Abstract

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are some of the most important pollutants that have adverse effects on human health. In this study, simultaneous indoor and outdoor air samples were collected from four types of microenvironments (restaurants, photocopy centers, dry cleaners, and auto paint shops) in Kocaeli, Turkey in both winter and summer. Twenty-four VOCs were detected using gas chromatography and a flame ionization detector. The aim of the study was to determine the VOC concentrations in various workplaces and investigate associated health risks. Results show that the highest mean total VOC concentrations are in auto paint shops (14,066 µg/m3 in winter, 3441 µg/m3 in summer) followed by dry cleaners, restaurants, and photocopy centers. Total cancer risk was approximately 310 times greater than the acceptable limit in auto paint shops, 44 times greater in restaurants, 42 times greater in dry cleaners, and 17 times greater in photocopy centers. Total hazard quotients were also greater than the acceptable limit in all microenvironments.  相似文献

With the use of low temperature spectrofluorometry and matrix calculations it was demonstrated that the chlorophyll a pool of higher plants is made up of four different chlorophyll a chromophores. The latter were segregated by high pressure liquid chromatography on a silica column. They were designated Chl a (E432 F664), Chl a (E436 F670), Chl a (E443 F672) and Chl a (E446 F674), where E refers to the Soret excitation maximum and F to the fluorescence emission maximum at 77 K in ether. Likewise the Chl b pool was shown to consist of at least four different Chl b chromophores which were designated: Chl b (E465), Chl b (E470), Chl b (E475) and Chl b (E485). It was proposed that the various chlorophyll chromophores differed by the degree of oxidation of their side chains at the 2 and 4 positions of the macrocycle. It was also suggested that the chemical modifications at the 2 and 4 positions of the macrocycle may play an important role in positioning the different chlorophyll chromophores in the thylakoid membranes.  相似文献

Nonathymidilate was synthesized containing the chromophore (dansyl) group linked to its 5'-phosphate. In the presence of this compound the polyadenilic acid molecules are split by the radiation (power density J greater than or equal to 70 MW/cm2) of a nitrogen laser, while under the same conditions poly(C) and poly(U) are hardly affected. This selective optically non-linear effect was predicted and is explained in terms of radiativeless transfer of two-quantum excitation of the chromophore which is fixed on poly(A) molecule due to the formation of the complementary complex with nonathymidilate.  相似文献

Abstract

The immobilization of microbial cells can contribute to fermented meat technology at two basic levels. First, the solid/semisolid nature (low available water) of the substrate restricts the mobility of cells and results in spatial organizations based on “natural immobilization” within the fermentation matrix. The microniches formed influence the fermentation biochemistry through mass transfer limitations and the subsequent development and activity of the microflora. This form of immobilization controls the nature of competition between subpopu-lations within the microflora and ultimately exerts an effect on the ecological competence (ability to survive and compete) of the various cultures present. Second, immobilized cell technology (ICT) can be used to enhance the ecological competence of starter cultures added to initiate the fermentation. Immobilization matrices such as alginate can provide microniches or microenvironments that protect the culture during freezing or lyophilization, during subsequent rehydration, and when in competition with indigenous microflora. The regulated release of cells from the microenvironments can also contribute to competitive ability. The regulation of both immobilization processes can result in enhanced fermentation activity.  相似文献
