Background: P-selectin is an adhesion receptor expressed on activated platelets and endothelial cells. Its natural ligand, P-selectin glycoprotein ligand-1, is expressed on leucocytes and the P-selectin/PSGL-1 interaction is involved in leukocyte rolling. Mean settling velocity of granular sludge in full-scale UASB (upflow anaerobic sludge blanket) and EGSB (expanded granular sludge bed) reactors was evaluated by settling column tests, and a settling velocity model based on the experimental results and available literature data was developed. It is concluded that the settling velocity should be calculated by the Allen formula, because the settling process of the granules is in the category of intermediate flow regime rather than in the laminar flow one. The comparison between calculated and measured values of the settling velocity shows an excellent agreement, with an average relative error of 4.04%. A simple but reliable mathematical method to determine the settling velocity is therefore proposed. 相似文献

Every approach to lake restoration requires the reestablishment of submerged macrophytes. However, macrophyte overgrowth in shallow lakes may lead to deterioration and a consequent necessity for restoration treatments. We assumed that a major threat to the increased trophic level in the Jankovac flow-through system arises from the sediment, where the accumulation of deciduous leaf litter and decayed macrophyte fragments could generate anoxic conditions. The integrated Water Quality Model (WQM) and the Submerged Aquatic Vegetation Model (SAVM) were combined in the Jankovac Model (JanM) and applied during the vegetated season in 2008 and 2014, with the aim to offer a possible approach to the maintenance of good water quality. The impacts of flow velocity and epiphyton growth on submerged macrophyte coverage and biomass were simulated. Biocenotic analyses suggested that epiphyton growth was more extensive in 2014 in comparison to 2008. The results of JanM indicated that increased flow velocities enhanced macrophyte growth and dissolved oxygen concentrations concurrently with the decline of epiphyton biomass. Furthermore, results suggested that epiphyton growth rate of 0.4 d−1 maintained macrophyte coverage and biomass at a satisfactory level of 70% reservoir coverage. Considering the proposed scenarios hydraulic treatment could be applied to regulate submerged macrophytes in shallow reservoirs, as an efficient and less invasive approach than sediment removal, especially in sensitive karst areas. 相似文献

In Acanthamoeba castellanii mitochondria, the apparent affinity values of alternative oxidase for oxygen were much lower than those for cytochrome c oxidase. For unstimulated alternative oxidase, the KMox values were around 4-5 μM both in mitochondria oxidizing 1 mM external NADH or 10 mM succinate. For alternative oxidase fully stimulated by 1 mM GMP, the KKMox values were markedly different when compared to those in the absence of GMP and they varied when different respiratory substrates were oxidized (KMox was around 1.2 μM for succinate and around 11 μM for NADH). Thus, with succinate as a reducing substrate, the activation of alternative oxidase (with GMP) resulted in the oxidation of the ubiquinone pool, and a corresponding decrease in KMox. However, when external NADH was oxidized, the ubiquinone pool was further reduced (albeit slightly) with alternative oxidase activation, and the KMox increased dramatically. Thus, the apparent affinity of alternative oxidase for oxygen decreased when the ubiquinone reduction level increased either by changing the activator or the respiratory substrate availability. 相似文献

Effects of water velocity on photosynthesis and dark respiration in submerged stream macrophytes 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The effects of flow velocities on dark respiration and net photosynthesis of eight submerged stream macrophytes were examined in a laboratory oxygen chamber. The shoots/leaves were exposed to saturating free-CO2 concentrations and were attached basally so that they could move in the flowing water. Net photosynthesis declined by 34–61% as flow velocity increased from 1 to 8.6cm s?1, while dark respiration increased 2.4-fold over the same range. The increase in dark respiration could only account for between 19 and 67% of the decrease in net photosynthesis. The relationship between flow velocity (U) and net photosynthesis (P) was described by: P=b×Ua. The exponent, a, varied from -0.20 to –0.48 and showed a negative correlation to the surface: volume (SA: V) ratio of the plants, i.e. species with high SA: V ratio were more sensitive to flow. In contrast, net photosynthesis of plants firmly attached to a supporting frame was not significantly affected by increasing flow velocity. This result indicates that the physical stress imposed on the plants by agitation or stretching in the flowing water is a key factor for the observed response. 相似文献

The thermodynamics of the conversion of aqueous fumarate to L-(-)-malate has been investigated using both heat conduction microcalorimetry and a gas chromatographic method for determining equilibrium constants. The reaction was carried out in aqueous Tris-HCl buffer over the pH range 6.3-8.0, the temperature range 25-47 degrees C, and at ionic strengths varying from 0.0005 to 0.62 mol kg-1. Measured enthalpies and equilibrium ratios have been adjusted to zero ionic strength and corrected for ionization effects to obtain the following standard state values for the conversion of aqueous fumarate 2- to malate 2- at 25 degrees C: K = 4.20 +/- 0.05, delta G degrees = -3557 +/- 30 J mol-1, delta H degrees = -15670 +/- 150 J mol-1, and delta C degrees p = -36 +/- J mol-1 K-1. Equations are given which allow one to calculate the combined effects of pH and temperature on equilibrium constants and enthalpies of this reaction. 相似文献

The molecular mechanism of action of the alkaloid lycorine has been revised. According to our results, lycorine inhibits the binding of CACCA-Leu←Ac to the donor site of the peptidyltranferase center of wheat-germ ribosomes, whereas the transpeptidation reaction in the system with the minimal model donor is not inhibited. Thirty-five genera and 73 species, were identifiedfrom 312 daily exposures set up during theperiod March 1997–March 1998. The total fungalcatch exhibited two peaks in July and December1997 and a trough in February 1998. Cladosporium (6 spp. 40.1% of total fungi),Alternaria (4 spp., 21%) andUlocladium (4 spp., 9.2%) were the maincomponents of air-borne fungi, and thecommonest species were Cladosporium.sphaerospermum (29.7%), C.cladosporioides (6.9%), Alternaria.alternata (13.9%) and U. atrum (5%).The predominance of these dark-coloured fungiin air is discussed and is attributed to one orboth of two hypotheses. Aspergillus (9spp., 4.3%) and Penicillium (8 spp.,3.95%) came next and were represented mainlyby A.niger (1.3%) andP. chrysogenum (2.4%).Spore showers of C.cladosporioides, C. sphaerospermum, Penicillium chrysogenum and Myrotheciumverrucaria were noticed with no regularseasonal pattern.The monthly number of species ranalmost parallel to the total count of fungi.The broadest species spectrum (25–29 spp.) wasrecorded in the summer months May–August 1997and the narrowest (11–12 spp.) in February andMarch 1998.The highest monthly wind velocity wasregularly associated with higher fungal colonycounts than in case of the lowest velocity. Onthe other hand, wind direction did not exhibitany regular correlation either with the colonycounts of fungi or with the wind velocity. A method is described by which affinities and transport rates for unlabeled substrate analogs are readily determined, and which is based on the effect of an unlabeled analog upon the rate of transport of a labeled substrate present at a low concentration on the trans side of the membrane. The procedure is widely applicable since it does not depend on assumptions about rate-limiting steps and holds for both active and non-active systems. Here it is applied in an experimental study of the facilitated diffusion system for choline in erythrocytes, and it is shown that the transport parameters for a test substrate obtained by this method are the same as those found when the transport of the substrate is followed directly. 相似文献
