Macrocystis pyrifera gametophytes were exposed in batch culture to varying mass concentrations of buried, sewage-contaminated, historically discharged sediment that had been sampled from two sites off Palos Verdes Peninsula, California. Significant gametophytic vegetative growth inhibition was detected in six days, using digital image analysis at sediment loadings ranging from 0.15 to 14.5 g in 500 mL nutrient-enriched seawater. Inhibition declined at low sediment loadings and increased at high loadings as cultures aged. Sediments corresponding to the historic emissions peak taken 2 km from the Joint Water Pollution Control Plant outfall inhibited vegetative growth more than did sediments sampled 13 km distant. Analysis showed elevated aqueous Cd(II), Cr(II) and p,p-DDE concentrations in high sediment-loading culture medium. Inhibition by Zn(II) alone was observed at similar concentrations in other experiments, but synergism or antagonism by other toxicants remains possible. 相似文献

Porosity, Eh and interstitital nitrogen compounds profiles are given for four locations in the eastern Skagerrak. Sediments down to 30 cm depth, i.e. postindustrial in age, were analysed. Rates of inorganic nutrient and oxygen fluxes, and gross community primary productivity were investigated using incubated cores in July, August and September 2001, in a seagrass meadow of Lake Illawarra, a barrier estuary in New South Wales, Australia. The results indicated that rates of gross primary productivity were high, varying from C = 0.62 to 1.89 g m–2 d–1; low P/R ratios of 0.28–0.48 define the system as heterotrophic and indicate that more carbon is respired than is produced. In order to determine the effect of macroalgae on O2 and nutrient fluxes, measurements were also conducted on cores from which the macroalgae had been removed. The results showed that the O2 fluxes during light incubations were significantly lower in the cores without macroalgae (P<0.01), indicating that macroalgae could be a significant contributor to the primary production in the lake. In general, nutrient fluxes showed a typical diurnal variation with an efflux from sediments in the dark and a reduced efflux (or uptake) in the light. Dissolved inorganic nitrogen (NO2
–+ NO3
–+NH4
+) net fluxes were directed from the sediments towards the water column and dominated by the NH4
+ fluxes (>80%). NO2
–+ NO3
– and o-P fluxes were always very low during the sampling period. The increasing tendency of net nutrient effluxes, especially NH4
+ from July to September, is consistent with the increase of the water temperature and seagrass biomasses. However, in September, significantly lower light, dark and net NH4
+ effluxes were found in the cores with macroalgae (SA-sediments) compared with the cores without macroalgae (S-sediments). Methodological investigations, using remains of Bosminidae and Chydoridae, were undertaken to study the development of ecosystems
in former river channels. Four biotopes from two former channels of different ages were used in this work. The Copepoda and
Cladocera populations characterized each of the 11 sampling stations in relation to ecological factors, which are linked to
the development stage in each ecosystem. Analysis of only the Bosminidae and Chydoridae populations presented practically
the same information as an analysis of the total populations of Copepoda and Cladocera. The distribution of Bosminidae and
Chydoridae remains taken from the surficial sediments at the deepest point of each former channel strongly resembled the distribution
of the living populations sampled at several stations during one full year. Therefore, Bosminidae and Chydoridae remains could

