Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande), Myzus persicae (Sulzer), Plutella xylostella (L), and Spodoptera exigua (Hübner) are notorious agricultural insect pests worldwide. Due to the rapid development of resistance to the conventional insecticides, the number of available insecticides might be reduced in a near future, and botanical insecticides can be considered as one of the potential candidates to solve this problem. In the present study, test formulations were prepared using plant essential oils and extracts as main active ingredients, and their insecticidal activity and phytotoxicity were examined. Among the combinations tested, two oil-in-water formulations of NRS-13 containing thyme white oil and NRS-24 containing basil and rosemary oils were selected based on their notable insecticidal activity and low phytotoxicity. Chemical analyses on the active essential oils, the quantitative analysis of the major components in the formulations, insecticidal activities under pot and field conditions, their acute toxicity on mammals, and ecotoxicity on fish were also examined. The NRS-13 (BaechooSaferTM) and NRS-24 (JindiOutTM) formulations showed species-specific insecticidal activity against P. xylostella and M. persicae, respectively. In addition, both formulations produced low acute oral and dermal toxicity, skin and eye irritation, and fish toxicities, which suggests those formulations based on essential oils could be considered as insecticides for pest control in small-scale environments in organic farming.  相似文献

Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) is vectored by aphids, including Myzus persicae. Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum ‘Xanthi’) plants infected with a mutant of the Fny strain of CMV (Fny-CMVΔ2b, which cannot express the CMV 2b protein) exhibit strong resistance against M. persicae, which is manifested by decreased survival and reproduction of aphids confined on the plants. Previously, we found that the Fny-CMV 1a replication protein elicits aphid resistance in plants infected with Fny-CMVΔ2b, whereas in plants infected with wild-type Fny-CMV this is counteracted by the CMV 2b protein, a counterdefence protein that, among other things, inhibits jasmonic acid (JA)-dependent immune signalling. We noted that in nontransformed cv. Petit Havana SR1 tobacco plants aphid resistance was not induced by Fny-CMVΔ2b, suggesting that not all tobacco varieties possess the factor(s) with which the 1a protein interacts. To determine if 1a protein-induced aphid resistance is JA-dependent in Xanthi tobacco, transgenic plants were made that expressed an RNA silencing construct to diminish expression of the JA co-receptor CORONATINE-INSENSITIVE 1. Fny-CMVΔ2b did not induce resistance to M. persicae in these transgenic plants. Thus, aphid resistance induction by the 1a protein requires JA-dependent defensive signalling, which is countered by the CMV 2b protein.  相似文献

Differentiation of aphid clones was attempted using AP-PCR which is a simple and rapid method to obtain DNA fingerprints of complex genomes. To establish optimal reaction conditions and examine reproducibility of the method, a laboratory-maintained clone of the pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum , was used as test material. Under the reaction conditions employed, identical fingerprint patterns were obtained throughout a wide range of template DNA amount, from 5 to 800 ng, and irrespective of aphid instar. No changes in the patterns were seen throughout five parthenogenetic generations. When this method was applied to a wild population of the gall-forming aphid, Ceratovacuna nekoashi , five groups of insects originating from different galls formed on the same twig were successfully differentiated from one another by means of polymorphic fingerprint bands. In contrast, the fingerprints of the insects derived from the subgalls of the same gall were identical. These results indicated that in C. nekoashi : (i) members of a gall constitute a clonal population; (ii) a gall is founded by a single fundatrix; and (iii) intergall migration is absent or at least not frequent.  相似文献

