A study of 1 year was performed on nine elite endurance-trained athletes (swimmers) and on eight elite strength-trained athletes (weightlifters) in order to examine the effects of training on the endocrine responses and on physical performance capacity. The measurements for the determination of serum hormone concentrations were performed at about 4-month intervals during the course of the year. The primary findings demonstrated that during the first and most intensive training period of the year in preparing for the primary competitions similar but statistically insignificant changes were observed in the concentrations of serum testosterone, free testosterone and cortisol in both the endurance-trained and strength-trained groups. After that period the changes in hormonal response over the year were infrequent and minor. A significant (p less than 0.01) decrease occurred in the strength-trained group in serum-free testosterone during the second period, which was characterized by the highest overall amount of training. Over the entire year the concentrations of serum hormones remained statistically unaltered in both groups. Slight but statistically insignificant increases of 1.2% +/- 0.8% and 2.1% +/- 5.1% were observed in the competitive performances over the year in the endurance-trained and strength-trained groups, respectively. The present findings in the two groups of elite athletes, who differed greatly with regard to the type of physiological loading, demonstrated that the overall hormonal responses both during the most intensive and during prolonged training periods were rather similar and the infrequent small changes remained well within the normal physiological range.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS) 相似文献

Six healthy women (21.8 +/- 0.4 y) did isometric strength training of the left plantarflexors at an ankle joint angle of 90 degrees. Training sessions, done 3 times per week for 6 weeks, consisted of 2 sets of ten 5 s maximal voluntary contractions. Prior to and following the training, and in random order, voluntary and evoked isometric contraction strength was measured at the training angle and at additional angles: 5 degrees, 10 degrees, 15 degrees, and 20 degrees intervals in the plantarflexion and dorsiflexion directions. Evoked contraction strength was measured as the peak torque of maximal twitch contractions of triceps surae. Training increased voluntary strength at the training angle and the two adjacent angles only (p less than 0.05). Time to peak twitch torque was not affected by training. Twitch half relaxation time increased after training (p = 0.013), but the increase was not specific to the training angle. There was a small (1.1%, p less than 0.05) increase in calf circumference after training. Evoked twitch torque did not increase significantly at any joint angle. It was therefore concluded that a neural mechanism is responsible for the specificity of joint angle observed in isometric training. 相似文献

The roles of different forebrain structures in stages of memory formation were investigated by injecting agents into either the left medial hyperstriatum ventrale (MHV) or right lateral neostriatum (LNS) close to the time of one-trial taste-avoidance training. Withl-glutamate injected into either the left MHV or right LNS 5 minutes pretraining, retention was good 1 minute posttraining but significantly impaired at 5 minutes and each subsequent time point. With emetine injected into either area, retention was still good 60 minutes posttraining but significantly impaired at 90 minutes. With ouabain, retention declined more slowly following injection into the right LNS (at 45 minutes) compared to injection in the left MHV (at 30 minutes). A second experiment confirmed the regional difference in amnesia development produced by ouabain. These results indicate that the duration of short-term memory is longer following inhibition of intermediate-term memory (ITM) in the right LNS, compared to inhibition of ITM in the left MHV.Special Issue dedicated to Prof. Holger Hydén. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine the effects of chronic low frequency stimulation on the lactate transport across the plasma membrane of the tibialis anterior (TA) muscle of the rat. Stimulating electrodes were implanted on either side of the peroneal nerve in one hindlimb. Chronic stimulation (10 Hz, 50 psec bursts, 24 h/day) commenced 7 days after surgery, and were continued for 7 days. Animals were then left for 24 h, and thereafter muscles were obtained. Cytochrome C-oxidase activity was increased 1.9-fold in the stimulated TA compared to the control TA (p < 0.05). Lactate transport (zero-trans) was measured in giant sarcolemmal vesicles obtained from the chronically stimulated TA and the control TA. At each of the concentrations used in these studies a significant increase in lactate transport was observed: 2.8-fold increase at 1 mM lactate p < 0.05); 2-fold increases at both 30 mM and 50 mM lactate p < 0.05). Positive reinforcement training holds great potential for enhancing the management of species for reproduction. This paper reviews a wide range of animal training activities and resultant benefits which could have application to captive reproduction programs. Recognized benefits fall into several categories. Basic animal care can be improved through voluntary cooperation by the animals with veterinary procedures and routine husbandry activities. The quality and quantity of physiological data collected for research can be improved through voluntary cooperation by the animal subjects with sample collection. Positive social interaction and reproductive behavior can be increased and aggressive behavior reduced through employment of a specialized training regime called cooperative feeding. Good success has been reported with special training programs to facilitate introduction of new members into primate social groups, while mixed results have been obtained in efforts to use training to enhance maternal skills. Finally, a discussion of both direct and indirect enhancement of psychological well-being through the use of positive reinforcement training is presented. While positive reinforcement training techniques will not be useful in every situation, information developed to date strongly suggests that these techniques should be given serious consideration when developing comprehensive programs for the management of species for reproduction. © 1994 Wiley-Liss, Inc. 相似文献

The aim of the study was to investigate whether a regular moderate endurance exercise programme influenced the in vitro cytokine synthesis by stimulated whole blood cultures. To this end, eight healthy subjects exercised moderately by running for 3-5 h a week over a period of 12 weeks, whilst seven other healthy subjects served as the control group. The intensity of the exercise was determined by lactic acid concentrations in the blood which were maintained between 1.8 and 2.5 mmol x l(-1). Over the period of training the running velocity producing the 4 mmol x l(-1) lactic acid threshold increased from 2.86 (SD 0.83) m x s(-1) to 3.06+/-0.79 m x s(-1) (P < or = 0.008). Blood samples were taken at rest before and after the training programme. The following blood parameters were determined: leucocyte count, differential leucocyte count, lymphocyte subpopulations [CD14 positive (+)/CD45+, CD4+/ CD25+, CD8+, CD16+/CD122+]. Whole blood cultures were stimulated with lipopolysaccarides [interleukin (IL)-1 beta and IL-6] and staphylococcal enterotoxin B [IL-2, soluble interleukin 2 receptor (sIL2-R) and interferon (IFN)-gamma]. Cytokine concentrations in the supernatants were measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The white blood cell count, differential leucocyte count, lymphocyte subset distribution and the expression of the CD25 and CD122 antigen on lymphocytes were unchanged by training. After the training programme the IL-1 beta production changed significantly [1496 (SD 264) pg ml(-1) before, compared to 2127 (SD 672) pg ml(-1) after training, P < or = 0.008]. In the control group these parameters remained unchanged. With respect to changes in the values in both groups the syntheses of IL-1 beta (P < or = 0.023) and IL-6 (P < or = 0.021) were significantly higher after regular training. The syntheses of IL-2, sIL-2 and INF-gamma were not significantly influenced. Regular endurance exercise influenced the in vitro production of monocyte derived cytokines, while the effect of exercise on the cytokines synthesized by T-cells appeared to be of lesser importance. 相似文献
