We evaluated the mineralization rates of humic substances in Infernão oxbow lake (State of São Paulo, Brazil). Experiments were conducted under aerobic and anaerobic conditions using fulvic acid and humic acid from four sources: Scirpus cubensis and Cabomba piauhyensis leachate submitted to a 120-day degradation process, sediment, and dissolved organic matter from the lake water. A fixed amount of substrate was added to 450 ml of water from Infernão lake, filtered over glass wool. After adding substrate, the flasks were incubated at 21.0°C under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. The dissolved organic carbon was monitored during 95 days. The results were fitted to first-order kinetics model, which pointed to one labile and one refractory fraction. The refractory fractions predominated, ranging from 71.4 to 84.3% for fulvic acid and from 73.4 to 85.0% for humic acid. Mineralization rates of the labile fractions of dissolved organic carbon were higher under aerobic than anaerobic conditions, while the converse was true for the refractory fractions.  相似文献

We evaluated the nitrogen and phosphorus concentration of floating meadows of Eichhornia azurea and Scirpus cubensis in Lagoa do Infernao (State of Sao Paulo, Brazil). The chemical composition of these plants and of the water (littoral and limnetic zones) was determined during the period March 1987 to march 1988. During high water, the water becomes enriched by soluble nutrients and particulates washed from the flooded areas adjacent to the lake, especially from areas situated between the river and Lagoa do Infernão. The soluble allochthonous material is rapidly assimilated and stocked in the plant tissues, which results in an increase in its concentration. Besides this, it was established that the aquatic macrophytes studied utilize the nutrients dissolved in the water of the floating meadow itself, these nutrients being derived principally from their own decomposition.Since these are floating stands, the sediment does not function as a direct source of nutrients, and since concentrations in the water are low, the nutrients excreted by the aquatic macrophytes during growth and liberated during decomposition do not remain available in the water, but are rapidly absorbed by the young plants.This closed nutrient system makes possible the maintenance of the high biomass of the stands during the entire hydrological cycle.  相似文献

Variation in water level in Lagoa do Mato, an oxbow lake of the Rio Mogi-Guaçu, fertilized the water column with phosphorus, nitrogen and silicates during periods when the waters of the Rio Mogi-Guaçu overflowed to the lake. An increase in electrical conductivity and a reduction in transparency was also observed. After fertilization, the nutrients declined rapidly, remaining low until the next floods. Principal component analysis revealed three distinct periods relative to the concentration of nutrients,i.e. a fertilization period, an assimilation period, and a period of stocking in biomass. These results are discussed in relation to other oxbow lakes, in an attempt to identify ecological factors responsible for the fertilization of these ecosystems.  相似文献

A method recently proposed by Coesel that uses the desmid flora to assess the conservation value of aquatic habitats was applied to an alkaline and hypertrophic oxbow of the Upper Tisza river (NE Hungary). According to the macrophyte community the oxbow contains two distinct habitats, both of which provide suitable conditions for the development of a rich desmid flora. High temporal and spatial differences in the algal flora were observed in periphyton and plankton samples taken in June and August 2004. The sample of Utricularia vulgaris periphyton collected in August was characterised by the most species-rich desmid flora. The conservation value of this sample was the maximum according to Coesel’s method. The latter also proved to be useful for the assessment of the conservation value of plankton net samples taken from among the macrophytes. The use of modified rarity value calculations as recently proposed by Fehér did not significantly affect the conservation value, but different enumeration methods to quantify the floristic diversity did result in different conservation values. We found that Coesel’s desmid based method is a useful tool for assessing the conservation value of the studied oxbow. Based our results the Coesel method’s applicability and usefulness depended on (i) the sampling location (open water or macrophytic region) samples were taken from open water or from macrophytic region; and (ii) species enumeration procedures (up to 400 specimens counted, or whole droplets counted).
