The transmission dynamics of the human-pig zoonotic cestode Taenia solium are explored with both deterministic and stochastic versions of a modified Reed-Frost model. This model, originally developed for microparasitic infections (i.e. bacteria, viruses and protozoa), assumes that random contacts occur between hosts and that hosts can be either susceptible, infected or 'recovered and presumed immune'. Transmission between humans and pigs is modelled as susceptible roaming pigs scavenging on human faeces infected with T. solium eggs. Transmission from pigs to humans is modelled as susceptible humans eating under-cooked pork meat harbouring T. solium metacestodes. Deterministic models of each scenario were first run, followed by stochastic versions of the models to assess the likelihood of infection elimination in the small population modelled. The effects of three groups of interventions were investigated using the model: (i) interventions affecting the transmission parameters such as use of latrines, meat inspection, and cooking habits; (ii) routine interventions including rapid detection and treatment of human carriers or pig vaccination; and (iii) treatment interventions of either humans or pigs. It is concluded that mass-treatment can result in a short term dramatic reduction in prevalence, whereas interventions targeting interruption of the life cycle lead to long-term reduction in prevalence. 相似文献

The electrostatic force including the intramolecular Coulombic interactions and the electrostatic contribution of solvation effect were entirely calculated by using the finite difference Poisson-Boltzmann method (FDPB), which was incorporated into the GROMOS96 force field to complete a new finite difference stochastic dynamics procedure (FDSD). Simulations were performed on an insulin dimer. Different relative dielectric constants were successively assigned to the protein interior; a value of 17 was selected as optimal for our system. The simulation data were analyzed and compared with those obtained from 500-ps molecular dynamics (MD) simulation with explicit water and a 500-ps conventional stochastic dynamics (SD) simulation without the mean solvent force. The results indicate that the FDSD method with GROMOS96 force field is suitable to study the dynamics and structure of proteins in solution if used with the optimal protein dielectric constant. 相似文献

The factors influencing the seasonal dynamics of Daphnia in a thermally stratified lake (Esthwaite Water) are described and related to long-term changes in the weather. The Daphnia produced three cohorts in the year and the strength of the cohorts was determined by year-to-year variations in the physical
characteristics of the lake and the abundance of edible algae. Food was most abundant in early summer when small, fast-growing
flagellates were particularly common. In late summer, the phytoplankton community was dominated by large, inedible species
but edible forms re-appeared when nutrients were entrained by wind mixing. Examples are presented to demonstrate the effect
that year-to-year variations in the weather have on the growth of the phytoplankton and the dynamics of the Daphnia. In ‘good’ years, when the lake stratifies early and there are periods of episodic mixing in summer, there are two ‘pulses’
of edible algae and two strong cohorts of Daphnia. In ‘bad’ years when stratification is delayed and there is little episodic mixing, the growth of the edible algae is suppressed
and the Daphnia produce two weak cohorts. The results are discussed in relation to the impact of intermediate disturbances on growth of phytoplankton
and current theories of population regulation in Daphnia. The evidence suggests that the dynamics of the Daphnia in the lake are strongly influenced by seasonal variations in the mixing regime, the recycling of nutrients and the episodic

水稻是世界上最早驯化的重要粮食作物之一。水稻芒可以保护水稻种子不被鸟琢食,是水稻重要的驯化性状之一。芒在野生稻中普遍存在,对野生稻的生存和传播至关重要,然而在驯化和人工选择过程中该性状逐渐被淘汰。定位和克隆水稻长芒相关基因是研究水稻芒驯化遗传机制的基础。本研究以籼稻恢复系东南恢810为受体、漳浦野生稻为供体构建的146个染色体片段置换系(chromosome segment substitution lines, CSSLs)为研究材料,调查了146个CSSLs株系和双亲的芒长,结果表明在4个置换系中检测到1个控制水稻芒长主效基因GAD1-2,位于水稻第8号染色体;利用重叠代换作图法,将GAD1-2定位在Ind8-10和RM4936标记之间,遗传距离约为4.75 Mb。选择分离群体中的显性单株,利用开发的标记,最终将GAD1-2 基因定位在两个 Indel 标记之间,两者间的物理距离约为27 kb,该区域内只有两个候选基因Os08g0485500和Os08g0485400。经测序和分析表明,Os08g0485500是GAD1-2的候选基因,GAD1-2在保守的ORF区域存在6个碱基缺失,导致丝氨酸和半胱氨酸这两个氨基酸缺失,从而表现长芒的性状;在Os08g0485500基因位点已克隆了1个控制水稻芒长的GAD1基因,推测GAD1-2与GAD1为等位基因。本研究为进一步理解水稻起源演化和水稻芒长发育基因的遗传机制奠定了基础。 相似文献

