We describe and illustrate a new needle nematode, Longidorus americanum n. sp., associated with patches of severely stunted and chlorotic loblolly pine, (Pinus taeda L.) seedlings in seedbeds at the Flint River Nursery (Byromville, GA). It is characterized by having females with a body length of 5.4-9.0 mm; lip region slightly swollen, anteriorly flattened, giving the anterior end a truncate appearance; long odontostyle (124-165 µm); vulva at 44%-52% of body length; and tail conoid, bluntly rounded to almost hemispherical. Males are rare but present, and in general shorter than females. The new species is morphologically similar to L. biformis, L. paravineacola, L. saginus, and L. tarjani but differs from these species either by the body, odontostyle and total stylet length, or by head and tail shape. Sequence data from the D2-D3 region of the 28S rDNA distinguishes this new species from other Longidorus species. Phylogenetic relationships of Longidorus americanum n. sp. with other longidorids based on analysis of this DNA fragment are presented. Additional information regarding the distribution of this species within the region is required.  相似文献

扫描电镜下,兔眼越桔花粉为四合体,外形为准四面体,中等大小,表面具不规则皱波状纹饰,并有多处凹陷。萌发孔沟多为3对(顶分体3条,侧分体各对应1条),以四面体几何中轴为中心,中心对称分布于四面体的3个侧面。萌发孔沟的长度、宽度、孔盖长与宽、孔盖的形状、突起的程度等,在个体间有差异,尤其是一些具有多处凹陷的花粉粒,可能是导致花粉萌发率不同的生态类型。用极坐标法描述四合体花粉的新方法可以表现其饱满度,比较传统上用极轴、赤道轴的长短表现花粉平面大小的方法,更加准确而直观。  相似文献

The complex microstructure of organic semiconductor mixtures continues to obscure the connection between the active layer morphology and photovoltaic device performance. For example, the ubiquitous presence of mixed phases in the active layer of polymer/fullerene solar cells creates multiple morphologically distinct interfaces which are capable of exciton dissociation or charge recombination. Here, it is shown that domain compositions and fullerene aggregation can strongly modulate charge photogeneration at ultrafast timescales through studies of a model system, mixtures of a low band‐gap polymer, poly[(4,4′‐bis(2‐ethylhexyl)dithieno[3,2‐b:2′,3′‐d]germole)‐2,6‐diyl‐alt‐(2,1,3‐benzothia‐diazole)‐4,7‐diyl], and [6,6]‐phenyl‐C71‐butyric acid methyl ester. Structural characterization using energy‐filtered transmission electron microscopy (EFTEM) and resonant soft X‐ray scattering shows similar microstructures even with changes in the overall film composition. Composition maps generated from EFTEM, however, demonstrate that compositions of mixed domains vary significantly with overall film composition. Furthermore, the amount of polymer in the mixed domains is inversely correlated with device performance. Photoinduced absorption studies using ultrafast infrared spectroscopy demonstrate that polaron concentrations are highest when mixed domains contain the least polymer. Grazing‐incidence X‐ray scattering results show that larger fullerene coherence lengths are correlated to higher polaron yields. Thus, the purity of the mixed domains is critical for efficient charge photogeneration because purity modulates fullerene aggregation and electron delocalization.  相似文献

Tapiscia sinensis, a rare endemic woody plant with both male and hermaphrodite individuals, is distributed in southern China. Whether T. sinensis is functionally androdioecious is unknown. In this study, we compare the male fitness between male and hermaphrodite individuals and perform pollination experiments in different habitats, identify the ability of actual siring of pollen from hermaphrodites and males under natural pollination, and discuss the evolution and maintenance of androdioecy in T. sinensis. Research suggests that flowers and fruits grow synchronously on hermaphrodite plants of T. sinensis from April to June. The males of T. sinensis had more than twice the genetic contribution of hermaphrodites through their male function and the fruit set from male pollination and cross‐pollination was the highest in all of the treatments, whereas that from self‐pollination was the lowest. Additionally, paternity analysis showed that the hermaphroditic pollen could result in siring success under natural pollination. The results showed that T. sinensis is a functionally androdioecious tree, that male individuals might evolve from a hermaphroditic ancestor and that the synchronous growth of flowers and fruit in hermaphrodites might facilitate the evolution and maintenance of androdioecy in T. sinensis.  相似文献

