Physical activity is known to benefit health while muscle activation and movements performed during occupational work in contrast may result in work-related musculoskeletal disorders. Therefore, we posed the research question: which mode of muscle activation may result in a reversal of work-related disorders? To address this, we performed electromyographic (EMG) and kinematic assessments of workers with diverse exposure categories: sedentary monotonous work, prolonged walking/standing, and physically heavy work. The various job-specific exposure variables could be categorized in terms of duration, intensity, repetition, static component, peak force etc. that were subsequently identified as risk factors. Based on sports science principles we developed tailored exercise programs to counteract job exposure. EMG activity during exercise training was monitored to identify principal differences between exercise training and job patterns. Evidence from more than 20 RCT studies including >4000 workers showed positive effects such as decreased muscle pain and increased workability. Finally, we identified plausible underlying mechanisms in muscle tissue – human and animal - that confirmed metabolic, morphological, and hormonal changes with e.g. repetitive work that were reversal to adaptations reported with exercise training. Progress has been made in developing intelligent physical exercise training, IPET, as the best complementary activity to job exposure and includes muscle activations and movements that limit work-related inactivity atrophy as well as overload injury.  相似文献

The avian magnetic compass was analyzed in bird species of three different orders - Passeriforms, Columbiforms and Galliforms - and in three different behavioral contexts, namely migratory orientation, homing and directional conditioning. The respective findings indicate similar functional properties: it is an inclination compass that works only within a functional window around the ambient magnetic field intensity, it tends to be lateralized in favor of the right eye, and it is wavelength-dependent, requiring light from the short-wavelength range of the spectrum. The underlying physical mechanisms have been identified as radical pair processes, spin-chemical reactions in specialized photopigments. The iron-based receptors in the upper beak do not seem to be involved. The existence of the same type of magnetic compass in only very distantly related bird species suggests that it may have been present already in the common ancestors of all modern birds, where it evolved as an all-purpose compass mechanism for orientation within the home range.  相似文献

PurposeTo provide a guideline curriculum related to Artificial Intelligence (AI), for the education and training of European Medical Physicists (MPs).Materials and methodsThe proposed curriculum consists of two levels: Basic (introducing MPs to the pillars of knowledge, development and applications of AI, in the context of medical imaging and radiation therapy) and Advanced. Both are common to the subspecialties (diagnostic and interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, and radiation oncology). The learning outcomes of the training are presented as knowledge, skills and competences (KSC approach).ResultsFor the Basic section, KSCs were stratified in four subsections: (1) Medical imaging analysis and AI Basics; (2) Implementation of AI applications in clinical practice; (3) Big data and enterprise imaging, and (4) Quality, Regulatory and Ethical Issues of AI processes. For the Advanced section instead, a common block was proposed to be further elaborated by each subspecialty core curriculum. The learning outcomes were also translated into a syllabus of a more traditional format, including practical applications.ConclusionsThis AI curriculum is the first attempt to create a guideline expanding the current educational framework for Medical Physicists in Europe. It should be considered as a document to top the sub-specialties’ curriculums and adapted by national training and regulatory bodies. The proposed educational program can be implemented via the European School of Medical Physics Expert (ESMPE) course modules and – to some extent – also by the national competent EFOMP organizations, to reach widely the medical physicist community in Europe.  相似文献

This study compared the physiological response to novel situations in sex-separated and sex-mixed groups of horses, as measured by heart rate (HR). The study evaluated the possibility of training horses in a mixed-sex system. The study included 41 Purebred Arabian 2½-year-olds during their first walk on an automated horse walker. Four groups, divided by manner of care and training, consisted of 10 colts and 10 fillies kept in separate stables and trained in separate male or female groups and 12 colts and 9 fillies kept in the same stable and trained together. The study measured HR when horses were at rest before exercise, while moving from stable to walker, during 30 min of exercise on walker, while moving from walker to stable, and at rest after exercise. Mean HR scores recorded from training on the walker were higher in sex-mixed groups. Results obtained while horses were moving from stable to walker, then from walker to stable, were significantly higher in the sex-mixed groups. The study did not recommend training young horses in sex-mixed groups.  相似文献

Blood chemistry and immune cell parameters were examined in firefighters in a 1-week program of “live fire” training exercises. Blood samples were obtained at the beginning (AM) and end (PM) of each of the last 4 days of training. Analyses revealed significant time (AM-to-PM) effects for of the blood chemistry and immune variables along with significant leukocytosis over the 4 days of training. Despite the significant changes, these data suggest that serial days of supervised firefighting training do not appear to cause dangerous changes in blood chemistry or immunosuppression.  相似文献