Promising inhibitory activities of the parasite multiplication were obtained upon evaluation of in vivo antimalarial activities of new pyrazolylpyrazoline derivatives against Plasmodium berghei infected mice. Further evaluation of 5b and 6a against chloroquine-resistant strain (RKL9) of P. falciparum showed higher potency than chloroquine. In vitro antileishmanial activity testing against Leishmania aethiopica promastigote and amastigote forms indicated that 5b, 6a and 7b possessed promising activity compared to miltefosine and amphotericin B deoxycholate. Moreover, antileishmanial activity reversal of the active compounds via folic and folinic acids showed comparable results to the positive control trimethoprim, indicating an antifolate mechanism via targeting leishmanial DHFR and PTR1. The compounds were non-toxic at 125, 250 and 500 mg/kg. In addition, docking of the most active compound against putative malarial target Pf-DHFR-TS and leishmanial PTR1 rationalised the observed activities. Eleven representatives of the superorder Amphiesmenoptera (Trichoptera + Lepidoptera) were examined for sex chromatin status. Three species represent stenopsychoid, limnephiloid and leptoceroid branches of the Trichoptera; eight species belong to the primitive, so-called nonditrysian Lepidoptera and represent the infra-orders Zeugloptera, Dacnonypha, Exoporia, Incurvariina, Nepticulina and Tischeriina. The female-specific sex chromatin body was found in the interphase somatic nuclei of Tischeria ekebladella (Bjerkander 1795) (Lepidoptera, Tischeriina). The sex chromatin was absent in all investigated Trichoptera species as well as in all representatives of the nonditrysian Lepidoptera except Tischeria ekebladella . The sex chromosome mechanism of Limnephilus lunatus Curtis 1834 (Trichoptera, Limnephilidae) is Z/ZZ. The sex chromosome mechanism of Tischeria ekebladella (Lepidoptera, Tischeriina) is ZW/ZZ including the W chromosome as the largest element in the chromosome set. The data obtained support the hypothesis that the Z/ZZ sex chromosome system, the female heterogamety and the absence of the sex chromatin body in interphase nuclei are ancestral traits in the superorder Amphiesmenoptera. These ancestral characters are probably kept constant in all the Trichoptera and in the most primitive Lepidoptera. The W sex chromosome and the sex chromatin evolved later in the nonditrysian grade of the Lepidoptera. It is proposed that the sex chromatin is a synapomorphy of Tischeriina and Ditrysia. 相似文献

Natural and anthropogenic disturbance provides a mechanism for resetting the species assemblage within natural communities. Following anthropogenic disturbance particularly, there are generally more weedy species. Restoration of ecosystem structure and function in disturbed areas could aid in the control of these undesirable species. Attempts to re‐establish vegetation via direct sowing, hydroseeding, drill seeding, imprinting or plugging of either native or non‐native species can be effective, but can result in increased erosion and weed proliferation prior to desirable cover of the intended species. The use of native species for rehabilitation can be preferable because non‐native species are often less suited to the local environment and can pose a threat to the integrity of adjacent ecosystems. Native multispecies sod could become a useful rehabilitation tool, but research is needed to determine which species to use and the appropriate number of species to include. Mixtures of 4–7 native species were grown for 7 months, and clipped dry biomass, species percent abundance, and total ground cover were assessed over time in order to determine the suitability of 20 native species for sod production. Despite differences between mixtures at some harvests, all mixtures established and produced similar biomass by the end of the study. Final percent cover varied widely among species; 16 of the 20 species increased significantly over the course of production. Differences in total ground cover between mixtures were explained by the growth of the particular species rather than any synergistic effect of species diversity. 相似文献
