1986-1988年的3-5月间,在黑龙江省林甸县对白枕鹤的领域进行了研究。三年中,对8个巢的领域研究结果表明,白枕鹤多年连续利用同一领域,占据的最大领域面积为10.7平方公里,平均不超过7.0平方公里,并随繁殖过程而缩小,至雏期活动和防御范围只有1.5平方公里左右。多数白枕鹤的领域内包括一片耕地为固定觅食区,但小于无耕地的领域面积。  相似文献

A floristic classification for monsoon rain forest vegetation in the Northern Territory, Australia, is derived based on comprehensive floristic inventory and environmental data. Allied aims include relating the floristic classification to Australia-wide structural and floristic schema, documenting species richness, and exploring site-environmental relations. TWINSPAN classification and complementary DCA analysis of a data set comprising 1219 sites x 55 9 rain forest taxa yielded 16 floristic assemblages. A diagnostic floristic key to these groups is presented. Eight groups describe rain forests associated with sites of perennial moisture; eight groups are associated with seasonally dry landforms. The structural typology of Australian rain forests is found wanting when applied to relatively simple monsoon rain forest communities. Rain forest patches are mostly less than 5 ha in size; maximum species richness is ca. 135 species per patch. Two major environmental gradients are identified through indirect gradient analysis: a primary latitudinal-moisture gradient and a subsidiary topographic-drainage gradient. Given the demonstrated tolerance of monsoon rain forest to a broad range of environmental conditions, the question remains: why is this vegetation type so restricted in occurrence in northern Australia?  相似文献

Summary Migrant Rufous Hummingbirds (Selasphorus rufus) defend nectar resources at stopover sites while replenishing fat reserves needed for migratory flights. During late summer in the Sandia Mountains, central New Mexico, they defend the wasp- and bee-pollinated Scrophularia montana from other hummingbirds. Both hummingbirds and hymenopterans exploit Scrophularia nectar during the early part of its flowering period. As summer colony growth increases the densities of the eusocial hymenopterans by 100–150%, their exploitation of Scrophularia nectar lowers its mean standing crop in flowers by 200–300%. Sometime during the summer, Rufous Hummingbirds abandon and do not further use this resource for the remaining 3–4 weeks of its flowering period. The abandonment always occurs when the mean standing crop of nectar is approximately 0.2–0.3 L/ flower. This paper describes a model of Rufous Hummingbird energetics, that shows abandonment occurred 1–3 days after they passed the threshold at which the resource could have provided their minimum daily energy requirements. I suggest that constraints imposed by a highly competitive social environment severely reduced the options available to the hummingbirds, and caused them to continue to defend a resource that could no longer meet their energetic requirements.  相似文献

This study is based on the analysis of the chorological spectra from 19 vegetation types obtained from a numerical classification of ca. 400 phytosociological relevés taken during a vegetation survey in the Yukon Territory (NW Canada).All vegetation types are well characterized in terms of their chorological features. This allowed an ecological-historical interpretation of the vegetation in the study area. The distribution of the various chorological categories within the vegetation types is strongly correlated with the main environmental influences, whose action led to the present floristical and vegetational characteristics of the area, such as glaciation, fire, permafrost and water availability.The results show how the phytosociological approach constitutes an effective methodological tool for clarifying the phytogeographical aspects in the historical-ecological interpretation of a large area.Nomenclature follows Hultén (1968), otherwise author names are specified.The field work was completed in the summer of 1978. Llandoverian and Wenlockian graptolite zonesin northern and Arctic Canada comprise the Sakmaricus-Laqueus Zone of latest Llandoverian age, Centrifugus Zone of earliest Wenlockian age, Rigidus Zone of about mid-Wenlockian age, possibly the Perneri Zone of late Wenlockian age, and the Testis-Lundgreni Zone of very late Wenlockian age.Species of Cyrtograptus described and illustratedin this study are C. centrifugus, C. cf. insectus, C. aff. lapworthi, C. laqueus, C. lundgreni, C. sp. (aff. C. lundgreni), C. mancki, C. radians, C. rigidus, C. sakmaricus, C. solaris n. subsp.? and C. sp. (similar to C. murchisoni bohemicus). Urine is one of the major media for intraspecific chemical communication in mice. The urination pattern is dependent both on the mice's hormonal and social status. The urination pattern and the morphology of the urinary tract were examined in mice following hormonal manipulations. In the first experiment, we compared pairs of intact and castrated males: intact males urinated earlier when exposed to a new environment, with a greater number of drops that were smaller than those of castrated males. In the second experiment, groups of intact males, castrated, testosterone-supplemented castrated, and isolated intact males were compared. The micturition pattern of isolated intact males consisted of numerous small droplets of urine, with a high volume of urine retained in the bladder after voiding. This also applied to grouped intact males and testosterone-treated castrated mice, while castrated mice voided a larger fraction of bladder content. Bladder weight was higher in intact males and testosterone-treated castrated males, as compared to castrated males. In the third experiment, ovary-intact and testosterone-treated intact females were compared. Testosterone-treated ovary-intact females retained a larger quantity of urine in the bladder and also had a larger bladder compared to ovary-intact females. Testosterone thus induces the morphological modifications of the urinary tract necessary for the dominant male urination pattern, which is an increase in postvoid urinary residual volume and bladder weight. As evidenced from the comparison of histological sections from intact, castrated, and testosterone-treated castrated males, the increase in bladder weight was mainly due to the bladder muscular mass.  相似文献

