Detailed enzymatic properties of the ureido ring synthetase purified from Pseudomonas graveolens were investigated. Nucleotide specificity studies indicated that CTP, UTP, GTP, and ITP were each tenth to one-fifth as active as ATP. The effect of substrate concentration was examined. The Km values for 7,8-diaminopelargonic acid, biotin diaminocarboxylic acid, NaHCO3, ATP, and MgCl2 were 1 × 10?4 M, 4 × 10?5 M, 1 × 10?2 m, 5 × 10?5 M, and 3 × 10?3 M, respectively. It was elucidated that only ADP was produced from ATP in both the reaction of desthiobiotin synthesis from 7,8-diaminopelargonic acid and biotin synthesis from biotin diaminocarboxylic acid. The reaction was remarkably inhibited by Ni2+, Cd2+, Cu2+, Ag+, and As3+, while Mn2+ remarkably enhanced the enzyme reaction. The reaction was remarkably inhibited by metal-chelating reagents. It was elucidated that ADP had a competitively inhibiting effect on this enzyme reaction. 7,8-DiaminopeIargonic acid, which is the substrate for the desthiobiotin synthesis, competitively inhibited the biotin synthesis from biotin diaminocarboxylic acid. Floral organs are widely believed to enhance the pollination and reproductive success of angiosperms. However, the functional implication of some floral structures is still unknown. In this study, we explored the functional role of staminal appendages on male and female reproductive success of Himalayan Roscoea spp. and tested if their function differed between species with biotic pollination and autonomous selfing. Phenotypic manipulation is a powerful approach to test the functional effect of a particular trait on plant fitness. We compared various proxies of pollination success between intact flowers and flowers with manually excised staminal appendages. We found that the rate of visitation did not differ between intact and manipulated flowers. Our results revealed that in outcrossing Roscoea spp., the staminal appendages act as triggering devices to facilitate pollen release and deposition and also to manipulate the foraging position of pollinators to ensure both male and female reproductive success. In contrast, in autonomously selfing Roscoea spp., the removal of staminal appendages did not affect any aspect of pollination processes. Our results suggest that the staminal appendages are an integral component of outcrossing in Roscoea spp. and are maintained by selection pressure through both male and female reproductive success. This study provides important insights on how variation in breeding systems can provoke changes in the structure and function of floral organs among congeners. 相似文献

We present new comparative morphological and ontogenetic data on flowers and bulbils of Globba (Zingiberaceae) to clarify their homologies. Globba flowers are characteristically Zingiberaceous, possessing a single stamen and epigynous (``supragynopleural') nectaries,
but are unusual as the anther bears triangular lateral outgrowths and the style is held tightly in position across the curvature
of the filament like a bowstring. Floral ontogeny in Globba is similar to other Zingiberaceae. Characteristic features, such as anther wings, occur late in development, shortly before

综述了姜科Zingiberaceae植物繁育系统和传粉生物学方面的研究及其进展。姜科有50余属1500多种,是一个泛热带分布的、动物传粉的单子叶植物大科。姜科植物中存在着雌花两性花异株、雄花两性花同株、花柱卷曲性、雄性先熟、自交不亲和等多种性表达方式和花部机制。姜科植物重要的传粉动物包括各种蜂类、天蛾、蝴蝶、鸟类等,不同的传粉动物对应不同的花部特征。在相对有限的研究中,姜科植物展现出了一些独特的传粉和繁育机制,在豆蔻属Amomum、山姜属Alpinia等植物中发现的花柱卷曲性被认为是植物界中一种独特的促进异交的行为机制,在对黄花大苞姜Caulokaempferia coenobialis的研究中发现了植物界中一种全新的花粉滑动自花传粉机制,这些新的研究和发现丰富了我们对姜科植物传粉和繁育系统多样性的认识。本文提出了今后姜科植物繁殖生物学研究的建议:对更多未知姜科植物类群的传粉和繁育系统进行研究;从系统发育的角度开展姜科不同类群植物的传粉和繁育系统的演化研究;对花柱卷曲性这一独特的性多态现象开展全面深入的研究。 相似文献

Roscoea cangshanensis M. H. Luo, X. F. Gao & H. H. Lin, a new species of the Zingiberaceae from Yunnan, China, is described and illustrated. The new species is related to R. forrestii Cowley in habit, but differs in having 2-lobed labellum, each lobe 2-lobulate, base narrowed to a stalk with white lines, and narrower leaf blade, (2–)7–24×1.5–2.5 cm, with base narrow to petiole-like.
