An essential pilot study was designed to quantify observer heterogeneity and to compare observation methods for the detectability of forest birds in stands of Eucalyptus and Pinus radiata forest as a basis for a major research project on habitat fragmentation near Tumut, southern New South Wales. Twelve experienced observers participated in the investigation. Point interval counts, zig-zag walks and strip transects were used to count birds in both eucalypt and pine forests. The 65 species of birds recorded in the study were assigned to one of nine groups classified by a set of attributes that characterized bird detection by field observers (e.g. body size, colour and calling patterns). Observer heterogeneity varied between groups of birds and was most apparent for small birds foraging in low shrubs (species such as the white-browed scrub wren, assigned to group 2), frequent calling, active birds (species such as the golden whistler, assigned to group 7), and midstorey, undercanopy foragers with distinctive behaviour (species such as the grey fantail assigned to group 4). For bird groups 2, 4 and 7, additional variability due to observer differences resulted in an average increase of ~ 40% in the width of a 95% confidence interval for the logarithm of bird abundance generated from a 20 minute count. Our analysis shows that taking the average of counts obtained by two or more observers would negate the increase in variance of counts due to observer heterogeneity. Few differences between methods of field observation were found. However, for frequent calling, active birds (group 7) there was evidence that more birds were heard using the point interval count method. Our study clearly demonstrated a need to either control for observer differences or to assign at least two observers to individual sites when designing bird surveys for comparative studies. Failure to do so will result in a decrease in precision of bird counts.  相似文献

Fourteen species of keratinophilic fungi belonging to ten genera (Chrysoporium, Malbranchea, Chaetomium,Sepedonium, Microascus, Scopulariopsis, Curvularia, Fusarium, Aspergillus, Penicillium) were isolated from feathers of about one hundred living poultry birds. The isolated fungi were compared for their keratinase activity after growing them on two different media: (1) basal salts solution containing natural keratin (human hair) as the only source of carbon and nitrogen; (2) the medium was supplemented with a minor amount of readily assimilable source of carbon along with natural keratin. All the test fungi could grow on keratinous material, degrading it and releasing sulphydryl containing compounds detected as cysteine, total proteins and extracellular keratinase. Maximum enzyme release by these fungi occurred in the broth supplemented with glucose and vitamins, thereby indicating a correlation between the mycelial biomass and production of proteolytic keratinases. Wild animal species living in anthropogenic areas are commonly carriers of antimicrobial‐resistant bacteria (AMRB), but their role in the epidemiology of these bacteria is unclear. Several studies on AMRB in wildlife have been cross‐sectional in design and sampled individual animals at only one point in time. To further understand the role of wildlife in maintaining and potentially transmitting these bacteria to humans and livestock, longitudinal studies are needed in which samples are collected from individual animals over multiple time periods. In Europe, free‐ranging yellow‐legged gulls (Larus michahellis) commonly live in industrialized areas, forage in landfills, and have been found to carry AMRB in their feces. Using bacterial metagenomics and antimicrobial resistance characterization, we investigated the spatial and temporal patterns of AMRB in a nesting colony of yellow‐legged gulls from an industrialized area in southern France. We collected 54 cloacal swabs from 31 yellow‐legged gull chicks in 20 nests on three dates in 2016. We found that AMRB in chicks increased over time and was not spatially structured within the gull colony. This study highlights the complex occurrence of AMRB in a free‐ranging wildlife species and contributes to our understanding of the public health risks and implications associated with ARMB‐carrying gulls living in anthropogenic areas.  相似文献

人工水源点是荒漠地区野生动物补充水分的途径之一,对于荒漠地区珍稀濒危物种保护具有重要意义。为揭示人工水源点的野生动物利用特征,本研究分析了2020年8月至2021年8月甘肃安南坝野骆驼国家级自然保护区一处人工水源点的视频监测数据。监测期间共获得533条视频记录,其中独立记录299条,分析表明:(1)多种野生动物利用人工水源点,共记录兽类7种,鸟类7种;(2)保护区的主要保护对象野骆驼(Camelus ferus)共有205条记录,占独立总记录数67%。野骆驼在人工水源点的平均群体大小为6.82±7.01,平均停留时长为(15.66±15.35) min,在人工水源点停留时长与群体大小有显著的相关性(P <0.001),而群体大小则受季节性影响(P <0.005);(3)野骆驼对人工水源点的利用夏季强度最高,春季最低,利用人工水源点的日活动节律呈明显的单峰型,活动的最高峰出现在12:00。研究表明人工水源点能够被野骆驼等野生动物充分利用,研究结果可为进一步揭示野骆驼行为生态习性以及促进人工措施对野生动物保育管理提供有益参考。  相似文献