Ecological risk assessment (EcoRA) provides both a process and a framework to evaluate the potential for adverse ecological effects occurring as a result of exposure to contaminants or other stressors. EcoRA begins with problem formulation/hazard identification, progresses to effects and exposure assessment, and culminates with risk characterization (an estimate of the incidence and severity of any adverse effects likely to occur). Key components of EcoRA include determining: stressors/contaminants of concern; sensitive, exposed biota; and, appropriate tests and organisms for evaluating effects. Aquatic oligochaetes are not generally used directly in EcoRA because of three major perceptions. First, EcoRA personnel are generally not familiar with or comfortable using this group of organisms. Second, there is believed to be a paucity of widely accepted toxicity tests with these organisms. Third, their taxonomy is considered difficult and uncertain. In fact, aquatic oligochaetes potentially have great utility and relevance to EcoRAs because of factors including: their importance in the aquatic food chain (e.g. prey to fauna including fish and waterfowl; as a vector for contaminant movement through the food chain from bacteria); many species are widely distributed and well studied; representatives include fresh, estuarine and marine species; as a group, they range from sensitive to insensitive over a wide range of environmental insults; they have a long history of use in pollution monitoring and assessment; and, relevant toxicity and biaccumulation tests exist. Toxicity testing under defined conditions is appropriate for problem formulation while more realistic testing for effects assessment (e.g. microcosms) is logistically easier with this group of organisms than with others due to their relatively small size. A study on the profundal chironomids of the artificial Lake Campotosto (Central Italy) was carried out during the summer/early autumn of 1983 and 1984, in order to analyse their composition and community structure in relation to the lake trophic level assessed by water chemical analysis.A total of about 2000 specimens belonging to 15 taxa were collected during the study.Chironomus plumosus group andTanytarsus spp. dominated in 1983 and 1984, respectively, showing a competitive relationship probably due to the larval size. The functional feeding organization was mostly composed of collectors (percentages greater than 90%), revealing the presence of abundant fine organic deposits (FPOM). Diversity and evenness appeared to be negatively affected by the monotony of food, which seems to constitute the key factor in governing both the taxonomic and the trophic structure of chironomid fauna.A clear discrepancy between water chemical data and profundal chironomid analyses was observed in the assessment of the lake trophic level. Sediments exhibited eutrophicated conditions, whereas overlying waters indicated an oligotrophic status. 以孔目湖沉积物为研究对象, 应用七步连续提取法测定其中的不同形态磷, 探讨了该湖泊沉积物中各赋存形态磷的分布特征, 并对其进行了相关性分析。结果表明: 该湖泊遭受的磷内源负荷比较大, 磷污染严重; 沉积物中TP含量在2338.63-2954.98 mg•kg-1, 平均为2671.37 mg•kg-1; 沉积物中各形态磷含量从高到低依次为: Fe-P>De-P>Ca-P> OP>Al-P>Oc-P>Ex-P, 分别占TP的53.9%、28.7%、8.8%、6.2%、1.2%、0.9%、0.3%; 生物有效磷含量为1583.59 mg•kg-1, 占TP的59.28%; 沉积物中TP与Fe-P极显著相关, Oc-P与Ca-P和OP与Ca-P均相关, 而TP与Ex-P、Al-P、Ca-P和OP相关性较差, 说明沉积物中TP含量主要来自于Fe-P。这一研究结果为揭示小型湖泊富营养化发生机制提供了数据及理论支撑。 相似文献

remains provides the means for longterm observation of these Cladocera, both in terms of species and communities.
Chydorid analysis, as based on subfossil assemblages, is an analysis of community and provides direct observation of community
dynamics over extended periods of time. It has proved to be a valuable method to obtain information on the influence of environmental
factors and time on community characteristics.
Morphological variation inBosmina (Eubosmina) has been followed for some thousand years. This is of special interest for the evaluation of taxonomic rank (species, forms)
if closely related taxa have co-existed.
Bosmina successions, as well as shifts in the chydorid fauna, are related to environmental change. Thus, cladoceran analysis of lake
sediments provides information on the developmental history of lakes and allows observation of the effects of longterm environmental

首次报道了南极地区金图企鹅、阿德利企鹅、黑背鸥和巨海燕 4种海鸟 ,以及象海豹、威德尔海豹、毛皮海狮等 3种海豹新鲜粪便中的全 Hg含量 ,并对比了该区风化土壤的 Hg含量 ,其中 Hg含量水平依次为 :土壤背景值 <黑背鸥粪 <金图企鹅粪 <阿德利企鹅粪 <威德尔海豹粪 <象海豹粪 <巨海燕粪 <毛皮海狮粪 ,可见 ,相对于背景土壤生物粪明显富集 Hg元素。此外 ,结合上述粪便样品的 δ15 N测定结果 ,讨论了南极生物粪对 Hg的生物放大作用。研究表明 ,随着 δ15 N升高 ,即生物营养级的升高 ,其粪便的全 Hg含量有逐步增高的趋势 ,这证实了生物粪和生物肌体一样存在对 Hg的生物放大作用。文中还对南极阿德雷岛一个经过企鹅粪污染的 Y2湖泥芯剖面上 15个样品的 2 6种元素进行了聚类分析 ,结果表明 ,沉积物中的汞和企鹅粪的标型元素具有同源性 ,即沉积物中的汞主要是由企鹅粪带入的 ,由于生物粪对汞的生物富集作用 ,生物粪的混入会造成湖泊沉积物中汞含量的增高 相似文献
