This study evaluates the effect of agronomic uncertainty on bioenergy crop production as well as endogenous commodity and biomass prices on the feedstock composition of cellulosic biofuels under a binding mandate in the United States. The county‐level simulation model focuses on both field crops (corn, soybean, and wheat) and biomass feedstocks (corn stover, wheat straw, switchgrass, and Miscanthus). In addition, pasture serves as a potential area for bioenergy crop production. The economic model is calibrated to 2022 in terms of yield, crop demand, and baseline prices and allocates land optimally among the alternative crops given the binding cellulosic biofuel mandate. The simulation scenarios differ in terms of bioenergy crop type (switchgrass and Miscanthus) and yield, biomass production inputs, and pasture availability. The cellulosic biofuel mandates range from 15 to 60 billion L. The results indicate that the 15 and 30 billion L mandates in the high production input scenarios for switchgrass and Miscanthus are covered entirely by agricultural residues. With the exception of the low production input for Miscanthus scenario, the share of agricultural residues is always over 50% for all other scenarios including the 60 billion L mandate. The largest proportion of agricultural land dedicated to either switchgrass or Miscanthus is found in the southern Plains and the southeast. Almost no bioenergy crops are grown in the Midwest across all scenarios. Changes in the prices for the three commodities are negligible for cellulosic ethanol mandates because most of the mandate is met with agricultural residues. The lessons learned are that (1) the share of agricultural residue in the feedstock mix is higher than previously estimated and (2) for a given mandate, the feedstock composition is relatively stable with the exception of one scenario.  相似文献

通过林间接种式放菌及其后一周年的野外调查,从林间采集到30种寄主昆虫及从土壤、落叶和气流中分离到119株球孢白僵菌.酯酶同工酶分析表明,它们属于32个不同酯酶型,呈现出丰富的遗传多样性.释放菌株所属的酯酶型02包括从11种昆虫上分离出的18个菌株,表明林间释放的菌株已成功地在不同寄主昆虫种群中宿存下来,并以常发的地方病状态存在于松毛虫及松灰象甲等12种昆虫种群之中;当林间目标寄主缺乏时,其它寄主可将食物链维系下去.其它酯酶型分别包括1~23个菌株.一周年内的寄主转移动态结果表明,球孢白僵菌在松林生态系统中不同寄主间可转移寄生.每个酯酶型中的菌株对松毛虫的毒力相差很大.表明球孢白僵菌在松林中的延续和扩散流行不是1条路线,每个酯酶型至少代表食物网上的1条支链.有些环节的寄主连接了不同的酯酶型,使松林中食物网变得十分复杂.另外,从土壤、枯枝落叶层、林冠层和空气中分离到的球孢白僵菌分属于不同的酯酶型,表明松林中还存在着复杂的腐生食物链,有利于松毛虫及其它害虫的持续控制.  相似文献

Agroecosystems cover more than one quarter of the global land area (ca. 50 million km2) as highly simplified (e.g. pasturelands) or more complex systems (e.g. polycultures and agroforestry systems) with the capacity to support higher biodiversity. Increasingly more information has been published about primates in agroecosystems but a general synthesis of the diversity of agroecosystems that primates use or which primate taxa are able to persist in these anthropogenic components of the landscapes is still lacking. Because of the continued extensive transformation of primate habitat into human‐modified landscapes, it is important to explore the extent to which agroecosystems are used by primates. In this article, we reviewed published information on the use of agroecosystems by primates in habitat countries and also discuss the potential costs and benefits to human and nonhuman primates of primate use of agroecosystems. The review showed that 57 primate taxa from four regions: Mesoamerica, South America, Sub‐Saharan Africa (including Madagascar), and South East Asia, used 38 types of agroecosystems as temporary or permanent habitats. Fifty‐one percent of the taxa recorded in agroecosystems were classified as least concern in the IUCN Red List, but the rest were classified as endangered (20%), vulnerable (18%), near threatened (9%), or critically endangered (2%). The large proportion of threatened primates in agroecosystems suggests that agroecosystems may play an important role in landscape approaches to primate conservation. In recent years, RNA interference (RNAi) has been validated as a viable approach for functional genetic studies in non‐model organisms. In this report we demonstrate the efficacy of RNAi in the tarnished plant bug, Lygus lineolaris (Palisot de Beauvois) (Miridae: Hemiptera). A L. lineolaris inhibitor of apoptosis gene (LlIAP) has been identified and cloned. The translated sequence encodes a 381 amino acid protein similar to other insect IAPs and contains two conserved baculovirus inhibitor of apoptosis protein repeat (BIR) domains. Microinjection of double stranded RNA (dsRNA) corresponding to two disparate portions of the gene resulted in decreased LlIAP mRNA quantities relative to controls. Both nymphs and adult specimens injected with IAP dsRNA exhibited significantly reduced lifespan compared with those injected with non‐insect dsRNA (eGFP). Thus, RNAi‐mediated knockdown of LlIAP expression has been correlated with a lethal phenotype in adults and nymphs.  相似文献

