A new model for divisible load problem is introduced. Its characteristics are analyzed. Optimal load distribution algorithms on the new model are presented for the tree-network and linear network. Applications that fit our model are briefly described. We show that our model outperforms the existing model such as Cheng–Robertazzi model. We show that the linear model is equivalent to a single-level tree network if the intermediate processors do not follow the store-and-forward communication model, but they follow the store-and-bypass model. This paper introduces the concept of store-and-bypass for divisible load theory.  相似文献

The perturbations of a water column at the deepest part of Lake Onogawa by a local heavy rainfall were analyzed. Mixing throughout the water column (18.8-m deep) was indicated by changes in the distribution of water temperature. This mixing perturbed the hypolimnetic seasonal distributions of dissolved components. All partic-ulate components peaked at 10 m, suggesting a center of inflowing water. Compared with background levels, particulate nitrogen (PN), particulate carbon (PC), particulate phosphorus (PP), and suspended solids (SS) increased from 16-fold for PN to 100-fold for SS. Soluble reactive phosphorus was the only dissolved component that formed a clear maximum at 10 m, as did the particulate components. Assuming that SS consists mainly of mineral particles, SS can be classified into three categories: (1) A rapidly sinking fraction, the main body of the loaded SS, with a sinking rate exceeding 1 m day−1 and radii exceeding 2–3 μm. (2) A slowly sinking fraction with a sinking speed of about 10 cm day−1 and radii of 0.7–0.9 μm; this fraction is calculated to be about 4% of the total loaded SS at most. Summary Stylar self-incompatibility barriers in L. peruvianum can be avoided if pollen germination and growth through immature pistils is promoted under specific environmental conditions approximately 2–3 days before the initiation of anthesis. Since immature stigmas lack sufficient exudate for pollen germination, the sandwiching of a thin layer of pollen germination medium between the stigma and a mineral oil layer containing pollen allows precocious pollen germination and some compatible pollen tube growth through the style. This procedure is rapid, inexpensive, applicable in the field, and makes efficient use of pollen. Consistent though low seed yields have been obtained. A high proportion of aborted seed, seedling lethals, and aberrant seedling phenotypes in selfed progeny indicate the presence of strong post-zygotic barriers to such selfing. No evidence for a reduction in the strength of the SI response with increasing pistil age was observed.  相似文献

Estimation of the purging of detrimental effects through inbreeding and selection is an important issue in conservation genetics opening new perspectives for the management of small populations. In 1997 Ballou proposed the ancestral inbreeding coefficient, which is calculated recursively via pedigree inbreeding coefficients, as a tool for evaluating the purging of deleterious alleles in zoo populations. The formula of Ballou assumes independence of inbreeding and ancestral inbreeding coefficients at any stage of the recursion. This study investigates the consequences of this inaccuracy on the estimation of true ancestral inbreeding, i.e. the proportion of alleles within a genome that has undergone inbreeding in the past. As an alternative we propose the estimation of ancestral inbreeding by the method of gene dropping. The methods are compared by stochastic simulation for various models with respect to mode of inheritance (neutral, detrimental and lethal alleles) and different settings for population size and initial allele frequencies. In all scenarios the proportion of alleles within a genome that has undergone inbreeding in the past was overestimated by Ballou’s formula. The overestimation was more pronounced in smaller populations but was not affected by genetic model or initial allele frequency. In contrast, the ancestral inbreeding coefficient calculated by gene dropping provided a robust estimate of ancestral inbreeding in most models and settings. A marginal overestimation was observed only in models with lethal alleles. Therefore, we recommend applying the gene dropping approach to estimate ancestral inbreeding coefficients.  相似文献

To investigate the prevalence of drug-resistance mutations, resistance to antiretroviral drugs, and the subsequent virological response to therapy in treatment-naive and antiretroviral-treated patients infected with HIV/AIDS in Henan, China, a total of 431 plasma samples were collected in Queshan county between 2003 and 2004, from patients undergoing the antiretroviral regimen Zidovudine + Didanosine + Nevirapine (Azt+Ddi+Nvp). Personal information was collected by face to face interview. Viral load and genotypic drug resistance were tested. Drug resistance mutation data were obtained by analyzing patient-derived sequences through the HIVdb Program (http://hivdb.stanford.edu). Overall, 38.5% of treatment-naive patients had undetectable plasma viral load (VL), the rate significantly increased to 61.9% in 0 to 6 months treatment patients (mean 3 months) (P<0.005) but again significantly decrease to 38.6% in 6 to 12 months treatment patients (mean 9 months) (P<0.001) and 40.0% in patients receiving more than 12 months treatment (mean 16 months) (P<0.005). The prevalence of drug resistance in patients who had a detectable VL and available sequences were 7.0%, 48.6%, 70.8%, 72.3% in treatment-naïve, 0 to 6 months treatment, 6 to 12 months treatment, and treatment for greater than 12 months patients, respectively. No mutation associated with resistance to Protease inhibitor (PI) was detected in this study. Nucleoside RT inhibitor (NRTI) mutations always emerged after non-nucleoside RT inhibitor (NNRTI) mutations, and were only found in patients treated for more than 6 months, with a frequency less than 5%, with the exception of mutation T215Y (12.8%, 6/47) which occurred in patients treated for more than 12 months. NNRTI mutations emerged quickly after therapy begun, and increased significantly in patients treated for more than 6 months (P<0.005), and the most frequent mutations were K103N, V106A, Y181C, G190A. There had been optimal viral suppression in patients undergoing treatment for less than 6 months in Queshan, Henan. The drug resistance strains were highly prevalent in antiretroviral-treated patients, and increased with the continuation of therapy, with many patients encountering virological failure after 6 months therapy.  相似文献

