The floodplains of Central Amazonia represent a complex system of inundated river valleys and shallow lakes along the Solimões–Amazonas river, which is subjected to an annual flood-pulse lasting up to 10 months. Such flooding reaching an amplitude of about ten meters causes dramatic changes in the bioavailability of nutrients and oxygen levels and poses extreme constraints for plant survival and reproductivity. Tree species of inundation forests in Central Amazonia had to evolve adaptive mechanisms to both desiccation of soils and partial or full submergence. To adapt to flooded conditions, some trees overcome the flood period by dormancy accompanied by defoliation and formation of annual rings in the wood. Other species maintain metabolism and retain the foliage during the flooding, representing another adaptive mechanism to low oxygen availability. This investigation focused on the root physiology and morphology of six species typical of white-water inundation areas (várzea) led to a preliminary classification of adaptive strategies of trees inhabiting forest communities in floodplains of the Amazon basin. 相似文献

Abstract A pollen diagram from a small lake, Kutulahdenlampi, in northern Finland is interpreted in terms of the development of forest vegetation during the Holocene. The abundance of each of the forest taxa is considered independently by means of pollen accumulation rates (PARs), using as the reference material, long term average pollen deposition values monitored by a network of pollen traps. Particular attention is paid to the arrival of spruce and to the species in the original forests that this newcomer replaces. A model of pollen dispersal and deposition developed by Sugita is used to estimate the area around the lake that the pollen assemblage is most clearly reflecting. This relevant source area of pollen (RSAP), for the present day situations is c. 1,500 m. Pollen loadings calculated for a simulated landscape that mimics (i) that of the present day and (ii) for the situation at 8,000 BP (as deduced from the PARs) are compared with the pollen assemblages from the diagram at those points in time, and are seen to be compatible. The advantages of combining PAR and modelling to look at the spatial scale of vegetation reconstructions are discussed. 相似文献

The effect of various macroalgal diets on the growth of grow-out (>20 mm shell length) South African abalone Haliotis midae was investigated on a commercial abalone farm. The experiment consisted of four treatments: fresh kelp blades (Ecklonia maxima (Osbeck) Papenfuss) (c. 10% protein); farmed, protein-enriched Ulva lactuca Linnaeus (c. 26% protein) grown in aquaculture effluent; wild U. lactuca (c. 20% protein); and a combination diet of kelp blades + farmed U. lactuca. Abalone grew best on the combination diet (0.423 ± 0.02% weight d?1 SGR [specific growth rate]; 59.593 ± 0.02 ?m d?1 DISL [daily increment in shell length]; 1.093 final CF [condition factor]) followed by the kelp only diet (0.367 ± 0.02% weight d?1 SGR; 53.148 ± 0.02 ?m d?1 DISL; 1.047 final CF), then the farmed, protein-enriched U. lactuca only diet (0.290 ± 0.02% weight d?1 SGR; 42.988 ± 0.03 um d”1 DISL; 1.013 final CF) that in turn outperformed the wild U. lactuca only diet (-0.079 ± 0.01% weight d?1 SGR; 3.745 ± 0.02 ?m d”?1 DISL; 0.812 final CF). 蚬木是喀斯特季节性雨林的优势种和特征种,研究蚬木种群的增长过程将为深入理解喀斯特季节性雨林动态提供基础。根据一个15hm2固定样地的调查数据,采用logistic模型及其4种改进模型对蚬木种群的增长过程进行了拟合,用残差平方和、决定系数和AIC准则对拟合的模型进行评价。结果表明:李新运模型和刘金福模型的拟合效果较好,但综合考虑模型的拟合效果和模型的简洁性,logistic模型和S形增长过程模型为较优模型。用logistic模型对蚬木种群的增长过程进行深入分析发现,种群增长最快的时期为50a左右,而在150a后,种群逐渐进入增长饱和期。种群目前接近增长饱和期,所以应加强保护,以维持蚬木群落的稳定发展。 相似文献