城乡结合部自然和农业生态系统是确保城市生态安全的重要基础。研究快速城市化背景下城乡结合部自然和农业景观的时空演变规律和驱动因素,能够为相关规划的编制和保护政策的制定提供科学支撑。以北京市三个典型的城乡结合部乡镇为例,通过对1999、2004和2010年三期SPOT遥感影像的解译,获取三镇三个时期土地利用/覆盖(Land Use/Land Cover,LULC)数据。在此基础上,借助Arc GIS空间叠加功能和土地利用转移矩阵,分析1999—2010年三镇LULC的时空变化特征;并通过空间自相性和景观连通性分析,研究近十年来三镇建设用地的空间聚集特征以及自然和农业景观空间连通性的变化,分析城市扩张对三镇自然和农业景观格局和稳定性的影响。最后,采用定量和定性相结合的方法,分析三镇自然和农业景观变化的驱动力。结果表明,1999—2010年三镇经历了剧烈的LUCC过程,建设用地、林地和草地面积大幅增加,伴随的是农业用地和水域面积的急剧减少。各种土地利用类型之间都存在着相互转移,特别是农业用地向建设用地、林地和草地,以及林地向建设用地转移明显。新增建设用地大多通过侵占原有建设用地周边的农业用地和林地,而实现"成片蔓延式"扩张;并造成了三镇自然和农业景观连通性的急剧下降,危及到该区域生态系统结构的完整性和功能的持续性。社会经济发展、土地利用规划、公共政策等共同决定着三镇LUCC的结构、规模和空间分布,是三镇自然和农业景观格局演变的主要驱动力。  相似文献

In dimorphic species, sexual habitat segregation is generally explained by the differences in nutritional needs or by a trade‐off between fulfilling food requirements and avoiding predation. However, it remains unclear whether predation risk is strong enough to drive the differences in habitat use between sexes as predicted by the predation sensitivity hypothesis. Here we test in a monomorphic species, the brown hare (Lepus europaeus), the prediction that abundance of the gender more sensitive to predation is higher in safer habitat. We used data on 1645 individually marked hares in western Poland during autumn–winter seasons of 1966/1967–1978/1979 to estimate sex‐specific annual survival rates. We analyzed the stomach contents of 134 foxes shot in 1965/1966–1994/1995 to evaluate fox predation on hares. Finally, we employed data on 26 790 hares live‐trapped in 1965/1966–1994/1995 to analyze hare sex ratio across habitats. We found that male annual survival rate was lower than that of females and that the predation risk by foxes on hares was lower in agricultural than forest habitat. Our finding, that males were more often trapped by nets in agricultural than the forest habitat, provides indirect evidence for the predation sensitivity hypothesis. We conclude that predation risk can be a driving force for habitat‐specific sex ratio in a monomorphic species such as the brown hare.  相似文献

【目的】口岸截获有害生物的数据分析可为进境农林产品检疫监管提供依据。【方法】对澳大利亚自2010至2015年输华农林产品及其入境口岸有害生物截获情况做综合分析。【结果】2010—2015年从澳大利亚输华农林产品货物中截获各类检疫性有害生物115种。其中,粮谷中以截获的杂草种类和截获频次最多,分别达到59种和31801批次;木材及木制品中以截获的蠹虫最多,达43种,共2456批次;从水果和种苗中截获病原菌6种,共79批次。另外,从入境旅客携带物中共截获检疫性有害生物9种,共66批次。【结论】澳大利亚输华农林产品可携带的检疫性有害生物自口岸传入的风险较高,相关部门应加强口岸检疫工作。  相似文献

