Introduction – The aerial parts of Zygophyllum album L. are used in folk medicine as an antidiabetic agent and as a drug active against several pathologies. In this work we present the chemical composition of Algerian essential oils obtained by microwave accelerated distillation (MAD) extraction, a solventless method assisted by microwave. Objective – Under the same analytical conditions and using GC‐FID and GC‐MS, the chemical composition of the essential oil of Zygophyllum album L. extracted by MAD was compared with that achieved using hydrodistillation (HD). Methodology – The extracted compounds were hydrosoluble, and they were removed from the aqueous solution by a liquid extraction with an organic solvent. Results – Employing MAD (100°C, 30 min), the essential oil contained mainly oxygenated monoterpenes with major constituents: carvone and α‐terpineol. However, most of the compounds present in the hydrodistilled volatile fraction were not terpene species, with β‐damascenone as a major constituent. Conclusion – The MAD method appears to be more efficient than HD: after 30 min extraction time, the obtained yields (i.e. 0.002%) were comparable to those provided by HD after 3 h extraction. MAD seems to be more convenient since the volatile fraction is richer in oxygenated monoterpenes, species that are recognised for their olfactory value and their contribution to the fragrance of the essential oil. In recent years, several small natural cyclopeptides and cyclodepsipeptides were reported to have antimycobacterial activity. Following this lead, a synthetic pathway was developed for a small series of 12-membered ring compounds with one amide and two ester bonds (cyclotridepsipeptides). Within the series, the ring system proved to be necessary for growth inhibition of Mycobacterium smegmatis and Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the low micromolar range. Open-chain precursors and analogues were inactive. The compounds modulated autophosphorylation of the mycobacterial protein kinase B (PknB). PknB inhibitors were active at µM concentration against mycobacteria while inducers were inactive. PknB regulates the activity of the mycobacterial reductase InhA, the target of isoniazid. The activity of the series against Mycobacterium bovis BCG InhA overexpressing strains was indistinguishable from that of the parental strain suggesting that they do not inhibit InhA. All substances were not cytotoxic (HeLa?>?5?µg/ml) and did not show any significant antiproliferative effect (HUVEC?>?5?µg/ml; K-562?>?5?µg/ml). Within the scope of this study, the molecular target of this new type of small cyclodepsipeptide was not identified, but the data suggest interaction with PknB or other kinases may partly cause the activity. 相似文献

Computational models have been of interest in biology for many years and have represented a particular approach to trying to understand biological processes and phenomena from a systems point of view. Much of the early work was rather abstract and high level and probably seemed to many to be of more philosophical than practical value. There have, however, been some advances in the development of more realistic models and the current state of computer science research provides us with new opportunities through both the emergence of models that can model seriously complex systems and also the support that modern software can give to the modelling process. This paper describes a few of the early simple models and then goes on to look at some new ideas in the area with a particular application drawn from the world of mycology. The aim of this study is to develop a framework for understanding the heterogeneity and uncertainties present in the usage phase of the product life cycle through utilizing the capabilities of an agent‐based modeling (ABM) technique. An ABM framework is presented to model consumers’ daily product usage decisions and to assess the corresponding electricity consumption patterns. The theory of planned behavior (TPB), with the addition of the habit construct, is used to model agents’ decision‐making criteria. A case study is presented on the power management behavior of personal computer users and the possible benefits of using smart metering and feedback systems. The results of the simulation demonstrate that the utilization of smart metering and feedback systems can promote the energy conservation behaviors and reduce the total PC electricity consumption of households by 20%. 相似文献

ABSTRACTMethyl green (MG) is an inexpensive, nonproprietary, traditional histological stain for cell nuclei. When bound to DNA and upon excitation with orange-red light, it fluoresces brightly in the far red region. We compared MG with ethidium bromide (EtBr), the conventional stain for DNA in gels, and Serva DNA stain G? (SDsG), a proprietary stain marketed as a safer alternative to EtBr for staining of electrophoresed DNA bands in agarose and polyacrylamide gels. DNA-MG fluorescence was recorded and 2.4 μg/ml MG produced crisp images of electrophoresed DNA after incubation for 10 min. Stain solutions were stable and detection limits for faint bands as well as relative densitometric quantitation were equivalent to EtBr. MG, EtBr and SDsG cost 0.0192, 0.024 and 157.5 US cents/test, respectively. MG is an effective stain for visualizing DNA in agarose and polyacrylamide gels. Its major advantages including low cost, comparable quality of staining, storage at room temperature, photo-resistance and low mutagenic profile outweigh its disadvantages such as staining of tracking dye and requirement for a gel documentation system with a red filter. 相似文献

On the basis of the discovery that the threosyl nucleoside phosphonate PMDTA is a potent anti-HIV compound, we synthesized several 4′-trifluoromethyl-5′-deoxyapiosyl nucleoside phosphonic acids and evaluated their anti-HIV activity. An efficient synthetic route was optimized, starting from an α-trifluoromethyl-α,β-unsaturated ester. Glycosylation of the purine nucleosidic bases with a glycosyl donor yielded modified nucleoside intermediates, which were then phosphonated and hydrolyzed to provide the targeted nucleoside analogs. Once synthesized, the anti-HIV and cytotoxic activities of each analog were evaluated. None of the analogs showed significant anti-HIV activity at concentrations up to 100 μM. 相似文献

A new two-phase kinetic model of sporulation of Clonostachys rosea in a new solid-state fermentation (SSF) reactor was proposed. The model including exponential and logistic models was applied to study the simultaneous effect of temperature, initial moisture content, medium thickness and surface porosity of the plastic membrane on C. rosea sporulation. The model fits experimental data very well and allows accurate predictions of spore production. The maximum spore production achieved 3.360 × 1010 (spores/gDM), about 10 times greater than that in traditional SSF reactor(data not shown). The new reactor can provide two times sporulation surface area. Moisture content can be adjusted by changing the surface porosity to meet the spore production. Two mixings carried out during fermentation makes medium loose and results in a mass of new sporulation surface area. Therefore, the new SSF reactor would have great potential for application in bulk spore production of fungal biocontrol agents. 相似文献