The present study investigated the effects of a 6‐week swimming training on blood pressure, nitric oxide (NO) levels and oxidative stress parameters such as protein and lipid oxidation, antioxidant enzyme activity and endogenous non‐enzymatic antioxidant content in kidney and circulating fluids, as well as on serum biochemical parameters (cholesterol, triglycerides, urea and creatinine) from Nω‐nitro‐L‐arginine methyl ester hydrochloride (L‐NAME)‐induced hypertension treated rats. Animals were divided into four groups (n = 10): Control, Exercise, L‐NAME and Exercise L‐NAME. Results showed that exercise prevented a decrease in NO levels in hypertensive rats (P < 0·05). An increase in protein and lipid oxidation observed in the L‐NAME‐treated group was reverted by physical training in serum from the Exercise L‐NAME group (P < 0·05). A decrease in the catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities in the L‐NAME group was observed when compared with normotensive groups (P < 0·05). In kidney, exercise significantly augmented the CAT and SOD activities in the Exercise L‐NAME group when compared with the L‐NAME group (P < 0·05). There was a decrease in the non‐protein thiols (NPSH) levels in the L‐NAME‐treated group when compared with the normotensive groups (P < 0·05). In the Exercise L‐NAME group, there was an increase in NPSH levels when compared with the L‐NAME group (P < 0·05). The elevation in serum cholesterol, triglycerides, urea and creatinine levels observed in the L‐NAME group were reverted to levels close to normal by exercise in the Exercise L‐NAME group (P < 0·05). Exercise training had hypotensive effect, reducing blood pressure in the Exercise L‐NAME group (P < 0·05). These findings suggest that physical training could have a protector effect against oxidative damage and renal injury caused by hypertension. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Objective: To investigate the association between the Trp64Arg polymorphism of the β3‐adrenergic receptor gene and changes in body composition in response to endurance training. Research Methods and Procedures: Adult sedentary white and black subjects participating in the HERITAGE Family Study were measured before and after 20 weeks on endurance training for the body mass index, fat mass, percentage of body fat, fat‐free mass, sum of eight skinfolds, and subcutaneous, visceral, and total abdominal fat areas. The association between the Trp64Arg polymorphism and the response phenotypes, computed as the difference between pre‐ and post‐training values, was tested by analysis of covariance separately in men and women. The gene by race interaction term was also tested. Results: No race differences were observed for allelic and genotype frequencies. Training resulted in significant reduction of body fat in both men and women. No association of the Trp64Arg polymorphism was observed with training‐induced changes for any of the body composition phenotypes in both men and women. Discussion: These results suggest that the Trp64Arg polymorphism of the β3‐adrenergic receptor gene is not related to changes in body composition in response to exercise training.  相似文献

Animals exist in dynamic environments that may affect both their own fitness and that of their offspring. Maternal effects might allow mothers to prepare their offspring for the environment in which they will be born via several mechanisms, not all of which are well understood. Resource scarcity and forced resource allocation are two scenarios that could affect maternal investment by altering the amount and type of resources available for investment in offspring, albeit in potentially different ways. We tested the hypothesis that maternal dietary restriction and sprint training have different consequences for the offspring phenotype in an oviparous lizard (Anolis carolinensis). To do this, we collected and reared eggs from adult diet-manipulated females (low-diet [LD] or high-diet [HD]) and sprint-trained females (sprint trained [ST] or untrained [UT]) and measured both egg characteristics and hatchling morphology. ST and LD mothers laid both the fewest and heaviest eggs, and ST, UT, and LD eggs also had significantly longer incubation periods than the HD group. Hatchlings from the diet experiment (LD and HD offspring) were the heaviest overall. Furthermore, both body mass of the mother at oviposition and change in maternal body mass over the course of the experiment had significant and sometimes different effects on egg and offspring phenotypes, highlighting the importance of maternal energetic state to the allocation of maternal resources.  相似文献

The effects of 12 weeks of a low-intensity general conditioning programme on maximal instantaneous peak power (Wpeak) and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) were examined in 20 elderly women. After medical, familiarisation, and ethical procedures, the subjects were randomly divided into either a training and or a control group. The training group [n = 11; mean (SD) age 63.0 (3.1) years] agreed to take part in a 12-week training programme at an exercise intensity kept under 60% of the heart rate reserve for about 60 min, 3 times a week. The control group [n = 9; mean (SD) age 63.5 (3.3) years] did not perform any particular physical training. Before and after the training period, all participants underwent anthropometric measures and a maximal cycling test to exhaustion to measure their VO2max. In addition, Wpeak was determined 1 week later by the subjects performing a vertical jump from a squatting position on a force platform. Following training, neither the anthropometric characteristics nor the VO2max changed in either of the groups. In contrast, Wpeak increased significantly (P < 0.001) in the training group, but did not change in the control group. This result could be interpreted as the result of an improved level of neuromuscular activation. Furthermore, it shows that although muscle power declines with age at a faster rate than does aerobic power, its sensitivity to training seems to be higher than that of the aerobic system.  相似文献
