A microbiological examination of the air has been carried out inside the Moscow Kremlin Cathedrals. Comparison studies on concentrations of airborne microorganisms were performed in different indoor environments -- with and without air-conditioning system, with many and without visitors. The highest values were found indoors with great public attendance and where no air-conditioning system was available. The Gram-positive bacteria were predominant in the air whereas the Gram-negative ones mainly were found on the surface of walls and of stone objects. We analyze the possible relationships between theannual levels of Gramineae pollination and cerealyields in Badajoz province (Spain). The pollinationparameters studied were the mean annual pollenconcentration and the concentrations of March, April,May, June, July, and August, and the yield parameterwas taken to be each crop's yield (in t/ha) as well asthe mean yield of all the province's cereal crops.The most notable results were: the relationshipbetween the June pollen concentrations and the yieldsof dryland cereals (wheat, barley, oats, rye, andtriticale), the lack of correlation between the pollenparameters and the yields of irrigated crops (maize,rice, and sorghum), and lastly the significantrelationship between the mean cereal yields and boththe mean annual pollination and the May and Juneconcentrations. The basilica of San Lorenzo in Lucina in Rome was built in the fifth century on the foundations of a Roman insula used for
dwellings and commercial activities, where the first Christian communities had held their meetings. This archaeological area
is still rather isolated since it can only be visited by groups for one/two hours once a month. Such a situation is ideal
for studying both the quantity of microorganisms in the air under undisturbed conditions and/or conveyed by visitors. The
biodeterioration of subterranean remains is determined by the development of bacteria, cyanobacteria, actinomycetes, algae
and fungi. On the walls of this underground archaeological area the main form of alteration is the efflorescence.
In order to compare the stone and airborne microflora, the microorganisms living on stone and the airborne ones have been
detected. Air samples were taken both during the visits and under non-turbulent conditions utilizing three sampling methods:
gravitational, intake by multi-stage impact and intake by single-stage impact.
The results have made it possible to determine the microbial content of the air, as well as the sampling schedule required
for rarely visited underground environments. Furthermore, a comparison of the three methods used showed that the adoption
of one or the other sampling method gave different complementary information on airborne microflora.

Although the involvement of T helper (Th1) cells is central to protection against intracellular bacteria, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the involvement of Th2 cells, characterized by potent interleukin (IL)-4 secretion in mycobacterial infection is still unclear. In order to clarify the role of IL-4 in murine tuberculosis, IL-4-deficient mutant mice, IL-4 knockout (IL-4 KO) mice, were utilized. The mice were infected with H37Rv, Kurono or BCG Pasteur via an airborne infection route by placing them in the exposure chamber of a Middlebrook airborne infection apparatus. Their capacity to control mycobacterial growth, granuloma formation, cytokine secretion, and nitric oxide (NO) production were examined. These mice developed large granulomas, but not necrotic lesions in the lungs, liver or spleen (P<0.05). This was consistent with a significant increase in lung colony-forming units (CFU). Compared with levels in wild-type mice, upon stimulation with mycobacteria, splenic IL-10 levels were low and IL-6 levels were intermediate, but interferon (IFN)-gamma and IL-12 levels were significantly higher. IL-18 levels were within the normal range. The level of NO production by alveolar macrophages of the IL-4 KO mice was similar to that of the wild-type mice. Granulomatous lesion development by IL-4 KO mice was inhibited significantly by treatment with exogenous recombinant IL-4. These findings were not specific to the IL-4 KO mice used. Our data show that IL-4 may play a protective role in defense against mycobacteria, although IFN-gamma and TNF-alpha play major roles in it. Our data do not rule out an IFN-gamma-independent function of IL-4 in controlling tuberculosis. 相似文献

以雪峰山武冈林场为研究对象,利用遥感数据和地面实测样地数据,研究机载激光雷达(LiDAR)估测中亚热带森林乔木层单木地上生物量的能力.利用条件随机场和最优化方法实现LiDAR点云的单木分割,以单木尺度为对象提取的植被点云空间结构、回波特征以及地形特征等作为遥感变量,采用回归模型估测乔木层地上生物量.结果表明: 针叶林、阔叶林和针阔混交林的单木识别率分别为93%、86%和60%;多元逐步回归模型的调整决定系数分别为0.83、0.81和0.74,均方根误差分别为28.22、29.79和32.31 t·hm-2;以冠层体积、树高百分位值、坡度和回波强度值构成的模型精度明显高于以树高为因子的传统回归模型精度.以单木为对象从LiDAR点云中提取的遥感变量有助于提高森林生物量估测精度.

Plants emit a variety of volatiles in response to herbivore attack, and (Z)‐3‐hexenol and its glycosides have been shown to function as defence compounds. Although the ability to incorporate and convert (Z)‐3‐hexenol to glycosides is widely conserved in plants, the enzymes responsible for the glycosylation of (Z)‐3‐hexenol remained unknown until today. In this study, uridine‐diphosphate‐dependent glycosyltransferase (UGT) candidate genes were selected by correlation analysis and their response to airborne (Z)‐3‐hexenol, which has been shown to be taken up by the tea plant. The allelic proteins UGT85A53‐1 and UGT85A53‐2 showed the highest activity towards (Z)‐3‐hexenol and are distinct from UGT85A53‐3, which displayed a similar catalytic efficiency for (Z)‐3‐hexenol and nerol. A single amino acid exchange E59D enhanced the activity towards (Z)‐3‐hexenol, whereas a L445M mutation reduced the catalytic activity towards all substrates tested. Transient overexpression of CsUGT85A53‐1 in tobacco significantly increased the level of (Z)‐3‐hexenyl glucoside. The functional characterization of CsUGT85A53 as a (Z)‐3‐hexenol UGT not only provides the foundation for the biotechnological production of (Z)‐3‐hexenyl glucoside but also delivers insights for the development of novel insect pest control strategies in tea plant and might be generally applicable to other plants. 相似文献

