In regions with a mediterranean climate such as southern California, P. citrophthora infection of citrus does not normally occur during the summer. However, in this study, P. citrophthora was isolated abundantly from alternative hosts planted in an infested citrus grove, in the middle of the summer. Citrus root infection from P. citrophthora did occur in this study but it was extremely low. Citrus seedlings grown in autoclaved soil from Pauma Valley, artificially infested with P. citrophthora, contained significantly higher levels of infection than seedlings grown in infested, non-autoclaved, soil or in part autoclaved, part non-autoclaved, infested soil. This suggests that the Pauma Valley soil contains microorganisms naturally suppressive to P. citrophthora.The low occurrence of P. citrophthora infection of citrus roots during the summer may be partially due to soil microorganisms associated with the citrus host and not the inability of P. citrophthora to grow well at the soil temperatures found during the summer in southern California.  相似文献

Aim To investigate the impact of climatic oscillations and recognized biogeographic barriers on the evolutionary history of the garden skink (Lampropholis guichenoti), a common and widespread vertebrate in south‐eastern Australia. Location South‐eastern Australia. Methods Sequence data were obtained from the ND4 mitochondrial gene for 123 individuals from 64 populations across the entire distribution of the garden skink. A range of phylogenetic (maximum likelihood, Bayesian) and phylogeographic analyses (genetic diversity, Tajima’s D, ΦST, mismatch distribution) were conducted to examine the evolutionary history and diversification of the garden skink. Results A deep phylogeographic break (c. 14%), estimated to have occurred in the mid–late Miocene, was found between ‘northern’ and ‘southern’ populations across the Hunter Valley in northern New South Wales. Divergences among the geographically structured clades within the ‘northern’ (five clades) and ‘southern’ (seven clades) lineages occurred during the Pliocene, with the location of the major breaks corresponding to the recognized biogeographic barriers in south‐eastern Australia. Main conclusions Climatic fluctuations and the presence of several elevational and habitat barriers in south‐eastern Australia appear to be responsible for the diversification of the garden skink over the last 10 Myr. Further molecular and morphological work will be required to determine whether the two genetic lineages represent distinct species.  相似文献

Background: Snow and ice melt provide sensitive indicators of climate change and serve as the primary source of stream flow in alpine basins.

Aims: We synthesise the results of hydrological and hydrochemical studies during the period 1995–2014, building on a long history of earlier work focused on snow and water on Niwot Ridge and the adjacent Green Lakes Valley (GLV), which is part of the Niwot Ridge Long Term Ecological Research site (NWT LTER).

Methods: These studies are discussed in the context of how snow, snowmelt and runoff reflect changing local climate. We review recent results of snow, snowmelt, hydrology and hydrochemistry from the plot to the basin scale, utilising new tools such as continuous global positioning system (GPS) measurements of snow depth, along with remotely-sensed measurements of snow-covered area and melt, combined with long-term measurements of snow properties, discharge and solute and isotopic content of water.

Results and Conclusions: Surface–groundwater interactions are important components of water quantity and quality in alpine basins. Some or most snowmelt infiltrates underlying soils and bedrock, transporting soil and bedrock products to surface waters. Infiltrating snowmelt, along with increased melt of stored ice, increases the hydrologic connectivity between the terrestrial and aquatic systems. Alpine basins are being impacted by increases in atmospheric nitrogen deposition, which has caused changes in soil microbial processes such as nitrification. Nitrate, dissolved organic carbon and dissolved organic nitrogen are thus flushed from soils and talus to streams. Our long-term results show that alpine catchments, such as Green Lake 4 at NWT LTER+, have the greatest sensitivity and least resilience to climate warming, with any warming leading to increased water yields.  相似文献

怒江干热河谷杧果种质资源的表型和AFLP遗传多样性分析   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
利用表型和AFLP标记,对怒江干热河谷57份杧果种质进行遗传多样性分析。表型性状分析结果表明:8个表型性状在不同的种质间表现出较大的差异,变异系数变化范围为16.98%~61.50%,多样性指数(H’)平均为3.975,其中单果重变异较大。AFLP分析结果显示:57份种质共产生1098条带,其中多态性条带为1032条,多态性比率为94.0%,相似系数在0.55~0.82之间。AFLP聚类分析结果及主成分分析结果均表明种质间具有复杂的遗传关系,且怒江干热河谷杧果种质的亲缘关系与地理分布没有明显的相关性。表型性状聚类和AFLP分子标记聚类分析的结果相对一致,均能较准确地将优势类群聚在一起,且表明57份杧果种质具有较丰富的遗传多样性。  相似文献

