The effect of starvation-refeeding on protein mobilization in the lateral line, lateral (midway between lateral line and dorsum) and dorsal parts of white sturgeon ( Acipenser transmonlanus ) white epaxial muscle (type IIB) were compared by measuring muscle cross-sectional fibre areas. Effects on red (type I) and pink (type IIA) muscle were also studied. Fish starved throughout the experiment (5 weeks) showed a uniform response, i.e. the cross-sectional fibre area decreased at all sampled locations in the white muscle as well as in red and pink muscle. Fibre size in fish refed for 3 weeks after 2 weeks of fasting (S/F) was reduced mainly in the dorsal region of the white muscle. Starvation for 3 weeks after 2 weeks of initial feeding (F/S) also reduced fibre size mainly in the dorsal regions of the white muscle and in the pink muscle. The results indicate that in sturgeon exposed to short periods of low food availability, protein is utilized preferentially from trie more dorsal regions of the white epaxial muscle and from pink muscle. Protein in white muscle located closer to the lateral line and in red muscle seems to be spared. With the onset of refeeding, protein deposition occurred rapidly in pink muscle, but was delayed significantly in the dorsal part of the white muscle. 相似文献

Anaerobic energy capacity was evaluated by maximal oxygen deficit (MOD) as well as by blood gas and muscle biopsy variables during short exhausting running in six recreational (RR) and eight competitive sprint and middle distance runners (SMDR). On 3 days runs to exhaustion were executed. Two runs were performed at a treadmill gradient of 15% at speeds which resulted in exhaustion after approximately 1 (R15%, 1min) and 2–3 min (R15%, 2–3min), respectively. On the 3rd day, the subjects ran with the treadmill at a gradient of 1% at a speed which caused exhaustion after 2–3 min (R1%, 2–3min). The runner performance was assessed from 400 m [RR, median 64.8 (range 62.2–69.6) s; SMDR, median 49.4 (range 48.5–52.0) s] and 800 m [RR, median 158.8 (range 153.3–170.2) s; SMDR, median 115.2 (range 113.3–123.3) s] track times. Muscle biopsies from gastrocnemius muscle were obtained before and immediately after R15%, 2–3min, from which muscle lactate and creatine phosphate (CP) concentrations, fibre type distribution, capillaries per fibre, total lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity and the LDH isoenzyme pattern were determined. The MOD increased with the treadmill gradient and duration. During both treadmill and track runs, SMDR performance was superior to that of RR, but no significant differences were observed with respect to MOD, muscle fibre type distribution, total LDH activity, its iso-enzyme pattern, changes in muscle lactate or CP concentrations. However, after treadmill runs, peak venous lactate concentration and partial pressures of carbon dioxide were higher, and pH lower in SMDR. Also the number of capillaries per muscle fibre and the maximal oxygen uptake were larger in SMDR. The structure and distribution of collagen fibres in chordae tendineae, anterior leaflet and annulus fibrous of human mitral valve has been investigated using high and small angle X-ray diffraction. The molecular packing of collagen in native mitral valve components is very similar to that in native rat tail tendon. The distribution and orientation of collagen fibres in unstretched and stretched specimens has been deduced by the arcing of the high and small angle meridional reflections. Collagen fibres, which are aligned along the chordae tendineae, are preferentially distributed along the branchings of the chordae into the anterior leaflet and then course towards the annulus fibrous. However, in the anterior leaflet a considerable amount of collagen fibres are organized in a tridimensional isotropic network even after high deformation of the tissue. 相似文献

X-ray fibre diffraction techniques have been used to probe the structure of the microbial polysaccharide from Pseudomonas clodca (gellan gum). Stanhopeinae are a group of tropical American orchids characterized by euglossine bee pollination and lateral inflorescences stemming from the bases of pseudobulbs. Leaves are hypostomatal, and all stomatal configurations are tetracytic. Chlorenchyma is homogeneous and characterized by fibre bundles in adaxial/abaxial or adaxial/median/abaxial positions. Collateral vascular bundles occur in a single row and feature phloic and xylic sclerenchymatous caps and thin-walled bundle sheath cells. Fibre bundles and vascular sclerenchyma are accompanied by stegmata containing conical silica bodies. Pseudobulbs have thick-walled turbinate epidermal cells and ground tissue of smaller, living assimilatory cells and larger, dead water-storage cells. Fibre bundles are usually absent but occur in several genera. Collateral vascular bundles show phloic sclerenchyma, but xylic sclerenchyma occurs only in die larger vascular bundles. Phloic and xylic sclerenchyma are associated with stegmata containing conical silica bodies. Roots are velamentous. Velamen cell walls have fine, spiral thickenings. Exodermal cells are thin-walled. The cortex features scattered thick-walled cells and in some cases branched bars of secondary cell wall material. Endodermis is either u-or O-thickened, but pericycle is always O-thickened opposite the phloem. Vascular tissue consists of alternating strands of xylem and phloem surrounded by a matrix of thick-walled cells. Pith cells may be parenchymatous or sclerenchymatous. 相似文献

For the majority of the last century, commercial routes to regenerated cellulose fibres have coped with the difficulties of making a good cellulose solution by using an easy to dissolve derivative (e.g. xanthate in the case of viscose rayon) or complex (e.g. cuprammonium rayon). For the purposes of this paper, advanced cellulosic fibres are defined as those made from a process involving direct dissolution of cellulose. The first examples of such fibres have now been generically designated as lyocell fibres to distinguish them from rayons, and the first commercial lyocell fibre is Courtaulds' Tencel. 相似文献

Cymbideae comprise an assemblage of 28 genera nearly all of which are represented in this study. Their anatomy is relatively homogenous with the exception of Govenia , in which roots lack velamen and pseudobulb vascular bundles lack sclerenchyma, conditions that do not obtain in other genera. Marginal fibre bundles in leaves of Grammatophyllum and Porphyroglottis consist of clusters of thicker-walled, narrower, epidermis-facing fibres as well as thinner-walled, wider, mesophyll-facing fibres. This feature also occurs in some species of Maxillaria . Baculate tilosomes appear in the roots of a majority of genera in Cymbidieae, as they do in species of Maxillaria , confirming DNA analyses showing a close relationship between tribes Cymbidieae and Maxillarieae. Govenia is singled out both on anatomical and molecular grounds as being ill-placed in Cymbidieae. Using the shifted-excitation Raman difference spectroscopy technique and an optical fibre featuring a negative curvature excitation core and a coaxial ring of high numerical aperture collection cores, we have developed a portable, background and fluorescence free, endoscopic Raman probe. The probe consists of a single fibre with a diameter of less than 0.25 mm packaged in a sub-millimetre tubing, making it compatible with standard bronchoscopes. The Raman excitation light in the fibre is guided in air and therefore interacts little with silica, enabling an almost background free transmission of the excitation light. In addition, we used the shifted-excitation Raman difference spectroscopy technique and a tunable 785 nm laser to separate the fluorescence and the Raman spectrum from highly fluorescent samples, demonstrating the suitability of the probe for biomedical applications. Using this probe we also acquired fluorescence free human lung tissue data. 相似文献
