multibreak rearrangement the distal 1A-2B segment of the X chromosome of Drosophila melanogaster is juxtaposed to an inverted portion of the heterochromatin of chromosome 2. Analysis of mitotic chromosomes by a series of banding techniques has permitted us precisely to locate the heterochromatic
breakpoint of this translocation in the h42 region of 2R. Cloning and sequencing of the eu-heterochromatic junction revealed that the translocated 1A-2B fragment is joined to (AACAC)n repeats, which represent a previously undescribed satellite DNA in D. melanogaster. These repeated sequences have been estimated to account for about 1 Mb of the D. melanogaster genome. The repeats are located mainly in the Y chromosome and in the heterochromatin of the right arm of chromosome 2 (2Rh), where they are colocalized with the Stalker retrotransposon.

Trace elements and lipid peroxidation in 26 patients with chronic renal failure treated with hemodialysis and 25 healthy subjects

and after hemodialysis. Increased levels of plasma Cu, MDA, and erythrocyte Pb, Mn, Zn, and a significantly decreased plasma

and plasma Cu, Al, and MDA were significantly increased whereas both plasma and erythrocyte Se were lower in patients than

Zn levels and plasma Cu and Al were significantly higher after hemodialysis than before hemodialysis. In conclusion, levels

Isoprene is the primary biogenic hydrocarbon emitted from temperate deciduous forest ecosystems. The effects of varying photon flux density (PFD) and nitrogen growth regimes on rates of isoprene emission and net photosynthesis in potted aspen and white oak trees are reported. In both aspen and oak trees, whether rates were expressed on a leaf area or dry mass basis, (1) growth at higher PFD resulted in significantly higher rates of isoprene emission, than growth at lower PFD, (2) there is a significant positive relationship between isoprene emission rate and leaf nitrogen concentration in both sun and shade trees, and (3) there is a significant positive correlation between isoprene emission rate and photosynthetic rate in both sun and shade trees. The greater capacity for isoprene emission in sun leaves was due to both higher leaf mass per unit area and differences in the biochemical and/or physiological properties that influence isoprene emission. Positive correlations between isoprene emission rate and leaf nitrogen concentration support the existence of mechanisms that link leaf nitrogen status to isoprene synthase activity. Positive correlations between isoprene emission rate and photosynthesis rate support previous hypotheses that isoprene emission plays a role in protecting photosynthetic mechanisms during stress. 相似文献

The maize inbred line A188 is popularly used for the production of embryogenic cell lines. A188, maintained at the University of Minnesota, was found upon molecular analysis to contain 2 to 4 copies of a DNA sequence very similar in structure to transposable Mu1 elements, which have been implicated in Robertson's Mutator system. These Mu1-like elements are in the same chromosomal locations in sibling plants and in A188 cell cultures derived from them. This suggests that the elements are in an inactive state and do not undergo transposition. However, we have observed that they are not modified at the target sites for certain restriction endonucleases. Possible causes for the apparent lack of transposition of these Mu1-like elements in these A188 lines are discussed. Inasmuch as the elements do not transpose, they must be maintained in this line as homozygous Mendelian elements by self-pollination.Journal paper no. Ultrastructures of sieve elements of secondary phloem of 1–2 year old branchlet of tropical deciduous tree Dalbegia odorifera T. Chen growing on Hainan Island were studied under transmission electron microscope and a comparation was made between the sieve elements in leaf-bearing and leaf-absent period. During the leaf-bearing period, there was a tailed spindleshaped P-protein body in each mature sieve element. The main part of the P-protein body con sisted of a disordered fine fiber mass with two crystalline tails. The sieve elements had horizontal end walls with simple sieve plate. The inner layers of the wall near the sieve plate appeared intumescent, protruding into the sieve element lumen. During the leaf-absent period, a functional phloem remained about the same thickness as that during the leaf-bearing period. The sieve elements in the leaf-absent period contained normal protoplasts and the P-protein and the sieve plate pores had the same structures as those during the leaf-bearing period. Apart from the few works carried out in the North Tethyan basins, the palynological study of Mesozoic outcrops is still rare. Thus, the present study devoted to the Zahra Marls Formation (upper Bajocian) of the Rhar Roubane Mountains (northwestern Algeria), allowed us for the first time to inventory 44 different taxa. The palynological assemblages studied are strongly dominated by trilete spores (17 genera and 26 species), the most abundant of which are Concavissimisporites variverrucatus, Cyathidites australis and Cyathidites minor. Pollen grains are relatively frequent (10 genera and 16 species), while acritarchs and algae are represented by only two taxa (Micrhystridium sp. and Botryococcus sp.). In addition, the sporopollinic spectra dominated by the terrestrial elements are represented mainly by the spores of Pteridophyta and Bryophyta and gymnosperm pollen. 相似文献