Sporotrichum thermophile grew well and produced plant cell-wall degrading enzymes on straw (barley and wheat) of different particle sizes and Avicel as carbon sources. Comparable activities of endoglucanase, Avicelase and cellobiase were produced on each substrate. In contrast, activities of xylanase, aryl--glucosidase, -xylosidase, esterase and -l-arabinofuranosidase were higher on straw (either wheat or barley) than on Avicel. The enzyme systems produced on barley straw of different particle sizes degraded finely milled barley straw in vitro more rapidly and to a greater extent than those produced on Avicel. In contrast, the enzyme systems produced on Avicel and very coarse barley straw hydrolysed Avicel to about the same extent while that produced on fine barley straw was slightly less effective. The main hydrolysis product in all cases was glucose. Isoelectric focusing revealed that the plant cell-wall degrading enzyme system produced by S. thermophile on barley straw was qualitatively and quantitatively superior to that produced on Avicel.C. Cereal leaf protoplasts are often extremely unstable in culture and usually lyse within 24 hours. Using the thiobarbituric acid test and the ferrous thiocyanate test we have shown that corn (Zea mays L. cv. Market Beauty) and wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv. Benito) leaf protoplasts accumulate peroxides and peroxide degradation products during culture. This increase correlated with an increase in lipoxygenase activity. On the other hand, enzymes involved in detoxification of peroxides such as catalase and peroxidase decreased during culture. The occurrence of lipid peroxidation in leaf protoplasts is likely to be a consequence of a temporary imbalance in the enzymes involved in oxygen metabolism. It has previously been shown that the lipoxygenase inhibitor n-propyl gallate stabilizes the protoplasts in culture and so peroxidation is likely to be the cause of leaf protoplast instability. Protoplasts obtained from suspension cultures are stable in culture and do not undergo lipid peroxidation. Honeydew as a contact kairomone for aphid parasitoids   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7  
Aphidius rhopalosiphi De Stefani-Perez, four other primary parasitoids and three hyperparasitoids of cereal aphids responded to cereal aphid honeydew on filter paper discs by greatly increasing visit times. Both female and male parasitoids responded, females generally more strongly. A. rhopalosiphi females were shown to habituate to honeydew, and to dishabituate fully in 90 min. Their response increased with increasing concentrations of honeydew up to 0.25 mg/l, but no further increase was detected at 0.5 mg/l. The response did not occur when direct contact with the treated paper was prevented. A. rhopalosiphi responded to some honeydew from non-host aphids as strongly as to that from host aphids. A. rhopalosiphi responded to the honeydew produced by Metopolophium dirhodum (Walker) reared on artificial diet and to the diet itself as strongly as to honeydew from M. dirhodum reared on wheat. The response of A. rhopalosiphi to honeydew therefore appears not to be caused by specific plant chemicals in the honeydew, and is probably not caused by aphid-specific chemicals. The results are discussed in relation to host location by A. rhopalosiphi.
Résumé Les parasitoïdes primaires de pucerons des céréales: Aphidius rhopalosiphi, A. picipes, A. ervi, Praon volucre et Ephedrus plagiator, ainsi que leurs hyperparasitoïdes, Dendrocerus carpenteri, Phaenoglyphis villosa et Alloxysta victrix ont réagi à du miellat de Sitobion avenae imbibant des disques de papier filtre, en prolongeant beaucoup leur temps de visite. Les femelles et les mâles ont réagi, mais les femelles généralement plus fortement. L'augmentation du temps de visite était probablement provoqué par la diminution de leur vitesse dans les zones traitées, leur tendance à séjourner dans ces zones et à y retourner après les avoir quittées.Les femelles de A. rhopalosiphi s'habituaient au miellat, mais s'en déshabituaient totalement en 90 minutes. Leurs réactions augmentaient avec la concentration en miellat jusqu'à 0,25 mg/l, sans qu'il y ait eu une nouvelle augmentation à 0,5 mg/l. La réaction était supprimée en absence de contact direct avec le papier. A. rhopalosiphi a repondu à quelques miellats produits par des non-hôtes aussi fortement qu'à celui de ses hôtes. A. rhopalosiphi a réagi au miellat produit par Metopolophium dirhodum, élevé sur milieu artificiel, et au milieu nutritiflui-même, aussi fortement qu'au miellat de M. dirhodum élevé sur du blé. Ainsi, la réponse d'A. rhopalosiphi à un miellat apparait comme n'étant pas due à la présence de substances chimiques spécifiques de plantes, ni, probablement, à des substances produites par les pucerons. Les résultats sont discutés en relation avec la localisation de l'hôte par A. rhopalosiphi.

The parasite Aphelinus asychisWalker (Hymenoptera: Aphelinidae) oviposits in all four instars of the pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum(Harris) (Homoptera: Aphididae). Searching females display a highly stereotyped sequence of behaviors when encountering a host. Once recognized, an aphid is examined and probed by the wasp with the everted ovipositor prior to oviposition. Oviposition success is influenced by aphid behavior that is related to aphid size and expressed through instarspecific escape and defense reactions. Being smaller and less able to defend themselves, first and early-second instars of pea aphid are more susceptible to successful parasitism than third and fourth instars, in that order. Observed patterns of preference by Aphelinus females for particular aphid species and instars reflect the outcome of behavioral interactions between the hosts and the parasites, rather than preference in the strict sense.  相似文献

The effect of Heterodera avenae infestation on early seminal and lateral root growth was examined in four oat genotypes differing in tolerance to H. avenae. Recently emerged seminal roots were inoculated with a range of H. avenae larval densities, then transferred a hydroponic system to remove the effect of later nematode penetration on root development. Intolerance to H. avenae was assessed in terms of impairment of seminal root extension resulting in fewer primary lateral roots emerging from the seminal root below the zone of juvenile penetration. Tolerant plants infested with H. avenae had longer lateral root systems than infested intolerant plants. The decline in lateral root growth below the penetration zone was partly offset by increased growth above. This did not contribute to tolerance, however, as there were no differences between cultivars for this feature. Nematodes induced earlier nodal root emergence in all cultivars. Nodal root development was most advanced on the most tolerant cultivar.  相似文献

One cultivar each of spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv. Arkas), oat (Avena sativa L. cv. Lorenz), and barley (Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Aramir) was chosen in order to study the relative contributions of individual bracts to the gas exchange of whole ears. The distribution and frequency of the stomata on the bracts were examined. Gas exchange was measured at normal atmospheric CO2 (330 bar) and at high CO2 (2000 bar) on intact ears and on ears from which glumes or lemmas and pleae (wheat and oat) or awns (barley) had been removed.The relative contribution to the gas exchange of the whole organ is highest for the awns of barley ears. In wheat, the contribution of the glumes is slightly higher than that of the inner bracts before anthesis. Two weeks after anthesis the inner bracts contribute more than the glumes. This tendency of increasing importance of the inner bracts is also found in oat ears, but the relative amount of CO2 uptake by the glumes is higher than in wheat. These changes during ontogeny result from the better supply of light to the inner bracts caused by opening of the ears' structures during grain filling, which in part compensates for the decreasing photosynthetic capacity.The ratio of the photosynthesis rate at high CO2 to that at normal CO2 is lower for the glumes of oat and for the awns of barley than for the other bracts.Abbreviations A330, A2000 net photosynthesis rate, A330 at normal atmospheric CO2 (330 bar), A2000 at high CO2 (2000 bar) - PPFD photosynthetic photon flux density - pc intercellular partial pressure of CO2  相似文献