Stability and procured instability characterize two opposing types of swimming, steady and maneuvering, respectively. Fins can be used to manipulate flow to adjust stability during swimming maneuvers either actively using muscle control or passively by structural control. The function of the dorsal fins during turning maneuvering in two shark species with different swimming modes is investigated here using musculoskeletal anatomy and muscle function. White‐spotted bamboo sharks are a benthic species that inhabits complex reef habitats and thus have high requirements for maneuverability. Spiny dogfish occupy a variety of coastal and continental shelf habitats and spend relatively more time cruising in open water. These species differ in dorsal fin morphology and fin position along the body. Bamboo sharks have a larger second dorsal fin area and proportionally more muscle insertion into both dorsal fins. The basal and radial pterygiophores are plate‐like structures in spiny dogfish and are nearly indistinguishable from one another. In contrast, bamboo sharks lack basal pterygiophores, while the radial pterygiophores form two rows of elongated rectangular elements that articulate with one another. The dorsal fin muscles are composed of a large muscle mass that extends over the ceratotrichia overlying the radials in spiny dogfish. However, in bamboo sharks, the muscle mass is divided into multiple distinct muscles that insert onto the ceratotrichia. During turning maneuvers, the dorsal fin muscles are active in both species with no differences in onset between fin sides. Spiny dogfish have longer burst durations on the outer fin side, which is consistent with opposing resistance to the medium. In bamboo sharks, bilateral activation of the dorsal in muscles could also be stiffening the fin throughout the turn. Thus, dogfish sharks passively stiffen the dorsal fin structurally and functionally, while bamboo sharks have more flexible dorsal fins, which result from a steady swimming trade off. J. 自然产卵场是维持物种延续最关键的栖息地,青海湖裸鲤(Gymnocypris przewalskii)的自然繁殖栖息地状况和生境特征尚缺乏详细的定量研究。以青海湖入湖河流泉吉河为例,在平水期采用现场调查和无人机遥测的方法对青海湖裸鲤的自然产卵场分布及生境状况进行调查,确定其产卵场生境特征参数,建立基于无人机遥测识别产卵场的方法并进行复核验证。结果表明:泉吉河河道形态可分为弯曲型、分汊型和顺直型等三种典型河型,青海湖裸鲤自然产卵场主要分布在弯曲型和分汊型河道中,分汊型河道几乎100%都有产卵场分布,弯曲型河道有70%为产卵场;产卵场河道平均长度(135.13±61.13) m,平均宽度(30.01±17.51) m,平均曲折度1.09±0.07;平均面积(4586.6±4201.61) m2;产卵场常位于缓水浅滩处,平均水深(0.19±0.10) m (范围:0.03-0.44m),平均流速(0.24±0.20) m/s (范围:0.01-0.81m/s),河床质为含有沙粒的卵石(粒径:163-256mm)底质。河道形态、沙洲分布、水深特征等特征参数可作为无人机遥测识别产卵场的判断条件,并实现验证成功。研究结果可为开展整个流域的青海湖裸鲤自然产卵场现状评估及保护对策制定提供技术支撑。  相似文献

【目的】动物界存在多种用于对抗捕食者的防御机制。一些鳞翅目昆虫的蛹在受到机械刺激时会发出蠕动的声音。【方法】在扫描电镜下对柑橘凤蝶Papilio xuthus蛹的发声器形态特征进行观察,并使用Audacity软件对捕获的声音进行特征分析。【结果】柑橘凤蝶蛹在腹部第4-5节和第5-6节之间的节间膜上存在发声器,有规律地发出嘶嘶声。发声器由多层甲壳素构成的刮器和板组成,刮器和板上有 50~90个突起。当蛹的腹部被寄生蜂触角刺激30 s以上时,刮器和板会迅速相互摩擦,腹部反复摆动发出声音。蛹发出的声音是由一系列每2 000~3 000 ms发生3次的短脉冲组成的。频带很宽,主要分布在5~20kHz范围内。新鲜蛹和越冬蛹的活性不同,声强也不同。【结论】本研究首先描述了柑橘蝴蝶蛹发声器的结构,结果支持了一些蝴蝶蛹对寄生生物进化出一种特殊的防御机制(声学防御)的假说。此外,通过比较两种生境的柑橘凤蝶蛹的声波特征,我们提出了同一物种在不同地理区域可以产生方言的假说。 关键词:  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The micro-environment of cancer cells in the body is mechanically stiffer than that of normal cells. We cultured three breast cell lines of MCF10A-normal, MCF7-noninvasive, and MDA-MB-231-invasive on PDMS substrates with different elastic moduli and different cellular features were examined.Effects of substrate stiffness on cell behavior were evident among all cell lines. Cancerous cells were more sensitive to substrate stiffness for cell behaviors related to cell motility and migration which are necessary for invasion. The invasive cancerous cells were the most motile on substrates with moderate stiffness followed by non-invasive cancerous cells. Gene markers alterations were generally according to the analyzed cell movement parameters. Results suggest that alterations in matrix stiffness may be related to cancer disease and progression.  相似文献