Pollution of agricultural land by heavy metals has imposed an increasingly serious risk to environmental and human health in recent years. Heavy metal pollutants may enter the human food chain through agricultural products and groundwater from the polluted soils. Progress has been made in the past decade on phytoremediation, a safe and inexpensive approach to remove contaminants from soil and water using plants. However, in most cases, agricultural land in China cannot afford to grow phytoremediator plants instead of growing crops due to food supply for the great population. Therefore, new and effective methods to decrease the risk of heavy metal pollution in crops and to clean the contaminated soils are urgently needed. If we can find crop germplasms (including species and varieties) that accumulate heavy metals in their edible parts, such as the leaves of vegetables or grains of cereals, at a level low enough for safe consumption, then we can grow these selected species or varieties in the lands contaminated or potentially contaminated by heavy metals. If we can find crop germplasms that take in low concentrations of heavy metals in their edible parts and high content of the metals in their inedible parts, then we can use these selected species or varieties for soil remediation. In this study, the feasibility of the method is assessed by analyzing Pb concentrations in edible and inedible parts of 25 varieties of maize (Zea mays) grown in Pb-contaminated soils. The soil concentrations of Pb were 595.55 mg/kg in the high Pb exposed treatment and 195.55 mg/kg in the control. The results showed that the Pb concentrations in different tissues were in the order of root > shoot ≅ leaf > grain. Compared with the control, the Pb concentrations in root, shoot and leaf were greatly increased under the high Pb exposed condition, while the increments of Pb concentration in grain were relatively lower. Under the high Pb exposure, the grain Pb concentrations of 12 varieties exceeded the maximal Pb limitation of the National Food Hygiene Standard of China (NFHSC) and were inedible. This indicates that there is a high Pb pollution risk for maize grown on Pb polluted sites. Although 22 of the 25 tested varieties had harvest loss under the highly Pb stressed condition, ranging from 0.86%–38.7% of the grain biomass acquired at the control, the average harvest loss of all the tested varieties was only 12.6%, which is usually imperceptible in normal farming practices. Therefore the risk of Pb pollution in maize products cannot be promptly noticed and prevented based only on the outcome of the harvest. However, we did find that 13 of the 25 tested varieties had grain Pb concentrations lower than the limitation of the NFHSC. It is, therefore, possible to reduce the pollution risk if these favorable varieties are used for maize production in Pb-contaminated or potentially contaminated agricultural lands. Pb concentrations in vegetative tissues (root, stem and leaf) were significantly correlated with each other, while Pb concentrations of each vegetative tissue were not significantly correlated with that of grain. Among the 25 tested varieties, some varieties had Pb concentrations in grain lower than (No.1–3 and No.6) or slightly above (No.4) the limitation of the NFHSC, while their Pb concentrations in the vegetative tissues were among the highest. When excluding these varieties, correlations between the Pb concentrations of grain and those of vegetative tissues of the rest of the tested varieties became highly significant. In addition, variety No. 1 had the lowest harvest loss under high Pb exposed, and the highest Pb accumulation in vegetative tissues (51.69 mg/plant, 12 times as much as in the control). Similar features were also observed in varieties No.3, No.3 and No.6, which absorbed Pb for 36–42 mg/plant under high Pb exposed. We recommend these varieties of maize to be used for bioremediation of Pb contaminated soil and crop production at the same time. This review highlights a number of reasons why insect diapause merits attention. Knowledge of diapause is essential for understanding the seasonal biology of an insect species, and such information is also required for the development of effective pest management strategies; manipulating domesticated species used in pollination and silk production; developing accurate predictive models used to forecast periods of pest abundance; and increasing the shelf‐life of parasitoids and predatory mites used in the biological control industry. Mechanisms used by diapausing insects to survive low temperature may provide tips for cryopreserving insect stocks, a vital need within the research community. Diapause also presents an interesting model for probing fundamental questions in development, and we are indebted to diapause studies for early insights into insect hormones. In addition, I argue that insect diapause may provide insights into questions on aging, obesity and disease transmission, and diapausing insects offer a potentially rich source of pharmaceutical agents that may contribute to improvement of human health.  相似文献
