离 Ca~(2+)浓度增加,线粒体膜结合 Ca~(2+)降低。结果提示,神经细胞质膜内外 Ca~(2+)的移动可能在电针和吗啡镇痛中起某种调节作用。 相似文献

The ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase (Rubisco) large- and small-subunit genes are encoded on the chloroplast genome of the eukaryotic chromophytic alga Olisthodiscus luteus. Northern blot experiments indicate that both genes are co-transcribed into a single (>6 kb) mRNA molecule. Clones from the O. luteus rbc gene region were constructed with deleted 5 non-coding regions and placed under control of the lac promoter, resulting in the expression of high levels of O. luteus Rubisco large and small subunits in Escherichia coli. Sucrose gradient centrifugation of soluble extracts fractionated a minute amount of carboxylase activity that cosedimented with native hexadecameric O. luteus Rubisco. Most of the large subunit synthesized in E. coli appeared insoluble or formed an aggregate with the small subunit possessing an altered charge: mass ratio compared to the native holoenzyme. The presence in O. luteus of a polypeptide that has an identical molecular mass and cross reacts with antiserum generated against pea large-subunit binding protein may indicate that a protein of similar function is required for Rubisco assembly in O. luteus. 相似文献

The stomatal response to blue light (BL) in wheat seedlings ( Triticum aestivum L. cv. Starke II, Weibull) was enhanced by background red light (R). This enhancement was only slightly affected by the addition of background far-red light (FR). Under similar light treatments, the addition of FR induced a 43% transformation from the far-red-absorbing form towards the red-absorbing form of phytochrome from etiolated oat ( Avena sativa L. cv. Sol II), immobilized on phenyl-sepharose. Furthermore, the enhancement of the stomatal BL-response by 15 min R was not reversed by a subsequent irradiation with 5 min FR. It is concluded that the red-light-enhancement of the stomatal blue-light-response in wheat seedlings does not involve a change in the photostationary state of phytochrome. 相似文献

In crude extracts of the unicellular green alga Chlorella kessleri Fott et Novákóva grown in red light the activity of the glycolytic enzyme phosphofructokinase (PFK, EC 2.7.1.11) is about 40% higher compared to white light conditions giving the same dry matter production. Application of cycloheximide and density labelling with D2 O indicate that this increase depends on the de novo synthesis of the enzyme: Twelve h of illumination at a fluence rate of 7 × 1018 quanta m−2 s−1 (11.6 μmol m−2 s−1 ) suffice to saturate the effect. In autotrophically grown algae maximal increase in enzyme saturate the effect. In autotrophically grown algae maximal increase in enzyme activity is reached in light of 680 nm, while in 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethyl urea (DCMU)-poisoned, glucose-fed cells, light of wavelengths around 727 nm is most effective. Summary A systematic study was made of the action of 4-acetamido-4-isothiocyanostilbene-2,2-disulfonic acid (SITS) and 4,4-diisothiocyanostilbene-2,2-disulfonic acid (DIDS) on active Ca2+ transport of human erythrocytes. Pumping activity was estimated in inside-out vesicles (IOV's) by means of Ca2+-selective electrodes or use of tracer45Ca2+. The stilbenes exhibited an approximately equal inhibitory potency and their action could be overcome by carbonyl cyanidep-trifluoromethoxyphenylhydrazone (FCCP) at low but not at high stilbene concentrations. In the absence of DIDS. Ca2+ transport was not affected upon addition of valinomycin, but it was appreciably reduced when vesicles were preincubated with low DIDS concentrations. Such an effect was strictly dependent on the external K+ concentration and it was abolished when valinomycin was added together with FCCP. Similar results were obtained using IOV's prepared from intact cells which had been previously exposed to the stilbene. The findings clearly demonstrate the presence in human red cells of a partially electrogenic Ca2+ pump, exchanging one Ca2+ ion for one proton. 相似文献
