Summary The effects of chlorpromazine (cpz) and tetracaine (tc) on the rapid axonal transport of neurosecretory material (NSM) in the hypothalamo-neurohypophysial system was investigated. Following subarachnoidal injection of these drugs, the incorporation of (35S) cysteine into proteins of the supraoptic nucleus was slightly depressed. The protein-bound radioactivity in the posterior pituitary was markedly lowered in experimental rats which indicates a partial blockage of the rapid axonal transport of NSM along the hypothalamoneurohypophysial tract. Both cpz and tc induced an increase in the number of mitochondria and profiles of granular endoplasmic reticulum. The axons in the infundibulum and neurohypophysis were enlarged by dammed organelles, indicating a blockage of axonal transport. There was an increased number of microvesicles, often arranged in a crystalloid pattern, in the terminals. The number and distribution of neurotubuli and neurofilaments were not changed. A possible stimulatory effect of cpz on the release of NSM from the neural lobe is assumed Possible mechanisms for the action of mitotic inhibitors, transquilizers and local anesthetics are discussed.The present work was supported by grants from Svenska Livforsäkringsbolags Fond, H. Cactaceae family has heterogeneity in the accumulation of lignocellulose due to the diversity of shapes and anatomy of the wood. Most studies focus on fibrous and dimorphic species; but the non-fibrous species are poorly studied. The aims of this work were to analyze the syringyl/guaiacyl ratio of lignin and its distribution in secondary xylem, especially in non-fibrous species. The syringyl/guaiacyl (S/G) ratio was quantified from 34 species of cacti by nitrobenzene oxidation of free-extractive wood. The distribution of lignocellulose in wood sections stained with safranin O/fast green was determined with epifluorescence microscopy. The S/G ratio was heterogeneous; most of the non-fibrous species had a higher percentage of syringyl, while the fibrous ones accumulate guaiacyl. Fluorescence emission showed that vessel elements and wide-band tracheids had similar tonalities. It is hypothesized that the presence of a higher percentage of syringyl in most cacti is part of the defense mechanism against pathogens, which together with the succulence of the stem represent adaptations that contribute to survival in their hostile environments.  相似文献

Tetrastichus sp. (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) is a primary parasitoid of the Metisa plana (Lepidoptera: Psychidae), an oil palm bagworm. The sensilla on the surface of the antenna and ovipositor of Tetrastichus sp. were examined using a scanning electron microscope. The antennae of both male and female Tetrastichus sp. are geniculate in shape and hinged at the scape-pedicel joint. The female antenna is about 200 µm longer than the male antenna. However, the male antenna has an additional flagellomere compared to the female antenna. In total, eight different types of antennal sensilla were observed on the antenna of Tetrastichus sp.: trichoid sensilla type 1, 2, 3, 4, placoid sensilla type 1 and 2, basiconic sensilla, and campaniform sensilla. The antenna of the female Tetrastichus sp. lacks placoid sensilla type 2 and campaniform sensilla. The distribution and abundance of the antennal sensilla were compared between the male and female Tetrastichus sp. and discussed. On the ovipositor stylet of Tetrastichus sp., coeloconic sensilla, styloconic sensilla and campaniform sensilla were observed. Trichoid sensilla were observed at the medial part of the distal extremity of the ovipositor.  相似文献

The structure of the predicted amino acid sequence in the FX domain of Photosystem 1 was studied by molecular modeling and a working hypothesis was developed for the functional interaction of PsaC with the core heterodimer. We propose that the intervening sequences between homologous cysteines in the FX cluster form two flexible loops and participate in the binding of PsaC, and that the arginine residues in the two surface-exposed loops may promote the interaction between the P700–FX core and the subunit. The model was tested experimentally; chemical modification of arginine residues in the P700–FX core using phenylglyoxal prevented reconstitution of the core with PsaC and PsaD after insertion of FeS clusters in vitro. Treatment of the P700–FX core with trypsin also prevented reconstitution of terminal electron transfer to FAFB, although neither treatments affected the electron transfer to FX as judged by flash kinetic spectrophotometry. Electron transfer in the P700–FAFB complex was not impaired by either phenylglyoxal or trypsin treatment indicating that the small subunit(s) protect the arginine residues that become chemically modified or cleaved. The data are consistent with the working model and point to additional experiments designed to identify the specific residues involved in the interaction between the P700–FX core and PsaC.Abbreviations PG- phenylglyoxal - PS 1- Photosystem 1  相似文献

The light-induced proton efflux and active carbon uptake are inhibited by mercury and cadmium ions in Anabaena flos-aquae. The inhibitory effects of these heavy metal ions are reversed by 40 mM concentration of sodium. Here we report that light-induced proton efflux is sodium-dependent which leads to a characteristic enhancement in the rate of photosynthetic oxygen generation and carbon fixation. A low concentration (10 M) of 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea (DCMU) significantly inhibited the rate of oxygen generation while 10 M carbonyl cyanide-m-chlorophenylhydrazone (CCCP) completely blocked the oxygen generation activity in the organism. The chlorophyll-a fluorescence yield indicates that little fluorescence quenching occurred in the absence of sodium ion. Increasing the extracellular sodium ion accelerated both the initial rate and the extent of fluorescence quenching. These results support the assumption that metal-induced inhibition of the photosynthetic machinery may be mediated by the movement of protons.  相似文献

Summary The inner zone of the renal medulla of rats, gerbils, and rabbits was investigated to determine whether or not there are any characteristic ultrastructural differences between the interstitial cells of these species. The effects on the interstitial cells of water deprivation and water loading were also investigated.In all three species, the Type 1 interstitial cells, the lipid containing cells, were abundant and their distribution and topographical relations as well as their general ultrastructure were similar. The previously reported significantly higher frequency in desert rats could not be confirmed. Although the lipid droplets of the interstitial cells were smaller in gerbils and rabbits when compared to rats, their fine structure was similar. Their electron dense outer zone was sometimes associated with a granular material and/or a lamellar material with a periodicity of about 40 Å resembling phospholipid myelin figures.Water-loaded rats showed a considerable increase in the number of lipid droplets when compared to dehydrated or untreated animals. In contrast, the interstitial cells of waterloaded gerbils and rabbits were depleted of lipid droplets.We are indebted to Professor A.B. Maunsbach for valuable discussions and criticism and to Mrss.