目的 探讨2007年5月~ 2011年4月鄂州市气传致敏真菌和支气管哮喘关系,以了解该地区支气管哮喘情况.方法 运用暴片调查法和暴皿调查法统计和记录鄂州市气传致敏真菌的种类及数量.选择该时期内鄂州市100例支气管哮喘患者采用真菌变应原浸液作过敏原皮试发现有35例患者皮内试验阳性,将35例发作期患者和40例稳定期支气管哮喘患者行曲霉特异性IgE测定.结果 100例支气管哮喘患者皮内实验组阳性35例,阳性率为35%,而在35例患者中IgE阳性有31例,检测符合率为88.58%,稳定期患者中阳性反应例数2例,阳性率为5%,两组阳性率比较差异具有显著性(P<0.05).结论 鄂州市气传致敏真菌和支气管哮喘密切相关,主要致病菌为曲霉,是支气管哮喘的致敏原之一,需要注意环境卫生以减少气传致敏真菌的数量. 相似文献

An aerobiological study was performed to evaluate the potential exposure of animals and workers to dust constituents generated during routine animal house work. Different rooms of air conditioned (A, control) and passively ventilated (B, non-air conditioned) animal facilities were sampled, in order to evaluate total airborne culturable fungi and bacteria, fungal spore concentrations and particle levels. Airborne room particles were analyzed gravimetrically and for endotoxin content. All parameters, except for culturable fungi, were higher in facility B and statistically significant, with respect to those from the control facility A. Median values for airborne particle concentration, endotoxin and fungal spores in facility B were: 115 µg m–3, 25 EU m–3, and 2173 spores m–3, respectively. Median values for facility A were: 66 µg m–3, 9 EU m–3, and 248 fungal spores m–3. Broncheoalveolar lavage from rats kept in the rat room of B, presented median concentrations of total cells and lactate dehydrogenase, higher than those found in the control facility (4.4 × 105
vs. 1.1 × 105 and 2.7 UmL-1
vs. 0.39 UmL–1, respectively). Values of total and biological particles of both facilities, as well as the time spent in different rooms, showed that worker exposure was higher during cage washing. It was especially high in the passively ventilated facility (airborne particles 686 µg m–3 3.5 h–1
vs. 976 µg m–3 3.5 h–1, endotoxin 70 EU m–3 3.5 h–1
vs. 108 EU m–3 3.5 h–1). The type of basidiospores and ascospores found, as well as the significant correlation between particle levels and endotoxin contents suggests that wood chip bedding disturbance during cage washing is an important source for airborne biological particles. The changes in broncheoalveolar lavage components found in rats from these facilities and previously reported changes in pro-inflammatory cellular responses found in workers, indicate that these relatively low levels of exposure are enough to induce a biological response. Recent advances in remote sensing such as airborne laser scanning have revolutionized our ability to accurately map forest canopy gaps, with huge implications for tracking forest dynamics at scale. However, few studies have explored how canopy gaps vary among forests at different successional stages following disturbances, such as those caused by logging. Moreover, most studies have focused exclusively on the size distribution of gaps, ignoring other key features such as their spatial distribution and shape. Here, we test a series of hypotheses about how the number, size, spatial configuration, and geometry of gaps vary across a logging disturbance gradient in Malaysian Borneo. As predicted, we found that recently logged forests had much higher gap fraction compared to old-growth forests, a result of having both a greater total number of gaps and a higher proportion of large gaps. Regrowing forests, on the other hand, fell at the opposite end of the spectrum, being characterized by both fewer and smaller gaps compared to nearby old-growth forests. Across all successional stages gaps were found to be spatially clustered. However, logging significantly diluted the degree of spatial aggregation and led to the formation of gaps with much more complex geometries. Our results showcase how logging and subsequent regrowth substantially alter not just the number and size of gaps in a forest, but also their spatial arrangement and shape. Linking these emergent patterns to their underlying processes is key to better understanding the impacts of human disturbance on the structure and function of tropical forests. 相似文献

In the course of composting biological waste, concentrations of various thermophilic and thermotolerant microorganisms increase. Moving piles of compost results in increased emissions of Actinomycetes and fungi. The present investigation deals with the reduction of airborne microorganism emission and immission in large-scale composting plants with open piles. Simple measures were introduced in order to reduce the release of bioaerosols when turning piles and the release of dust and bioaerols at large. These measures included the sealing of turning machinery with rubber mats, the wetting of piles before and after turning and regular cleaning and wetting driveways during the dry season.Concentrations of airborne microorganisms during the summer season were determined on 5 days before and after the introduction of emission-reducing measures using the six-stage Andersen cascade sampler. The investigation showed that following the introduction of emission-reducing measures there was, at all locations, a highly significant reduction not only of all culturable indicator organisms (thermophilic actinomycetes and Aspergillus fumigatus) but also of total microorganism concentrations (p < 0,001). The introduction of the simple emission-reducing measures mentioned above, however, reduced the immission in the vicinity of the plant to such a degree that the natural background levels were reached at a distance of 150 m. 相似文献