鸟类鸣唱曲目的大小被认为是雄鸟质量的指标,其与领域维持时间的关系在多个鸟种中进行过检验。从单项研究的结果看,曲目与领域维持时间的关系在种间甚至同一物种的种群间均有较大的差异。为了克服单项研究功效低的缺陷,本文采用Meta分析,检验鸣禽曲目大小与领域维持时间的关系。共收集到10篇文献,涉及大山雀(Parus major)、大苇莺(Acrocephalus arundinaceus)、歌带鹀(Melospiza melodia)和强脚树莺(Horornis fortipes)共12个种群的研究。Meta分析发现,曲目大的个体领域维持时间显著长于曲目小的个体(Cohen′s d效应量为0.60,95%置信区间为0.38~0.82)。通过Meta回归,发现曲目大小与领域维持时间的关联不随繁殖地纬度而变化(斜率为0.00,95%置信区间为﹣0.02~0.02),但在平均曲目大的种群中曲目大小与领域维持时间的关联较弱(斜率为﹣0.14,95%置信区间为﹣0.30~0.03)。本研究可为了解鸟类曲目的功能及其演化提供资料。  相似文献

Synopsis The functional analysis of feeding, territory defense and nest-directed activities by reproductively mature male three-spined sticklebacks, Gasterosteus aculeatus, was carried out under controlled laboratory conditions. Territorial males were placed in motivational conflict between feeding and nest-directed activities by making performance of the two necessary activities spatially incompatible. During a limited time each day they had to choose between staying close to their nests to carry out nest-directed activities, and moving into a separate compartment of the observation tank to feed. Males were trapped for varying lengths of time within a central, neutral compartment as they moved between the nest compartment at one end of the tank and the feeding compartment at the other. Their choice of either compartment following such trapping was recorded as indicative of their dominant motivation state. Males tended to be nest dominant in these observations, but motivational dominance could be altered. Males deprived of food for longer periods of time, or presented with an empty food cup during the observation were more likely to be food dominant. If they had not been previously deprived of food, or if a sexually mature conspecific had just been presented in the territory, males were more likely to be nest dominant. The length of time males were trapped in a neutral compartment while in transit between the nest and food also significantly influenced their subsequent behavior. Longer interruptions were more likely to result in a change in the direction in which the male was moving, but only when he was moving towards the subdominant activity. This effect supports the hypothesis of time sharing as the mechanism regulating motivation in these fish.  相似文献

Until recently, the settlement of the Americas seemed largely divorced from the out‐of‐Africa dispersal of anatomically modern humans, which began at least 50,000 years ago. Native Americans were thought to represent a small subset of the Eurasian population that migrated to the Western Hemisphere less than 15,000 years ago. Archeological discoveries since 2000 reveal, however, that Homo sapiens occupied the high‐latitude region between Northeast Asia and northwest North America (that is, Beringia) before 30,000 years ago and the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM). The settlement of Beringia now appears to have been part of modern human dispersal in northern Eurasia. A 2007 model, the Beringian Standstill Hypothesis, which is based on analysis of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) in living people, derives Native Americans from a population that occupied Beringia during the LGM. The model suggests a parallel between ancestral Native Americans and modern human populations that retreated to refugia in other parts of the world during the arid LGM. It is supported by evidence of comparatively mild climates and rich biota in south‐central Beringia at this time (30,000‐15,000 years ago). These and other developments suggest that the settlement of the Americas may be integrated with the global dispersal of modern humans.  相似文献