Ground‐nesting farmland birds such as the grey partridge (Perdix perdix) have been rapidly declining due to a combination of habitat loss, food shortage, and predation. Predator activity is the least understood factor, especially its modulation by landscape composition and complexity. An important question is whether agri‐environment schemes such as flower strips are potentially useful for reducing predation risk, for example, from red fox (Vulpes vulpes). We employed 120 camera traps for two summers in an agricultural landscape in Central Germany to record predator activity (i.e., the number of predator captures) as a proxy for predation risk and used generalized linear mixed models (GLMMs) to investigate how the surrounding landscape affects predator activity in different vegetation types (flower strips, hedges, field margins, winter cereal, and rapeseed fields). Additionally, we used 48 cameras to study the distribution of predator captures within flower strips. Vegetation type was the most important factor determining the number of predator captures and capture rates in flower strips were lower than in hedges or field margins. Red fox capture rates were the highest of all predators in every vegetation type, confirming their importance as a predator for ground‐nesting birds. The number of fox captures increased with woodland area and decreased with structural richness and distance to settlements. In flower strips, capture rates in the center were approximately 9 times lower than at the edge. We conclude that the optimal landscape for ground‐nesting farmland birds seems to be open farmland with broad extensive vegetation elements and a high structural richness. Broad flower blocks provide valuable, comparatively safe nesting habitats, and the predation risk can further be minimized by placing them away from woods and settlements. Our results suggest that adequate landscape management may reduce predation pressure.  相似文献

通过对重庆国家重点保护野生植物的分布与水热关系的研究,确定了这些植物种分布的水热幅度,并利用温暖指数(WI)、寒冷指数(CI)和湿润指数(HI)对这些植物种进行聚合分类,结果可将这些植物种分为5个水热分布类群:Ⅰ.高温湿润型,Ⅱ.高中温湿润型,Ⅲ.中温湿润型,Ⅳ.低中温湿润型和Ⅴ.低温湿润型。另外,研究还表明了重庆地区的水热条件较好,适合这些重点保护野生植物的生长发育,因此,水热条件的现状不是濒危植物种濒危的主要原因,而人为破坏是其濒危的相当重要的因素。  相似文献

为研究雷州半岛湖栖鳍虾虎鱼(Gobiopterus lacustris)遗传多样性,对湖栖鳍虾虎鱼雌雄性腺进行转录组测序,采用MISA软件进行微卫星分析,共获得25 452个微卫星标记,其中包含14 708个单碱基重复类型,6 175个2碱基重复类型,3、4、5和6碱基重复类型数目分别为4 223、327、15和4。随机选取50个微卫星位点设计引物,能够扩增出清晰稳定条带的有39对,其中,11个位点表现出不同程度的多态,28个位点呈现单态。利用11个具有多态性的微卫星位点分析湖栖鳍虾虎鱼在廉江市高桥镇红树林保护区、湛江东海岛、雷州市附城镇和雷州市九龙山红树林国家湿地公园4个野生群体中的遗传多样性及遗传结构,11个微卫星位点呈现出不同程度的多态性,等位基因数(Na)2~15,平均等位基因为(6?3.9)个,有效等位基因数(Ne)、平均观测杂合度(Ho)和期望杂合度(He)分别在1.919~2.485、0.343~0.465和0.381~0.483之间,平均多态信息含量(PIC)为0.348~0.465。Hardy-Weinber平衡分析显示,4个群体的大部分位点未偏离平衡。在每个群体中进行连锁不平衡分析,有18对位点间显著(P 0.05)或者极显著(P 0.01)偏离连锁平衡。遗传分化系数在0.107~0.216之间,表明4个群体的遗传分化达到了中等水平以上。分子方差分析(AMOVA)显示,湖栖鳍虾虎鱼大部分的差异来自于群体内而非群体间。  相似文献

探讨海岛植物功能性状的演变机制,对福州市平潭岛和福州国家森林公园的野生植物功能性状进行了比较。结果表明,平潭岛和公园植物的共有科占总科数的63%,共有种占总种数的19%。海岛植物为适应强风、干旱、贫瘠的环境,以草本植物为主,占65.75%。海岛植物的叶级明显小于大陆植物,叶被毛植物占62.39%,并呈木质化和肉质化特征。海岛植物的繁殖能力提高,海岛植物花期长于大陆,以r-繁殖策略为主。海岛植物的传播能力提高,颖果和瘦果比例高于大陆植物,而核果和浆果比例相反;微型果为79.20%,以风力和蚁类传播为主。总体而言,大陆性海岛与大陆野生植物具有相同起源,海岛植物为适应脆弱的生态环境,其适应-繁殖-传播相关的功能性状发生演变,呈现出适应能力增强、繁殖和传播能力提高的特点。  相似文献