The effects of sexual selection on population mean fitness are unclear and a subject of debate. Recent models propose that, because reproductive success may be condition dependent, much of the genome may be a target of sexual selection. Under this scenario, mutations that reduce health, and thus nonsexual fitness, may also be deleterious with respect to reproductive success, meaning that sexual selection may contribute to the purging of deleterious alleles. We tested this hypothesis directly by subjecting replicate Drosophila melanogaster populations to two treatments that altered the opportunity for sexual selection and then tracked changes in the frequency of six separate deleterious alleles with recessive and visible phenotypic effects. While natural selection acted to decrease the frequency of all six mutations, the addition of sexual selection did not aid in the purging of any of them, and for three of them appears to have hampered it. Courtship and mating have harmful effects in this species and mate choice assays showed that males directed more courtship and mating behavior toward wild-type over mutant females, providing a likely explanation for sexual selection's cost. Whether this cost extends to other mutations (e.g., those lacking visible phenotypic effects) is an important topic for future research.  相似文献

We previously reported that in patients treated with highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) who achieve viral load (VL) suppression, low fluctuations of viral load over the threshold of detection (viral blips) more than 4 weeks apart occur at random, with a frequency that does not change with longer times of observation. The etiology of viral blips is currently unknown, but viral blip frequency inversely correlates with the decay of the latent reservoir, whose stability has been proposed as the major hurdle to HIV eradication. We show here that the distribution of viral blip amplitudes observed in a group of 272 patients successfully treated with highly active antiretroviral therapy appears to be power-law distributed. Such a distribution can be theoretically generated by randomly sampling the arrival of asynchronous and overlapping elementary pulses of viremia, with asymptotic exponential decay of kinetics, thus suggesting that the low fluctuations of viremia observed in patients during HAART treatment is, in part, a discrete phenomenon consistent with random activation of latently infected cells or release of virus and infected cells into the blood compartment from unknown sites of active viral replication.  相似文献

A simultaneous detection system to quantify HSV, HHV-6, and HHV-7 DNA via multiplex real-time PCR using different fluorochromes was developed. The minimum quantitative level established via this multiplex assay was four copies per reaction for HSV type 1, four copies for HHV-6, and three copies for HHV-7, respectively. The dynamic range encompassed at least six orders of magnitude. The system was specific and reproducible even in the presence of large amounts of other viral DNA. We then applied this multiplex real-time PCR assay to 105 CSF specimens obtained from subjects less than 15 years old in whom a diagnosis of viral encephalitis/encephalopathy was suspected on clinical grounds. The detection rate for each viral DNA was 6.7% for HSV, 9.5% for HHV-6, and 1.9% for HHV-7. These results indicate that our system is reliable and may be useful for the rapid diagnosis of viral encephalitis/encephalopathy.  相似文献

We provide the first phylogenetic evidence supporting complementary sex determination (CSD) as the ancestral mechanism for haplodiploidy in the Hymenoptera. It is currently not possible, however, to distinguish the evolutionary polarity of single locus (sl) CSD and multiple‐locus (ml) CSD given the available data. In this light, we discuss the seemingly maladaptive hypothesis of ml‐CSD ancestry, suggesting that collapse from ml‐CSD to sl‐CSD should remain a viable evolutionary hypothesis based on (i) likely weakening of frequency‐dependent selection on sex alleles under ml‐CSD and (ii) recent findings with respect to the evolutionary novelty of the complementary sex determiner gene in honeybees. Our findings help provide a phylogenetically informed blueprint for future sampling of sex determination mechanisms in the Hymenoptera, as they yield hypotheses for many unsampled or ambiguous taxa and highlight taxa whose further sampling will influence reconstruction of the evolutionary polarity of sex determination mechanisms in major clades.  相似文献