四川黄龙沟森林和钙化滩流地两种生境中分布着大量的少花鹤顶兰,而且生长在这两种生境中的少花鹤顶兰有性繁殖成功存在着差异,目前尚不清楚这种差异是否是由生境差异所致,及其影响有性繁殖成功的机制。通过对黄龙沟少花鹤顶兰两种生境主要环境因子的调查和两种生境中的花部特征和传粉情况的测量,结果表明森林生境中林木盖度、土壤厚度、土壤含水量、土壤有机质、土壤全氮以及空气相对湿度比钙化滩流地中的高,而灌木盖度、草本盖度、苔藓盖度、空气温度、相对光照强度、土壤温度、全钙以及pH则是钙化滩流地中更高。而两种生境中少花鹤顶兰的形态特征和有性繁殖成功之间也存在明显的差异。在森林生境中的个体与钙化滩流地中的个体相比,最大叶长和最大叶宽更大,花朵数更多,距长也更长,单花和花序寿命更长。但花粉移走率和结实率却是钙化滩流地中的更高。两种生境中温度和光照的差异可能是导致两种生境中少花鹤顶兰花粉移走率和结实率差异的重要原因。  相似文献

The Acheulean to Middle Palaeolithic transition is one of the most important technological changes that occurs over the course of human evolution. Here we examine stone artefact assemblages from Patpara and two other excavated sites in the Middle Son Valley, India, which show a mosaic of attributes associated with Acheulean and Middle Palaeolithic industries. The bifaces from these sites are very refined and generally small, but also highly variable in size. A strong relationship between flake scar density and biface size indicates extensive differential resharpening. There are relatively low proportions of bifaces at these sites, with more emphasis on small flake tools struck from recurrent Levallois cores. The eventual demise of large bifaces may be attributed to the curation of small prepared cores from which sharper, or more task-specific flakes were struck. Levallois technology appears to have arisen out of adapting aspects of handaxe knapping, including shaping of surfaces, the utilization of two inter-dependent surfaces, and the striking of invasive thinning flakes. The generativity, hierarchical organization of action, and recursion evident in recurrent Levallois technology may be attributed to improvements in working memory.  相似文献

Abstract

Mohua (Mohoua oehrocephala) breeding and mortality were studied in the Eglinton Valley, Fiordland National Park, New Zealand. Mohua on the valley floor (380 m a.s.l.) bred from early October until March, though birds at higher altitude in the Eglinton and elsewhere started later. In low altitude areas, most pairs raised two broods a year, but elsewhere they seemed to raise only one. Eggs were laid daily, and incubation began with the laying of the last egg and lasted about 20 days. The nestling period was about 23 days. Clutches contained 1–5 eggs, most often three. During three breeding seasons there was no significant nest predation by introduced mammals, but in 1990/91, when stoat (Muslela erminea) numbers were high, 67% of nests and 50% of nesting females were destroyed by stoats. When stoat numbers were low, the productivity and mortality of double‐brooded mohua were well within the ranges recorded for other forest‐dwelling bird species, and the productivity of single‐brooded mohua was lower than that of most other forest‐dwelling passerines. During years when stoat numbers were high, the productivity and mortality of even the double‐brooded mohua were lower than for most other forest‐dwelling passerines. There is some evidence that there were density dependent mechanisms influencing the productivity and survival of chicks.  相似文献

New species Nummulites vetustufabianiin. sp. is described from the El Hamra Formation, Gara El Hamra section Bahariya Oasis Western Desert. The biometrical measurements include maximum and minimum diameter of the successive radii and heights of whorls, length/height ratio, number of chambers and the marginal cord thickness of each whorl for the megalospheric generation as well as the diameter of proloculus were elaborated to differentiate between some allied granulated species such as Nummulites depressus, Nummulites decrouezae, Nummulites cuvillieri and N. vetustufabianiin. sp.Nummulites fabianii group has lateral distribution for the entire Tethys basin, hence such biometrical studies are needed to emphasise the polyphyletic nature of the group.  相似文献