全球范围内干旱频率和强度的增加严重影响树木生长,甚至导致森林大面积死亡。压力-容积(PV)曲线能够反映树木对干旱的容忍能力,但在局域尺度上尚未确定哪个PV曲线参数具有最优指示性。通过测定东北温带森林20种主要树种(包括16种被子植物和4种裸子植物)的PV曲线性状,包括质壁分离时的相对含水量(RWCtlp)、失膨点叶水势(TLP)、饱和含水时的叶渗透势(π0)、细胞弹性模量(ε)、叶水容(Cleaf)及叶结构性状(比叶面积和叶密度),研究局域尺度上叶片耐旱性的最佳指示性状,并分析叶片PV性状与结构性状间的相关性。结果表明: 被子植物的RWCtlp 显著大于裸子植物,但其Cleaf 显著小于裸子植物,这表明用RWCtlp和Cleaf可以指示东北温带森林不同功能型树种间耐旱性的大小。在被子植物中,TLP和π0与叶密度呈显著负相关,且均与比叶面积呈显著正相关;而ε与比叶面积呈显著负相关。然而,裸子植物PV曲线性状与叶结构性状之间呈现与被子植物完全相反的趋势。裸子植物与被子植物树种之间PV曲线性状与叶结构性状关系的差异,可能归因于二者采取不同的干旱响应和适应策略。 相似文献

A collection of mycorrhizal and nonmycorrhizal root-associated fungi coming from forest environments was screened for their ability to degrade N-acyl homoserine lactones (AHL) or to prevent AHL recognition by producing quorum sensing inhibitors (QSI). No production of QS-inhibitors or -activators was detected using the two biosensors Chromobacterium violaceum CV026 and Agrobacterium tumefaciens in the culture supernatant of these fungi. However, the ability to degrade C6- and 3O,C6-HSL was detected for three fungal isolates. Acidification assay revealed that the AHL were degraded by a lactonase activity for two of these isolates. These results demonstrated for the first time that the forest root-associated fungi are capable of degrading the AHL signal molecules. 相似文献

A novel landscape classification system was proposed in this study based on landscape ecological theory and the differentiation in climate, topography, soil, vegetation and land use mode. Five basic units (zone, tract, province, region and type) and two assistant units (sub and group) were used in this system. The tropical forest landscape in Hainan Island was regarded as a landscape province, belonging to global tropical forest landscape zone, Asiatic (oriental) tropical forest landscape tract and Chinese tropical forest landscape subtract. Based on the grade system of region, sub-region, type-group and type, this landscape province (Hainan Island) is divided into 6 landscape regions (east moist forest landscape, west semi-arid forest landscape, central-south mountainous forest landscape, tropical evergreen needle-leaved forest landscape, tropical bamboo landscape and tropical plantation landscape), 11 tropical forest landscape sub-regions represented by tropical lowland valley rain forest landscape, 26 tropical forest landscape-type groups represented by tropical lowland valley Dipterocarpaceae forest landscape, and 54 forest landscape types (FLT) represented by lowland valley Vatica mangachapoi forest. Generally, this classification system represents the landscape diversity of the tropical forest in Hainan Island. The kinetics of biomass formation, D-xylose utilization, and mixed substrate utilization were determined in a chemostat using the yeast Candida shehatae. The maximum growth rate of C. shehatae grown aerobically on D-xylose was 0.42 h−1 and the Monod constant, K
s, was 0.06 g L−1. The biomass yield, Y
{X/S}, ranged from 0.40 to 0.50 g g−1 over a dilution rate range of 0.2–0.3 h−1, when C. shehatae was grown on pure D-xylose. Mixtures of D-xylose and glucose (∼1 : 1) were simultaneously utilized over a dilution rate from 0.15 to 0.35 h−1 at pH 3.5 and 4.5, but pH 3.5 reduced μmax and reduced the dilution rate range over which D-xylose was utilized in the presence of glucose. At pH 4.5, μmax was not reduced with the mixed sugar feed and the overall or lumped K
s value was not significantly increased (0.058 g L−1
vs 0.06 g L−1), when compared to a pure D-xylose feed. Kinetic data indicate that C. shehatae is an excellent candidate for chemostat production of value added products from renewable carbon sources, since simultaneous
mixed substrate utilization was observed over a wide range of growth rates on a 1 : 1 mixture of glucose and D-xylose.
